1985 Peugeot 305 S5 Estate For Sale - £200 \ 300 (Stockport)

£200 on standard wheels \ nuts (although you'll have to bring two 14"s) or £300 on the 106 Rallye wheels (x6) and nuts (x16).

Right. Time to admit I'm  not going to get around to getting this one back on the road. The 460 is leaking badly and suffering from staying outside, so it's time for the Pug to find a new home.

It has no MOT or tax - currently on SORN (in my name). It came off the road after the test went. Repeated problems with the Solex autochoke carburettor meant it got parked up and eventually moved indoors last year. It'll need to be trailered or A framed away.

The S5 was a limited edition model for '85 - which meant a 1.6 litre GT spec XU engine and a GR trim level, giving you plush seats, a rev counter and a BE1 5 speed gearbox.

It runs - badly because of the carburettor - but I have a reconditioned one in a box together with some NOS headlights in Peugeot packaging.

Body wise it'll need a front valance (there's one I'm watching on French eBay) and plating to the ends of both outer sills. The wobbly OSR arch will need attention too. Doors are mostly OK along with the wings and rear tailgate, although it leaks at the rear seal.

I have the horizontal roof bars too along with an early 205 GTI steering wheel (the centre has been swapped but can easily be put back in.

MM5 tried to convert the Solex to manual choke but didn't get very far - hence the choke lever on the dashboard and cabling in the engine bay. It had new plugs and a dizzy cap in an attempt to cure the running issues.

This Rallye wheel has a bent rim. I have two others that spin up straight. These would be included in the £300 sale price. The tyres are Pirellis and have around 4mm of tread.

OS sill end. From the tide mark you can see it's been done in the past.

Crispy valance.

It's available for viewings in Stockport during the week, some weekday evenings and Saturday mornings. Cups of char and swearing available whether you want them or not.

Lovely car. Were it not for the fact that my legs don't fit these I'd be beating a path to your door...

I'm frankly astonished that you're selling this.

I'm not. I have no money, the 460 is filling up with water from the windscreen, roof and boot and I don't have the funding to get the 305 anywhere near road-legal. It's in the way. It's been off the road for three years and I've done nothing with it.

There's [potentially] a week day job on the horizon Nige, but it's miles away. I can't really afford to keep the 305.

I'm going to put this on Retro Rides but hold off from eBay for a wee while. Hopefully I won't have to resort to the latter.

Bugger me, was it really three years ago?  It seems like a lot less than that.

I bought it in June 2011, believe it or not......

That looks amazing. And so cheap!

Wish I had somewhere to put it.

My mate Coggers is local to you - do you want me to see if he has space available?

I've spoken to him before about getting a birth, it never came off though. Due to me being useless.

No harm in asking.....

I didn't realise it was so long ago since you bought it!, I'm guessing it sold now then, what's it's fate?.

It's being collected this evening. I know everyone on here thinks it's a tragedy but I can't afford this many cars - simple as. That's why the GS had to go, too - it went yesterday.

The Amazon gobbles up every spare penny I have. I allow it to do so because I'm never likely to sell it - besides, I'm in too deep now to stop. The C4 is also in dire need of attention. The rear pads are down to the metal and the timing belt is squealing. It may be a tool but I can't keep neglecting it in favour of a curio that hasn't moved in three years. I've been far too sentimental about my old rubbish and it's dragging me down.

I have another motor in the cull pool but at the moment my storage and finances aren't ready.

People on here clearly think I've lost it. Far from it. If the cars I need \ want to keep don't work properly, what's the point of having a field of broken crap?

You've got to do what's best for you, Jon. No point spreading thongs too thin and not getting enjoyment from any of them. Concentrate on one or two good ones and enjoy the cash you save.

Not everybody.

It's only a car at the end of the day, it's not life or death.

You're not mad Jon, needs must: I must admit to being envious of your ownership of these fantastic cars, and if I'd had more room and time or been brave enough to risk divorce I'd have had both this and the GS - but as it is, I'm struggling to find time to do owt with the Cavalier and the Imp, any car time I have is taken up with keeping the wife's Pug 106 and my 205 roadworthy - like the C4, a tool to allow me to get from A to B.

GLWTS, and do tell us about the other one...
