On a thing called internet. It is really good, apart from those who make crappy jokes.😉

The '50' at the end of the plate indicates the  Normandy coastal department of Manche - at that time it was still legal to literally paint, using a stencil, the registration plate straight onto a vehicle.

Is that a Brogward van on the left? I never knew the company produced commercial vehicles!

Yes it is, and they did make commercial vehicles. There were some of them in Norway and a truck was recently for sale here. I remember when I was a kid there were the remains of a Borgward truck in a closed sawmill we used to play in.

Longlife shop on the left! The almost mythical chain I worked for in the 80's? Tyre sign on the side suggests it is - any more info on that pic?

No idea. Maybe Newcastle or something.

Magee's Ales were from Bolton, so somewhere that way I'd guess.

^^^^ My first thought was 'local beer for local people', so it could be Bolton, or somewhere very near. Looking at the car's reg numbers doesn't help, the A30 or 35 (UXA26) is from that there London and the Angle box behind -           185 (then either O or D or C)ED is Liverpool (Warrington) - not a million miles away. Can't make any more out, Bolton would be BN.

I had a look for Magee's Bridge in Bolton, which I guess is a railway bridge - nuffink. And looking at the course of the railway lines in Bolton they all appear to go under bridges, not over...

But I did find some interesting B&W shots of Bolton...

Top sleuthing! Thanks, I'd had a quick snoop but not come up with anything yet. Looks like it's changed a bit in the last 50 odd years (but then, ain't we all!)

Moar info and this pic here: https://www.wiganworld.co.uk/album/photo.php?opt=5&id=25137&gallery=Wallgate&offset=80

I hadn't realised Longlife were in operation that early, it is quite surprising there's not more references online about them, or I need to look harder.

did you know that if you hit 88Mph in a Sinclair C5 much like a DMC12 you will also travel backwards in time :)

(as I am sure @Zelandeth is probably going to find out one of these days either via husky power or accidentally getting hooked onto the back of a speeding BMW/Audi )
