C1am Posted July 3, 2014 Author Posted July 3, 2014 Out of desperation I actually contacted a dealer for an exciting online live chat about an MG6. Dealer: "Hello, I'm Barry Nutjob, how can I help?" Me: "You mention the car has FSH. When and where were the services done?" Dealer: ....silence......more silence......2 minutes later, still nothing Me: hang up. It seems even the dealers aren't trying too hard. Maybe they're trying to tell me something?
C1am Posted July 3, 2014 Author Posted July 3, 2014 Newer Autoshite.... Does not compute...I'm clutching at straws....
C1am Posted July 3, 2014 Author Posted July 3, 2014 My company has a similar policy but fortunately they don't enforce it.Surely if you buy a 6.5 year old car you will be right back to square one in six months time when you are again not compliant with policy?Policy is nothing older than 10 years so I'm looking at around 6 years old as I'd want to run it for a while. Saying that I just found a late Elantra online. Modern AS does exist! Anyone know anything about the 2 litre diesels in these?
Mr_Bo11ox Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 I'd have a petrol MG6 but I wouldnt pay much for it. I bet on the rare occasion a used one changes hands its for like £4k or something.

Justin Case Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 I know that you said that you don't like autos, but - less than three years old - low mileage - less than a new Dacia http://www.mjcmotors.net/vehicle-details/Oldbury-West%20Midlands-used-CHEVROLET-Cruze-5-door-Pewter-Grey--Grey--Automatic-Petrol-id=1217223 I've no idea how reliable or depressing they are, but they must surely be the future of Autoshite
Lord Sterling Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Personally, I'd actually go and check out an MG6 at some MG outlet somewhere rather than rely on what some review says as it's basically someone elses opinion. For what its worth, I have driven the MG6 and the saloon version Magnette and they were both nice and competent cars. But that's a personal opinion. Cavcraft 1
burraston2006 Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Has anyone mentioned the Mazda 6 yet? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2010-60-Reg-Mazda-6-2-2-D-TS2-/191217898243?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item2c85799303#ht_1416wt_1292 Various flavours of bodies and engines should keep most people happy. Not heard a bad thing about them ( admittedly they are so boring nobody has said anything about them!). urpert 1
messerschmitt owner Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 why not tell the AS massive what you want out of a car and we'll choose a piece of shite for you! What's the budget (should always be less than the possible return on mileage from work)Cash or creditDo you need 4 doorsHatchbacksizepetrol or dieselshite or just shit?
Asimo Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Mazda 6? Exploding tyre pressure widgets. Diesel engines get very expensive at about 4 years, nasty rust rumours..... (child #2 has an 09 one, his from new, just about to be binned) How about a Chevy Epica in manual gasoline form? Six cylinder too! Shit now, shite later.

Shit now, shite later. As its a company car the repair bills would not be a problem- so why worry! ( unless you own the company!),
Sloth in a bowl Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I knocked a search into autotrader on 7k, under 50000 miles, under 5 years old, diesel (assuming you do many miles) Lots of choice ,but I would personally be sniffing round a skoda fabia 1.6 TDI totally boring competent and efficent. A few examples on a 60 plate and newer to look at.
Justin Case Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Petrol Mazda 6s don't have any of the troubles that the diesel ones have, but try finding one under 7 years old
Hertz Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Our co car scheme is pretty strict. It does pay £400 a month before tax and 26p a mile which is tempting me though. Authorised Vehicles The following vehicles are NOT permitted: • Vans (unless agreed on the basis of job need) • Minibuses • Motorbikes • Convertibles • Cars with less than 4 adult size seats • Cars which are more than 6 years’ old or with mileage in excess of 120,000 miles • Cars with CO2 emissions of more than 140kg • All vehicles must be fuelled by diesel, petrol or be a hybrid engine • All vehicles must have Bluetooth connectivity fitted as standard and be fitted with Sat-Nav where available • Any modifications or additions to a vehicle must be approved by the Fleet Director and Line Manager with the exception of temporary bike or roof racks. • All vehicle choices will be subject to Line Manager and final Fleet Director approval. Is it just age restriction on your co car policy C1am?
Micrashed Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 • All vehicles must be fuelled by diesel, petrol or be a hybrid engine So that rules one of these out then Luckythirteen and Justin Case 2

