Will my t reg polo run on veg oil/ bio diesel?

Hi all, I'm pretty new to this site and I'd like some advice please. I keep reading about some old diesels running on veg oil and wonder what determines this? Also, what's the difference in veg oil and bio diesel? My car is a t reg polo 1.9 turbo diesel and half price fuel sounds appealing but I'm worried about false economy, ie killing the pump or injectors? Any help greatly appreciated....

I'm pretty sure these are Bosch pump jobs so should be ok, assuming it's TDi not PDi. If you try it and it doesn't work then remember it's Daveaftersix who runs this place, not me.
