Answers on a postcard please?

In the meantime, help me with this!

I agreed to sell a car for someone I know.

I'm regretting it already.

Get a load of this shonky old thing!

A month T&T. Can MOT for right money.

192k

No service history

Logbook misplaced. I do know it is a genuine car, bloke has had it for a while now.

4th alloy present, in boot.

aftermarket cd player.

Engine light on after an idle issue that was fixed, but not reset apparently.

Location - South East Essex.

Engine - 1.8 petrol

Ideas on what it is worth? Goes ok, doesn't seem to be any mega issues.

Be sensible to at least put

Location

Mot/tax etc

Price.

Bit pointless otherwise

You have our sympathy!

Give me a chance, Dave. I'm getting there!

Getting it mot'd will make it easier to sell but it's high miles, no history, ruff looking, odd wheels and potentially dubious ownership status, I'd say about £500 with the years ticket on a good day,300 on a bad one

Posted

I wouldnt even try to sell that without a years ticket, the EML off and a new cambelt. Except as a 'project' at bridge money that no-one can argue with.

Yep - get a mot'ed one for 400 odd easily with half the miles and later model, having said that, I have a mate who is after a runabout - I can ask him if he's interested? Would deffo need a ticket though.

Still incredibly popular cars. As it stands possibly £300-£350, tested and tarted up £500+.

Christ, a 14 year old Zafira with the engine management light on and a Heart FM sticker

Unparalleled misery.

I always try and avoid helping relatives buy/sell cars , as anything that goes wrong with the car or the deal ends up being your fault and lorded over you by them for years to come.

Totally agree with this, it's always a world of pain.   Wife mentioned selling our old estate to a friend of hers who had just had twins, I got shot of the car ASAP to prevent this happening.   I have got to the stage now where I refuse to even discuss cars with relatives as whatever you tell them won't agree with what their friend/random stranger/tinternet tells them, will require spending money (yes you do need to service it occasionally) and will just be ignored in any case.

Brother in law bought a W reg Diesel with 200K on the clock, 2 years back for £1000, because he needed 7 seats for a holiday and the rental of a 7 seater was £900.

He's improved the mechanical robustness, by spending the last 2 years replacing everything that was worn out, and he seems quite happy. That said : a petrol one ? Nah.

Reckon I'm just going to hand it back to him, tell him to sort it via WBAC or similar.

Unless anyone has £250 burning a hole in their pocket? :)

Think I'd just put it out of its misery.

I can't believe no-one has said "If I had £250 burning a hole in my pocket I would rather let it burn than buy a Zafira"

I would if it were nearer. How much is it with a full test on it?

The one I drove wasn't bad? It's kind of a bigger version of the mk4 astra which aren't that bad either, but unfortunately doesn't have a Ford or Volkswagen badge. Seems a bit pointless being petrol though unfortunately.

At least it isn't silver or green.

Shame we are skint as the missus made noises about these a while ago.

Do these not hail from the pedal test era to check that there are actual codes stored?

£350ish, presuming there is little to nothing needed.

Like Cavette says it's popular. I reckon it's a case of selling it to right audience, then it will shift quick enough. Do Mum's Net have a for sale section? :-P