AnthonyG Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Mazda 6 MPS? these had a 2.5 pez engine if I remember. Watch for the tax which must be in the £450 a year bracket. Not sure when they stopped making them, early 2008 I reckon. Citroen C6 would be amusing but I have no idea of real world reliability. A Renault Laguna 3 Coupe (yes they did make them) would make them all stop and stare, these might be available at this price now. Jaguar X type estate? saw an 09 plate one today so within the age limit. If you can put up with knowalls telling you its a Mondeo every 5 minutes they are great value.
richardmorris Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 A C6 has no real world reliability - my citroen garage told me to save them stress and me money by chucking my £20 notes straight down their drain. On a slight topic tangent, when I visited the citroen conservatoire at Aulnay in Paris a few years ago we were told that new employees have 6months to buy a PSA product or look for another job. Actually, thinking about this for another second or so. Do you need to drive for your work? If not why the limitation?More often than not I cycle to work, my merc. is the newest which is coming up to 20years old. Luckily though this isn't something I need to worry about as I am an owner of the business and we have no intention of ever getting company cars. Do they place a limit on the age of bikes too?
Ghosty Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 There's a reason the French ambassador has a C5! Looked on Auto Trader and £7k will get you a Laguna dci coupé on a 10 plate with about 50k on it.
richardmorris Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 The problem with the C6 was that the technology was old when it came out - I saw the original Lignage concept at Earl's court but it was 6years before the car was for sale. The main issue is that the dealers are hopeless - who can afford £100 a month just to plug it in to Lexia to find out why it's sulking? Ball joints seem to be a yearly service item and to get 10,000miles out of a set of tyres good going.
Justin Case Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Jaguar X type estate? saw an 09 plate one today so within the age limit. Pub bore/Dickheads will tell you its a Mondeo, if you put up with that they are great value. To which you can confidently reply that we share 85% of our DNA with a haddock, and in their case probably more Luckythirteen and Asimo 2

My last company car was an X-type diesel. I loved it - bit clattery round town but supremely refined on the motorway, with amazing economy and decent performance.
urpert Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 I believe this meets all criteria outlined. It still delights me that you can buy a new car in 2014 with a trim level that's only available in appliance white with black bumpers. I sort of want one. Cavcraft and oman5 2
urpert Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Someone on here will have a hybrid soon, me if I can find a good mk1 Honda Insight. The current model Insight would be worth a look for you if it wasn't CVT only.About time I came out and admitted I have a Voxal Ampera for complicated reasons (similar to the OP). The complete opposite of AS but technically rather interesting. I can however confirm that ALL VOXAL DEALERZ R SHIT. Asimo 1

I sort of want one. I wish the basic Sandero Access was available in wider range of colours. I wouldn't mind a navy blue one - with the optional stereo and proper spare wheel. New POD 1
C1am Posted July 10, 2014 Author Posted July 10, 2014 Coming closer to buying something. I'm reluctantly going down the dealer route at the moment as I can't find anything decent privately. I test drove a late Hyundai Elantra diesel a few days ago - actually great fun to drive but couldn't agree a price. I'm trying a petrol Mitsubishi Lancer on the weekend. Anyone had any experience of these? EssDeeWon 1
Pillock Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 I get a choice - run my own car and be paid £4200 (taxable) per year, or take a diesel astra. I tried the own car thing and failed to make a good balance between reliability and cost, 30,000 miles a year will cost a lot in servicing and stuff bearing in mind a failure to proceed is very much frowned upon. All the company handbook says is the vehicle must not be embarrassing (paraphrased). Makes no specific mention of age, just that it must project a good company image. I've been waiting for my Astra for three weeks now, been supplied with a series of hire cars. Forgot I'll get taxed as well as losing my allowance, oooops.
