MGF respray

Hello chaps. Autoshite sounds just like my kind of forum. I have an MGF (12 years), a Lotus Elan (12 years), a Benelli two stroke motorcycle (39 years old), and an Alfa Romeo Brera (amazing car). I love them all and they are of course vastly superior to all that common, perfect German VAG shite. I have just parted with £1k to have my 'F' resprayed. As it has had around 15kg of Waxoyl applied to it over the past decade there was little corrosion. Tell me I am nuts. Err it's a Cougar supercharged 'F' bodykit, minus the supercharger.

Great selection there!  I applaud anyone who invests* money in older cars, you'll love it here!

Just noticed you're in Maidstone- a couple of us here now, AlexG and his lovely old Renault 5 is a local too :)

I do think the original MGF design is ageing so well.

Rover made some really nice stuff in the 1990s.

I still resent the way the government were happy to see it go down the pan but quick to bail out the banks

I'm with you on the government thing but not how the rover looks.

Anyway hello oliver, when do you give test drives* of the elan? :-)

Welcome :-) a respray is not the usual autoshite way, which usually consists of rollering non drip gloss in fading light in the street while the wind picks up before a brief snowstorm, prep being wiping most of the bird shit off.

I hoped this would be some sort of inspiration to sort the rust blebs and spray my F, but there's no way I'm spending a grand so it'll get done in a damped-down lockup, one side at a time, with eBay rattle cans.

That Bodykit does look good though. Any other changes?

Lovely array of vehicles you have there. The painter looks to have done a good job of the respray.

Hi Pillock. It's got Safety Devices 'proper' roll hoops.

The best thing you can do with the MGF is transplant a VTEC B16 from a Civic/CRX, I think they're great cars blighted by the unreliable engine.

Posted

Actually, the best thing you can do is shove some more pictures of that Benelli up, please!

K16 is a superb unit if fettled properly. And mine has been. I wouldn't swap it for a Honda!

I like your lotus. I hope we have another Autoshite South East meet up at that cafe in Wrotham so you can bring it and I can gawp at it for real and not just internetly. Not many people know that those ones are actually* wider than they are long.

The body kit makes your mg look exactly* like an xpower SV so fair play for wearing it.

Anyway welcome on here you've got great taste in shite.

Welcome along. I like Rovers and stuff, I also like your MG. Had a brief drive of one some years ago but would like a proper go at some point.

Well LS, if you is round this neck of the woods ever.....

Welcome to the amusing insanity of AS. You seem suitably qualified to enter.

I haz MGF too and it is brilliant fun.

Love the Isuzu Gemini Spyder M100... I have fond* memories of occasionally borrowing a friend's S2, amazing handling but build quality was diabolical and bits seemed to break and/or fall off every few miles !

I remember a bloke I worked with buying an Elan SE on a J plate in 1998. He paid 12 grand for it which was our annual salary at the time! Mental. What are they like to drive and own?

 Tell me I am nuts.

You're not nuts and neither are we - it's everybody else.  Those cashews, though - they are nuts, or used to be.

Welcome aboard.
