Has anyone been to a car auction before?

I've been to loads of auctions and I reckon if you've got half a brain you can spot the dross from the decent cars..

Given some of the utter crap I have come home with in the past, I take that as a personal insult!

The AS Midlands Massiv is due back at the auctions soon.  Part of the fun is guessing who will weaken first and bid on something!

Also, the hot dogs and burgers available from an auction snack bar are always awesome, and sometimes even contain meat.

I remember going once when I was very young. I sat on my hands as I was scared I'd make a wrong move and buy a car

I used to go to the BCA at Enfield quite a lot, sold a couple of cars there and vowed never to do so again, Mind you that Bluebird autobox was a bit shite. Sorry.

Bought a white Fiat Uno for a tenner and sold it for a stunning £50 profit a week later. I have bought stuff there for friends and have never had any problems.

Can someone explain why all cars are in the auctions for a reason, i.e implying they're shit?

If you don't like it, go to CAVCRAFT  who's got the cars out of the auction himself and pay them a few hundred quid more for the same vehicle, only this time with a warranty that's not worth the paper it's written on.

 There, I fixed it!

I worked full time in a car auction for a while as a yoof.

all sorts of shenanigry, and a good laugh. most of the cars were ok- more likely us drivers that were the problem. Leads off 5 pot volvos etc so we could buy them cheap.

at the age of 19 I bought a 4.0 Xj40 SOV for £450, epic once we worked out to leave a full fuel can in the boot.

My favourite memory was when a shitty bright red Bentley turbo R (on a  D reg) cam e in. I drove it through, then left the rostrum in a cloud of tyresmoke, v8 howling and gearbox whining:)

You'll be lucky, not only do my warranties not run out until you've got to the end of the road, they don't even start at all!

I've had some good deals at the Edinburgh car auction years ago on dealer trade in that were not considered popular or just slightly too old.

First one was a Nissan Sunny 1.6GLX Automatic, in immaculate condition, on a G plate (for my mother) in 1996 - the only problem was that the spare wheel was missing - but it was perfect in every way and it did not make reserve when I was the highest bidder, so I said I would pay the reserve price if I could test drive it - the dealer said no problem and the cash changed hands after a drive around the yard.

Second and final car was a 1999 Proton Persona 1.3 "10 Year Anniversay Edition" with only 32,000 miles on it and it was virtually as new. This was in 2005.

Got that for £550 and in some ways I wished I had kept it but sold it on for £1100 to a woman who had written off her Proton and been given far more that my asking price for it!
