Yes, a bag is cheap for one of these that is a runner.  You see them at 8K and more, and the three door hard top with levva is the most desirable version, although the sixteen valvers go for more than the eights, and silver is not the most favoured colour.

This one is two bags and has the top off wibbly wobbly flexi round corners driving experience special bonus offer. The convertible 900 was famous for being as bendy as a snake, those zany Swedes having sawn the roof off and forgotten that this might have some effect on the rigidity of the car..

My first experience of one of these was in 1986 and I've wanted one ever since. Turbolagtatsic.

I test drove a three door 900T in 1989 at Saab City in London.  We hooned like fook up and down the A 102(M).  Gunmetal grey, black levva, walnut dash.  I wanted it big stylee, but my Sloaney girlfriend made me buy a BMW 325i along with all of the other stripey shirted wankers.   I have regretted that decision ever since.

With the turbo asleep the two litre fivepot was very meh, but then the turbo would come on and FOOOOOOOOOOOOOM, the world would go all blurry.   The slightly not so good as it should be steering and handling did not matter, as the wheels wouldn't be touching the ground anyway.

Love them .Miss mine .All of them

Thankfully I've a low mileage late 99, awaiting the 900 running gear., that I will get around too, 'one day'. Hopefully.

Last one I bought was in 2006 for £450. I've had five. All three door and gunmetal grey. Great, great cars. They don't handle too well but as a very practical point to point machine, as long as the to points were far apart from each other. They are surprisingly comfortable to sleep in with the back seats folded (sleeps two fat bastards at a pinch) and can take a couple of bales of hay in the back to deliver them, very quickly, to the then girlfriends horses.

A real latter day gentleman's express. Or the thinking mans Volvo.

If they're over the grand limit now for rough ones, I'll just be content with memories then!

Is that cheap? It's the rustiest year for them, so it's done well to last this long.

nah 1979 - '80  had a bit of a rust problem - experimental water based paint so very few survive.

I've had loads and the '86 and '87 models were fine.

Pretty decent handling for a big 70's front driver, i say big - kerb weight isn't much more than a Focus.

MEGAWANT a 900 Turbo Aero, dont see em about much but I thought they had started to make good money so never bothered looking anymore. There is only so much I will pay for an old car no matter how cool it is, but for a grand I would be in.

Use patented Autoshiter SKILLZ to haggle the dude down that extra fifty notes and Bob is at the very least going about with your mother's sister.

I don't think that's particularly cheap for a 'bitsa' in less than wonderful condition. Mine was far better and I couldn't get 4 figures for it when I sold it.

You may see the odd ones at £6-7k but they're either old 70s classics or the late T16S Aeros in absolutely mintola condition. Scruffy ones are a grand all day long.

They are not that pricey. Okay you get some chumps selling them for £££ but BrookJM sold his for under £500 a couple of years back, Skattrd could not shift his at a grand. Here is one that sold on ebay recently for £620:

Just because someone like Purplehelmet is selling one for £8k does not mean that anyone is going to buy one at that price.

I wouldn't pay 1050 for that - you can get them much cheaper, I was looking not long ago, and as said above, you can get them much less than a grand. The flat fronted ones are more sought after, and the 99 more so. There was a 99 Turbo on C&C for £1,350, and as you know the Pistonheads lot are now going mental for that as it was on Top Gear.

Like Volvos, Saabs are nearly impossible to sell quickly, nobody wants them.

Yeah, the lag only served to emphasise the boost. Luvly jubbly.

1987-89 was another rusty period for them, basically the first couple of years of the ugly facelift. I bet there are some horrors under the Tupperware.

I've decided I'm going to buy one for my next car...

You are going to buy a car for your car?  That's real car love!  Mine are lucky if I buy them a Magic Tree to conceal the smell of rotting carpet.

I want to relight this thread cos I have the right horn for a late 80s early 90s Saab 900, prices seem very varied from £800 to £2000 for a half decent runner.

I know zilch about them despite always loving the look of a 2 door Aero.

So please feel free to chat more of about these hot swedes.

I like them too, but SWMBO is far from convinced for some reason. So somebody else please buy one and let me have a go.

Up to 87 they were flat front and front handbrake. Normally 8v turbo so loads of lag but lots of smiles.1988 onwards rear handbrake and tend to be 16v. All can do unleaded.

Autos were 3 speed so not great on fuel.

Top of range was carlsson, a limited edition with bespoke body kit, red box apc and other touches.

Specs for later ones were 16 (120bhp 16v), Lpt (145bhp, no kit) T16 (175bhp turbo without bodykit and sports suspension) T16s (175/185 bhpwith goodies).

Aero was actually the low pressure turbo puts out 145bhp although people call T16s Aeros.

1988 had special edition jubilee. 8v with leather.

Rust can be issue.Drive tunnels normally, front jacking points, bonnet and rear boot.

Engines are fairly strong, gearbox can be made of cheese because of boosted power levels. Tuneable with fiddling with apc although can go further with FMIC.

Love them and plan on one being next car. I have had 10 from x reg 8v through to Carlsson. Best pick is 1989/90 T16s.

Serial 900 owner here too. Had a similarly broad range of them. I wasnt that keen on my convertible as it was surprisingly flexible, my faves were the 3 full pressure turbo 3 doors. Brilliant machines, though tough old things in general all 3 full fat turbos had been heavy on their transmissions and had some gearbox issue or other be in a rattle in 3rd or jumping out of 2nd on the over run or general bearing whine.

The 900 convertible was so famously bendy that you could see around corners in it.   Even worse was the GM Saab convertible, which was like a classic Yank sofa.  I rented one and drove it over Alpine passes.  It was shite!

That looks mint.

My first proper car was F100 NPL. I hearted that car

I bought this one last week,16 valve, non turbo, automatic,so it will drink too much fuel and it cost a lot more than a bag. Who cares,it has only done 15,000 miles!
