A local scrapyard is having a clear out of it's old stock which as sat there donkey years, so they clucked a load of old stock into two trailers and decided to hold a family "fun" day and autojumble this morning.

This Solora Minx was the first thing that greeted us upon arrival, It belongs to one of the scrappys drivers, it's a bit of a project for him, he also owns a Maestro and Maestro Van.

This poor old Orion was for sale as a whole, it was majorly knackered, the floor was totally missing and a family of rats had been living in it.

This Corolla GTi was nice, it's been of the road since 2006 and has done 160k but it was still pretty decent.

I Think the 405 was being used by the fire brigade to cut the roof off.

Is this a Sierra base grill?

100's of old lights, many of them still boxed brand new.

Loads of dash clocks, I found a few talking Montego/Maestro computers too.

Brand new boxed Renault 25 Mk1 Speedo, they only wanted pences for this but i had no need for it, I don't know if it was worth anything.

Anyone know what this radio fits?. I'm sure it's some japanese car like a Colt?

There was tons of proper old car stuff, stacks of brand new in boxes Datsun seatbelts, everything was dirt cheap too, all i bought was these grills for £15 to hang up in the garage, anyone know what the Vauxhall ones off, it's dated 1980?.

Would  have liked to have  been there....!   That Ford  grille looks more Transit to  me from that  angle, think the Vauxhall is Mk1 Astra.

Posted

Now you say it I think your right, I saw someone buy it very quickly, It was less than £10.

I am utterly jealous. I would've spent an absolute wad there on stuff I don't need. I really liked that Orion and have always wanted one just to live my 17-year-old self's dream, but I reckon one with no floor would be a little bit out of my league repairing-tat wise. I can't even be arsed to much with my Sterlings so what chance have I got with that?

Old_Man_Sterling had one of those Corollas for a while but nowt as fancy as a GTi. It was one of the first cars I drove.

The Vauxhall Grille is from a Mk1 Astra which I think Louise2CV has.

I'd have probably bought shit loads of stuff I have no need for.... Nice to see there's still the odd seam of chod parts waiting to be found though.

The Orion was hanging!, The floor was missing under the drivers foot well, as was the boot floor and both rear arches were missing and the bottom of the doors, The engine didn't look heathy either and it's done 136k. They wanted £350 for it but he did say £250 would take it.

What a great day out, fun for all the family!

Haha! Yeah we laughed about that too, There was a buger van down the other end of the field and that was it! I don't think the weather helped, must have been only 30-40 there all day.

Well, good on them for trying to find a way to introduce their old stuff to enthusiasts who might be in need of them. Loads of scrappys wanting to clear out stuff like that would just bin it all.

Great to see these old yard clearances happening instead of stuff just being sent to landfill.

I spy the MG Maestro binnacle.

Looks like Plod was there, what happened? Did someone want to oval the Solara and a few shitters got out of control.

Posted

There was one of these.

and one of these in the pile.

Honestly there was so much tat there but you needed to know what it fitted, They are having another one later in the year, apparently this isn't half of the stuff that they have in the yard!

All those lights, dashes etc remind me of when I worked in a rural yard in the mid1990s, that was how we stored stuff as well. Good on them for selling it all like this instead of just chucking it in a couple of dead vans and crushing it all.

P.S. was the fire engine for sale? If so how much did they want for it?

I don't know to be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if it was. I can ask for you.

That Japanese radio was from an early Honda Prelude, and is amazing.

Which scrappy was this, Trig?

Posted

No thanks, if I had the space for that it would have been filled by a piece of choice elderly yankshite by now!

Your right too, I knew i recognised it, funky little thing.  The garage is D.J Spall's in Dallinghoo near Woodbridge, In the yard entrance was a 1950's Hillman Minx, apparently there's olds of old cars still in the yard and we're trying to arrange a pass to take a look on day.

Posted

Trig... if they should happen to have an offside rear light for a facelift 205...  :)

Posted

Fabulous looking day out there, I saw the advert for it on Facebook. Good on them, they are clearly sympathetic towards old cars.

Posted

I spy a Princess rear light cluster and a CX one, and what looks like a Plaxton type coach light as fitted to 70s Bedfords.  What a little treasure trove, would have liked to have a rummage to see what useful* things I could have bought.

Posted

It would have been a Autoshiters dream day out! Loads of new boxed Chrysler parts too.

Posted

Those taillights are fantastic. What I really want is one from a Duple Laser or late Dominant.

I'll have to stay alert for a trip some time.

Posted

I could see that 2500PI grill on my garage wall

Snap! What's my plan for them. I didn't think £15 was too bad really for all those grills?.

Posted

You should have bought everything and then ebayed the lot.

Posted

I'm usually pretty good at ID-ing things like lights, but I just can't place this one with the slots on the side and it's annoying me.
Anyone?

So what's happening with all the old stock now trig? The Datsun seatbelts could be super handy for me.

Posted

They have boxes and boxes of brand new Datsun stamped belts, they are keeping them all in the trailer until next time they have a sale. They won't be a lot of money.
