Can anyone recommend a good insurance company to get this fine thing insured with? Any tips and a rough idea of cost maybe? I thought it might qualify for "classic" car insurance but not sure anymore.......or do I just ask go and ask any insurance company?

Insurance.......who would have thought it ha ha

H plate isn't it? Should be a piece of cake for classic insurance. I still recommend Peter James and not just because their yam yam accents remind me of my childhood.

I'm not going to criticise for the grille because frankly, there's too much win going on. I would say keep the old grille to hand though. I doubt it's too much of a ballache to change. Maybe go 50/50 old and new. In fact, you could park one side in a hedge again for that pre-resto look. Sorted!

I've looked around, either Dacia doesn't exist in their databases or they don't inside pickups.....hmmmmm can't say I've spent too long looking around yet so I'm sure IT will be ok.

I insured my Jimp with Footman James (kit car), weirdly Performance Direct would only quote the Dacia Duster as places don't seem to like pick ups!

I got the Umm insured on my standard multi car policy with Peter James, it wasn't on their database, but they were fine about adding it.

This is the best before and after of all time. Cyanide Steve has one mother of a gauntlet to overcome with that FSO!

I'm gonna have to actually speak with them on the phone from Monday onwards, most of them are not recognising the number plate and if I select dacia as a manufacturer there is no way they will let me select 1994 as year of manufacture, only goes up to 1991 and most don't have Shifter as a model, only Duster :((((

You will need to speak to them, and ask for agreed valuation as well - they may ask to see pics of work done.

well... if you will go buying the last one of a thing ;)

It is true. Classic insurance via websites is basically SHITE, which means having to phone them up and repeat the same sodding information time and again.

If, while speaking to them, they ask you "I can't see Shifter, is it like a Duster?" You can say "Yeah, it's a bit like that." You'll be sending them pics etc for a valuation anyway, so there's no hiding it from them.

It's actually quite a stylish looking thing, but you can see how it would've looked outdated by the 1990s.

Either way 8) 8) 8)

Excellent news! Have to say I've had nothing but excellent service from them too.

RH don't know how lucky they are to have such an exotic car on their books :))))

And the rear lights, well they've proven one of the most difficult tasks during this whole restoration process (up until now) and they must be the very last brand new set in existence and the price reflected that but we've come so far, only about a month or so before I get to see it again......it's a new car, better than when it left the factory as far as I'm concerned, can't wait to see it and can't wait to bring it back :)))

Brilliant stuff!

Btw the Renault 12 TN was, I believe, the Automatic version. Back than they gave the auto a completely different model designation. Probably saved a third of a franc of making a dedicated "automatique" badge or something

The seller of those lights must be over the moon. Who else were they going to sell them to! They say there is a buyer for everything and you've just proved it. Really looking forward to seeing this in the flesh.

All, the R12 was manual, 4 speed box. I sat in it but didn't take any pics I'm afraid.

I can't afford it so might as well let you all know, the elderly lady that owns it is looking to sell.......she want WAIT FOR IT!!!!!!!

Offer OVER £5000 for it, as she's had a number of people wanting to buy it off her. Not being funny, I'd love to own it and it would go well next to my Shifterossa but £5000 is way way WAY more than I would expect to pay. Am I being completely unrealistic here or is the price astronomically high? Opinions please?!

Squire, if you want a 12 Estate, I've a couple, spare.

Both are way better than your pickup was, and could be legal relatively simply.

Sadly, When I finally get to them , my first priority will be to finish the 12 van..
