Diesel shite that is vegetarian

Across the threads there are mention of  denzel vehicles that can or are drinking the veg oil instead.I am tempted to get one but don't know what does or does not like it. ( Hope you say shitroen xantias like it!).

Would it be possible to have a list in one place of what does run on veg oil?

If this thread is already elsewhere then Mr.Moderator can delete!

I think maybe the veg oil price thread should become an open discussion for not just the latest cost, but for debate about what cars will/won't run on it and any tips or questions etc.

1.9 xud engined frog shit with a bosch pump love veg. My 2.5td XM loves it too!

1.9XUD indeed, although mine coughed this morning but seems fine now. Xantia 1.9 (with the XUD) will run it fine!

Good idea Billy, it should save having loads of threads on the same subject as I'm sure this question has been asked many times before

This is possibly a bit ott, but what about an actual wiki for the site?

In the meantime, http://www.biomotors.co.uk/CarsVans.html lists those which can use veg with little modification ('1-TANK'), those which need to be started and stopped on diesel ('2-TANK') and those which are regarded as unsuitable.

For the OP,. Xantias which aren't labelled HDi are suitable for use on veg, those with a Bosch pump can be started from cold on it. The other pumps (Lucas or similar) don't like thicker fuel so cold starts can be disastrous. Having to rig up a second tank is a pain, costs money for the changeover valves, makes the fuel lines a bit complicated and insurance companies get very twitchy,

Running any diesel on veg is asking for trouble unless you're certain the cylinder compressions are within tolerance, the injectors are all spraying correctly, the engine reaches full operating temperature quickly and it starts reasonably promptly from cold. The moment some of the fuel isn't fully combusted there is the possibility the rings will start to gum up, reducing compression and creating a viscious circle. It has been noted that the cheap GM Soya oil tends to clog injectors causing poor spray patterns and so unburnt fuel. There are cases of Mercs with the most suitable engines being damaged in a fairly short time when run on veg.

http://www.biopowered.co.uk/wiki/Vegetable_oil_as_fuel is a useful read.

http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/mybbforum/showthread.php?tid=7229 describes real-world testing of Soya oil use and the effect on injector nozzles

Buy my Maverick (if I ever get the bloody thing back from the garage) as that will run on veg

Ideally want a Xantia as I usued to love mine when I had it! At the mo the merc is doing 14mpg around town so I need something radically cheaper to run!

Anything low-tech (not common rail) is usually OK, french stuff seems most popular, the above mentioned XUD's for instance.

2004 FIAT Scudo 1867cc diesel any good on it? Thanks in advance, muthaflippas.

Probably not a vegetarian. Sounds like it will probably be a common rail lump

Originally nothing direct injection was thought safe, before the VAG 90&110hp engines proved themselves as prices fell and it was worth the risk of an experiment.

The same has now happened with the PDs, http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/mybbforum/showthread.php?tid=43988 although there are plenty who know their onions with common railers running on veg.

I had an AAZ powered Golf years ago (~1995/6 TD, not a TDi). It was utterly shit in every single respect. I would rather pay for 14mpg on fucking liquid gold than have another..... but it ran on ~80-90% veg from cold.

That PD thread is super interesting...

I love the smell of Veg in the morning..

Front-area 2.8. The only Isuzu diesel they fitted, despite what the mouthbreathers claim.

Belt drive ohv direct injection. Will run on a leg and a wing for years.

Not that I'm biased...

Di's do gum rings on veg it just takes time, I fully expect the others referenced here will do it too. When they get to this age there won't be many people running them on veg for 40k and stripping them to see how they are internally.

I have a 96 citroen motorhome with the old 2.5 diesel, which has also had a turbo conversion. Can i lob a little cooking oil in it ?

I don't know a bout the XM but the XUD with a bosch pump the answer is yes. If it dops cold don't be greedy and drop petrol in the tank before the temp drops

Photo of the injection pump would be helpful. If that's the 2.5 12 valve engine they could be fitted with Bosch and Lucas injection pumps.

The knobvan has a Bosch pump but I've still never bothered trying to run it on veg.

I noticed next to the fuel filter there's also something cable tied to it which I don't remember being on the other 305, it has fuel lines and coolant hoses attached to it, is this a standard item or something used to heat the fuel when running veg? 2e011586f726b59bafb995753a43f4b4.jpg
