Disabled  ex Welsh miners i think it was.

Len Lord head of Austin set it up to give the men who could no longer work down the mine something to do.

Always thought it a decent thing for the head of a firm to have done.

Mercedes Benz 540K Cabriolet

Note that it says BRITISH MERCEDES BENZ!

It will be as it is RHD. Unless it was in one of the outpost of the British empire*

That was taken at the start of the very first Club Triumph Round Britain Reliability Run in 1966. London to John O'Groats to Lands End and back to London in 48 hours. Leaves London on a Friday evening, then you have breakfast in John O'Groats on the Saturday morning and Lands End on Sunday morning before getting back for tea on Sunday evening.

The event still runs every two years barring the odd fuel crisis and pandemic.

The first run had only six cars but now regularly attracts over a hundred cars, all Triumphs of course (plus the odd Standard). I've done it five times since 1992, always with a 1300TC. I've not done it since 2016. Some people do every event but I don't feel the need to. Notwithstanding the fact the cars are all now 50 odd years old, so am I (my car is nine months younger than me) and it is quite a physically draining event.

Some pics from 2016. Sorry they are not black and white.

The start. Knebworth House.

And back at the finish.

The start and finish point was at Broadfields Garage for as long as it was a Triumph dealership. It then moved to a pub in Enfield but as the event grew to over a hundred cars something bigger was required, hence Knebworth.
