An interesting thing here. That box in front of the rear wheel, there are probably 2, one on each side and these contained sand or similar for help in winter on slippery roads. If I remember correctly, these could be activated from the driver's seat, so if the wheels started to spin, the driver could easily get sand on the wheels and gain traction. This was probably very necessary on a 4x2 truck with 2 trailers.

Mark 1 Mini, with the distributor mounted on the front of the engine, without a cover. Driving through deep pater has never been so much fun........

Not a problem if you use a bit of Vaseline on the cap and connections.

I'm sure mine had a rubber cover for the distributor cap. Doing what the picture shows is really rolling the dice.

St John's Street, Perth

Same view recently - the usual scruffy 'pedestrianisation'....

Wonder how you get the Viva and the row of cars next to it out? Wait until the others have left.

Apart from a Volvo Amazon (?) not a foreign car in sight - and not a hatchback.

Compared to what was happening in Europe most of these old dinosaurs were on borrowed time once imports took off and people could buy the kind of cars they wanted rather than what they were given by out of touch British manufacturers. Photo is 1967 given the HB Vivas, new Minx, Escort and Cortina 2  shown.

Four VWs in that picture. Can't see an Amazon.

Not when there's a mark 1 Escort parked there it isn't.

My failing eyes - you are right! I think it's 67 probably then.

Possible Amazon possible Hillman Minx? Or even a Simca?
