The cars queuing are heading for a market square. Some days animals were sold and one day a week, cars. The market was open to all sellers and buyers. This group of gentlemen* are dealers trying to purchase the better cars before they head into the market place.

Not sure how late they stopped it but in the 60's every Jaguar that came off the line was road tested at least once in local roads before dispatch.

Prototypes were also regularly tested on local roads - as here - a favourite route was taking cars around the Coventry bypass.
