Saab 900 T16 S

I'm trying to accumulate enough mojo to get my Saab back on the road, and I thought that making a thread for its progress might shame me into doing some actual work on it.

I have even acquired an LPG-equipped parts car from Mr Twosmoke - the Golden Niugget, which went to Shitefest, to donate parts. Being a more-door, automatic, 8-valve model it doesn't have an awful lot of parts that I need, but it has the LPG kit amongst other things.

Putting pictures up like that shouldn't be allowed. Makes me want to flog the triumph and get a 900

I have been looking at a 93 turbo floppytop this morning.Under that thinking you need to get this car back on the road.

Yes, great logic gentlemen. I definitely want to get it going again asap: I only allowed the MoT to expire because I was so busy moving house that I couldn't do the work it needed. But once it expired, and the car thus became unusable, which in my experience is fatal. The car goes to the back of the queue, you get used to using other cars instead, and it always takes ages to get it back on the road... hence the need for a mojo-boost.

The other day I noticed a bulb out in one of the rear light clusters, so I went to open the boot and... the catch was broken and the bloody thing wouldn't open. That's the sort of thing that I could probably fix (or at least bodge) in ten minutes, perhaps by removing the rear seat backreat and reaching through or something, but the effect was to kill my enthusiasm and I left it.

Other jobs involve fixing the drivers electric window, which doesn't go up or down, and figuring out why the cooling fan doesn't cut in when the engine gets hot. Hopefully it's just a temperature sender thingy, which could either be fixed or replaced with the Golden Nugget's one. Then a jolly good service and put it in for a ticket.

I also bought some proper old-style numberplates for it, so that I can dump the ones with the new font and the silly flag thing on.

I don't know how many Saab 900s owners inhabit this forum, but as the Golden Nugget is approaching the final phase of its eventful life, please let me know if you need bits.

I had one a couple of years ago, a 900LPT. It was GR112! :)

Quite a few still knocking about up here.

I think you need to feed your mojo the idea that you're missing a stylish, comfy, very quick car. Once you can visualise that, you can see it through.

Go on...what you waiting for? :-)

I have a saying that you can never do a decent length journey without seeing an old school 900.

It is surprising how true this adage is.

Use the T16 as a parts car for the Golden Nugget for the Autoshite win ;-)

Saab 900s are high on my list of itches to scratch, so looking forward to you getting your mojo back on this one.

You're bang on about things dropping to the back of the queue when the ticket runs out and something annoying breaks or sticks. This is exactly the story of my Golf, which I occasionally chisel away at but which really needs to come indoors and have a week's worth of love lavished on its brakes, suspension and a bunch of fluids and hoses. And new carpets.

I actually miss the nugget. It drove so much better than it's looks would have you believe

That's lovely. One of these will forever have a place in my currently-fantasy garage.

Glad to see the plan in action, Mr L!

Sold my last much missed 900 t16 to gadgetgricey in 2012 and wish I'd kept hold of it, even with its noisy gearbox.

Saab 900 Turbos are ace. The only thing about them that  is not ace is that I haven't got one.

Would love one of these, its a sensible use everyday kinda car but still carries a certain something that gets older car people nodding knowingly. Def on my to-buy list.

Had a lovely 900 about 15 years ago. It wasn't injected ( twin carbs) and was an auto, lovely old thing. Fuel consumption on the bloody thing would have shamed a super tanker!
