1992 (or something) Citroen BX ASB* TZD TD i NOT DMF

1.7 turbo diesel, manual.

MOT November

Taxed (August I think)

Had new spheres, cam belt, rear arm bearings and a clutch in the last 10k I do believe.

Goes like a good un, seems to be pretty damned ace on fuel too

Lucas pump so veg oil can FRO, soz.

There can't be many people on here who haven't owned this yet, so it's got AS provenance, or whatever the sort of biscuit arsed faux snob sellers of polished up 1980s Rovers say on their adverts.

It's not the prettiest example out there, paint varies between ok, dull, shit and 'cleaned with a brillo pad'

I think the heater is stuck on hot, though the variable degrees of POWER bit works ok. It's a common thing on these, the cable seizes up or something.

Here's your spectacularililililiy standard awful picture, clue: it's not the blue van.

£299 can drive it away. I (and previous owner) never got the V5 but you can have a receipt and all that sort of shit. It's in Chester, Cheshire, v. near motorways, railway station, bus terminus etc

I don't want a swap or anything really, I just need to sort a bill out pretty sharpish.

Do all rush at once, longer terms shiters can mail me about easy* payment options.

No V5?

NO CONGESTION CHARGE!!!

WHO NEEDSS TAXXXX!!!!???

Sorry to the last registered owner. Just sayin.

I feel sorry for this poor thing. Nobody loves it! It's not coming back though. Tempting as it is...

How did you manage to find such a big dog turd to park it next to?

;-)

No room at my inn for a bx. Much as I'd like a turbo dizzler.

I have a lucky bag and six penny chews. Will that buy it?

Glws.

Heater is an easy fix. There is a superb website which essentially tells you how to do just about anything to these cars including the important improve the fan mod.

Eh? I thought this had gone down South?

FWIW, this post-wobbler BX is an excellent car to drive, despite its patinated appearance. I door-handled it round my road of doom near PARENTS_WATAGONG and it was great, if a little bit floaty.

Er, isn't it a 1.9 TUD?

XUD ! TUD were the small 1.4/1.5 diesels fitted in 106s and the like.

Aye, XUD 1.7 turbo.

In light of the fact some jaunty new fangled sales techniques have been tried on here, I have the ULTIMATE deal clincher: Whoever buys this car will get a bespoke (to me) ONE OFF, genuine LIMITED TO ONE ONLY Toosavvy T-shirt. I'm not even joking either.

There's a lot of debate about whether the 1.9 XUD turbo was ever fitted to the BX. My opinion is that it never was. They initially had the 1769cc lump and probably kept it right until the end of BX production. Maybe.

Posted

It never was fitted, not from the factory anyhow. A converted one is such a laugh to drive, you'd probably never believe it until you'd tried it.

What's it like inside?

I assume it has the antediluvian gearbox and is replete with pedals?

Very tidy inside!

I smoked around in this for a week or so and can say that it does drive ace. MEGABARG.

Indeed. Mat_the_Cat's tweaked 1.9 turbo diesel (Xantia engine) is exceedingly brisk.

Sadly Junkman, the turbo diesel never came in auto form. A shame as I'd like one. They saved the auto box for the NA diesel.

I believe it's been tried but the poke of the turbos ruins the autoboxes, no kidding either. Pretty sure Doc Chevron tried one but it kept self destructing.

The best way to find out Mr Junkman is to get the train down and drive it back. The BX, not the train.

More comfy too. These were properly rap(b)id machines. The 1.7 was a tougher engine, better cooled too. Has it had new octopus?

Posted

I think it was supposed to have been replaced in the not too distant past, but hopefully Dollywobbler, Brookjm or Mini-Mad can confirm this. It's a very, very nice ride though and I've not seen any LHM pissing out.

I can only use one or two excuses not to buy this.
1) I have already owned it (But would happily do so again)
2) I have no room :(

Swap you for a Dutton Phaeton with no I.D and in a million bits ????? .... thought not !

Yeah, silly to call them 1.7s really, but they did.

First gear is just to pull away, you don't really notice it. Second gear, things start picking up then, you have to chuck it into third at full pelt and the MOTHERFLIPPER doesn't half start to go some.

Whoa, i saw this the other day and thought it was in Scotland for some reason. This looks roughly one million times better than the pez Bx I almost bought today and its got actual tax and shiz. Lemme find out how much it costs to get to Chez and I'll get back to you. I seriously need a Bx now and I reckon this might be the bastard for me

Shit. Can get a train for £35. Insurance a few quid cheaper that the petrol alternative. I have a busy day tomorrow but can I officially register my interest and drop you a line later in the week when I've made sure I can actually afford another car please? BX PARTY WOOO!

Citroen are strange, one of the few manufacturers at the time to offer diesel automatics (such a sensible combination), then ruin it by putting the auto on the slowest engine; the XUD turbo + auto would have been a great combo on the BX.  By the time they relented and stuck one on the Xantia the car was too heavy for it again.

I think the issue was ZF not having a gearbox strong enough to cope with the TD, but still fit in a BX. I know the Alfa 164 auto had the most horrendous steering lock of any car I've ever owned due to the size of the 'box. Presumably the 'box used in the XM didn't fit the BX.
