I can't make this now which is a pisser, but I NEED to do something car related this weekend. Will probably just content myself with doing some Cavalier tinkering.

Not a bad day, it was pretty cold until the sun came out though!

Quite a social occasion, as soon as I parked up I bumped into an Autoshiter but I apologise as I don't remember who!  I think he said jetronic?  Can't find anyone of that name though.  Near the end I got spotted by AnthonyG and I think I saw Dollywobbler in the distance but couldn't be sure, having never actually seen you in real life.  Just to top it off, on the way down the M5 on the way home I got overtaken by a Renault 5 which turned out to contain panhard65.

Anyway, some pics.

Queuing to get in...

Mine looked even worse after this chap turned up.  This 1.6 Tourer had 100,000 less miles on it than mine and it didn't half show, very, very tidy and the owner take a lot of pride in it.

Although the awful condition of the paintwork on the 220 did attract a fair few smiles and photos, I think I was in the running for scruffiest car in show.  Definitely need to get busy with the paint when the weather improves.

Very seventies, very orange.

High speed citron Allegro shot.

The only Ital at the show?  I didn't spot another one.

This was gorgeous and looked absolutely immaculate.

800s were well represented, this was particularly nice.

This looked very tidy, anyone on here?

Perfectly ordinary 75, nothing to see here.

Ah, that explains the Q plate.

This was a proper 1988 timewarp.  Spotless, immaculate and 5,000 miles on the clock.  Got a lot of attention and, like the gleaming beige 216SE next to it, was for sale.

SMG413M - BL test mule pre-production car.  Has an interesting history.

A grey-bumper Rover like yours went by us earlier today and I exclaimed that I rather liked them, and that example was even scruffier than yours.  They're a super appealing car to me, maybe I should buy one.

I did utterly fail. I forgot who was going, and what they'd be in. Perhaps why I saw so few people. I was wearing a trilby.

As mentioned, it was a little windy atop the hill but a great day out.

Within a few minutes of turning up I spotted a car I recognised straight away -

And after a chat about windscreens and cut bumpers I went off for a wander -

I parked next to the Towns Hustler, made for interesting comment's when someone approached the driver and asked for '6 99's please'. Ha!

Jon's red 820 and Kate's police 827 are always show stars (especially as Kate is a traffic cop and really knows her stuff with regard to these cars). There's a member on the 800 forum with a double headed 827 similar to that 75.

Is that BolxS old rover? So glad its still about!

It is the ex-Bollox wagon. I utterly failed to spot it. I've probably got a photo of it.

I'm in a huff because none of my British shite was made in Longbridge (Solihull, Coventry and Cowley respectively).  Looks like a jolly outing though, ta for sharing the pics.

Posted

That doesn't matter. All related stuff is welcome, so you get MGs, Triumphs and Cowley-built Rovers.

Great photos, Ian.

Phil, I saw your Rover on my ramblings.

Think I'll have to get along to that one year.  The park that it's held in, is that the same park that we used to see on the news when they were having a strike vote?

Posted

Couldn't be arsed to go myself for obvious reasons, plus there was one twat there from the 800 forum who gets on my nerves. I would have just spoilt it for everyone and probably slapped him one tbh.

You do - parked next to the slightly crusty blue Allegro.  Assuming it was you I saw whilst roaming the fields I should have gone over and said something cryptic to identify myself as a fellow autoshiter.  Ditto SquireDawson although I didn't know which car was yours either!  I fail.

TRW, you were the chap I was talking to at the start then who had the rear bumper going spare?  I lost track a bit as I spoke to several people throughout the day.

There was a great diversity of cars there, everything from pre-war Austin 7s right up to brand new MG3s.  A few slightly odd characters dotted around but I think that's par for the course!

Good to meet you Phil-lip. I did keep an eye out for other shiters but didn't see anyone else. Was a good show though, more cars than last year. There was a blue Austin badged wedge (think it was on an N plate), it was definitely the shabbiest car of the day, with several visible rust holes at door corners and wing tops. The autoshite community 220 looked like a new car in comparison. Favourite car for me was the preproduction land crab, owner by the BMC engineer from the 1960s through to 2011!

I was genuinely surprised at the sheer number of cars there.  It was quite nice joining the convoy/queue to get in, gave the whole thing a sense of occasion only slightly marred by the really, really angry woman in a Focus who was yelling at people out of her car owing to some confusion with the routing of visitor's cars not bound for the field.

TRW, do you know what forum your friend was referring to?  I may well take him up on his offer of the rear bumper but I don't remember which site it was!

Posted

I have no idea who he is! He just wandered into the conversation, ah well its all part of the PoL fun.

The forum he was talking about was www.MG-Rover.org. I cant remember his username though, but I do remember he was from the S.West area.

I think I saw phil_lihp but bottled saying hello. Not really a fan of those awkward 'hello I'm an odd man from the internet' conversations.

It was my first time there so was genuinely impressed by the range and number of stuff there. Really loved some of the mint Metros that were there. Took loads of pictures too.

Oh sorry, how odd, I thought you were together!  There were a few occasions like that where random people just wandered up and started chatting away like they'd been talking to you 2 minutes ago, even if you were actually in the middle of speaking to someone else.  All part of the fun as you say though.

You should have come over Sandie, although that's the same reason I didn't go running over to someone I thought might have been Dollywobbler.  We'll have to start carrying red balloons at these things or something.
