As some of you might know, I bought this Baur cabriolet off the bay after dithering and loosing out on Scooters one.

Anyway, for convoluted reasons I haven't retrieved it from Kent yet. As It's not been on the road for a decade (and it's nowhere near Pillocks house :) ), I'm getting it delivered.

So, Anyone used Shiply recently? is it still any good? or are there other sites that have bested it?

Thanks in advance. I appreciate the input of fellow shitters

I got some quotes off them to move an SD1 250 miles a few months ago, the quotes vary massivly, one guy will quote £600 then another £350. The feedback is a good idea but im sure most on there are OK.

There is a chap on this forum that PM'd me a very reasonable quote to move Phils blue SD1 back to Essex from Devon last month, hopefully he reads this and gets in touch with you.

I got quotes to ship the Escort over from CZ. Best was £650.

Scruff is the forum bloke who does car shifting. Drop him a pm.

He got BV's somewhat crusty Lancia from Oxon to Lincs for me at a good price.

Highly recommended A+++ shiter transportation.

Cyanide_Steve of FSO Cars (UK) Ltd. is in/near that Kentish area, and does a bit of tat shifting. Try finding his profile and pm him, or pm me and I'll pass on his email and mobile number.

Google the shiply transpoter username and most of the time they use the same name on ebay. Contact them directly to negotiate a lower price without added BS fees.

Yep just checked my PMs and it was Scruff, the quote was very good and I doubt anyone on Shipley would of met it let alone beat it.

Shiply themselves are fuggin shitehawks, by all means get some quotes off their site but DO NOT give them any money!!

Why not Mr B; do you have a story to tell?

I bought my T5 off the blue a month or two ago and then was suddenly unable to go and get it. Shiply came up trumps, although I would have investigated the possibility of asking Scruff if I'd known.

I tried to get a shell shifted from Belfast to North Yorks earlier this year via Shiply and didn't get one single quote. Bastards.

It was quite the opposite with me.  Loads of quotes (which was good), but then loads of demands asking if I'm wasting their time.  I only wanted a bloody quote.

BMW landed all safe and sound. Shiply guy seemed a decent bloke.

Very pleased with the car, seems a nice clean straight example. Just the small matter of MOT'ing it now.

Things have been happening with the Baur Cabriolet, so have an update (sorry no new phots - I smashed my camera when folding the seats in our modern. Grrr).

So the Baur now has an MOT.

As it's been off the road for a decade, lots of other little jobs also need attending to.

The battery would have made a great doorstop - not so great at being a battery. New one now fitted.

The rear spoiler was insecure - it's fixings having disintegrated, so replacement from ebay ticked off.

I got my local tame Garagist to put a new cambelt and waterpump on - so far so good, but the engine is running like a bag of sh1t. When cold, it starts and runs at about 1200 rpm. As it warms up,  this turns into a hunt between 1000 and 1800 rpm. The vacuum hoses were perished so I've replaced them - to no effect. Any idea's fellas?

I think I know the car did you buy it from the Hawkhurst / Cranbrook area of Kent as there can't be many about in the same colour.

If it is the one it must be quite low mileage as it was owned ( or driven at least ) by an old girl very sedately around the local area and it always caught my eye (well I only have one lol) when it was out and about, which wasn't very often.

Idle feels rough and diesely?

Smooths out under load, possibly slightly down on power?

Likely to be an air leak around the inlet manifold or the adjuster flap in there (playing card sized piece of plastic on a pivot) becoming loose on its mountings.

Tayne,

Thanks for the tip, as you say idle rough, smooth's out under power and there is a sound that sounds like an air leak from a manifold gasket.

I shall investigate further.

Throttle position sensor. Presuming its not a switchable auto, its a 3 pin plug on the bottom of the throttle body which should have continuity between 2 pins with throttle closed. Clean out throttle body and check, sensor is mounted on slots so can be adjusted so it clicks as soon as the throttle opens.

Vince,

Could be, it came from a village in the Tonbridge area (My knowledge of Kent not good enough to know if that is close).

I Never met the lady who had it for the last 27 years but talking to her on the phone, I would guess her to be 'of a certain age'.

It looks like it could be the one as Cranbrook is only about 10/12 miles away from Tonbridge.

It's a real nice old car as it always looked so original and the body looked really solid but it's a long time since I saw it on the road and the old girl who would pootle around in it looked like she was in her late 60s early 70s back then.

It's was one of those cars that really stands out that you just knew it had been looked after and never abused and the kind of car that you just wanted to put a note under the wiper to ask for first dibs if it came up for sale.

It wasn't really the Baur bit that really made the car stand out back then as such but the condition.

It's great to see a fellow shiter with the car now and hope you get the running issues sorted out. :)
