I pop in sometimes- often shite content in amongst the GT3's and powerfully built company directors.

Xantia Activa.

How about an Autoshite "Shed of the week"? But instead of the posh place's £1000, we could have £300?

We kind of do Shed Of The Week already, only without an umbrella title.  I've seen several cars advertised here at shed prices; not least Gary's Sierra right now, and Scootz' Volvo.  Would it be worth gathering them together in one place?  Who knows?  Not I, said the little red hen.

I like to keep an eye on the 'best of the bargain basement' thread - had some good ones in there lately such as a very nice 8V BX GTi and minty looking Montego Countryman on Car and Classics for only £500!

There is a hella lot of bullshit on there mind.

I think KruJoe did a compilation thread of all the shiteists motors for sale at one point, but these things become out of date very quickly.

It would be very handy though, as at times it's hard to keep track of what is available.

I don't mean cars for sale on here- just something that wins the weekly Ebay Tat thread or similar can have it's own thread so we can rip the **** out of it, or go all wobbly kneed. Bound to get a good discussion/punchup/tat collection thread going.

I do a sort of "tat of the day" or  "car of the wee while" kinda thing

Can we do polls on here? 1 per day then someone sad dedicated enough could tot it up on saturday then it hasa thread on sunday?

This is Autoshite. It needs to be more shite than Piston Heads. It would have to be "Outside Bog of The Week".

The Xantia link is nice :)

This one?  http://autoshite.com/topic/14543-shite-trader/?do=findComment&comment=450843

I did think it would probably not take off but it was worth a shot.  Any of those still available?

What I can't understand is how a decent car for a bag of sand is referred to as a "shed". It reeks of snobbery. It is as if only brand new cars are worthy. The less I say about this the better.

Pistonheads grips/boils my piss/shit. The last time I went on there, I fell across some tossers debating the merits of HP for HPs sake. Not one of them came up with a valid reason why they had a car on HP (like, for example, to offset against your tax). They were all saying a version of 'well, I need to show my neighbours that I'm better than them because the rest of my life is miserable and uninteresting, so I'm pretending to be interested in flash cars'.

Conversely, I do know one of their regular posters who is car mad and has a few bob, so what's cheap to him would be expensive to you or I. That said, he's always on the lookout for older cars which are bargains and his main car he's been driving since 2001, with a whole heap of mods. I did try to get him to switch his allegiance, with no luck! He can't understand why Sierras are suddenly 7k a throw either...

After Breadvan had left this parish in total disarray, I tried to convince him to come to last year's Chodmolestley. For this, I joined Pissonsheds to track him down and send him a PM.

The roughly ten minutes I therefore had to spend on that site are among the most traumatising experiences of my life. I still haven't quite recovered from it and blatantly refuse

to click on any hyperlink starting with http://www.piston... just to protect myself from further damage.

I got banned from there for daring to question their "It's all about the speed" slogan. I was curious as to how this worked when a sticker with this slogan was displayed prominently on a entry spec Peugeot 306 4 door diesel with two missing wheel trims, mismatched ditchfinders, a snapped off rear wiper and a back seat littered with fast food wrappers.

I was clear then, and I'll be clear now; I'm not criticising the Peugeot, it is what it is. But if as you claim "it's all about the speed" as you claim, you probably wouldn't choose said Peugeot to cabby about it. Apparently it's me that doesn't get "it". On reflection, I think that I don't really want "it".

Part of the reason I like this place, TBF, it's not pretentious in the slightest. Pistonhead, NSRA, RetroRides all start with the best of intentions but seem to end up monopolised by wankers.

You need to get on the RS owners club and ask what makes a Cosworth so special, then stand well back.......

I joined when I bought the Escort, and naturally stuck some pics up

I immediately got posts telling me it's got the wrong mirrors, should it have That sort of rear bumper, the wrong colour plastic rivets on the side skirts ect ect

1 guy even pulled up the factory build sheet for the car to help prove his point that it Did have a cd player fitted from new.......

The MGF forums are a bit like that, it's their way or you just get ignored.

My dad got rid of his TR6 for similar reasons.

AND ANOTHER THING... *taps table indignantly*... anyone who's got one of their car stickers in their rear window seems to drive like a tool. Saw one of their number in a Puma nearly come a cropper by St Albans a few months ago, going a million mph and not using his mirrors when pulling out. Obviously, it was all about the speed and not the poor person who he nearly collected.

Oooh. There it goes. Shit is boiling now. Grrr.

I only go on Pistonheads for the bargain basement buys thread and sometimes look at shed of the week but I find that with most of the shed of the week offerings on piston-heads are normally overpriced or not cars that I would touch with a barge pole due to issues..but I guess most powerful built company directors don't have an idea of prices like us lot..

It reminds me of the top gear cheap car challenges where the 3 numptys would buy a convertible or sports car etc and would always end up buying an overpriced shitheap when the likes of us would end up with a better motor for less than half the price..

But saying that I would like to see a top gear episode where the 3 of them buy Laguna IIs and have to get from Lands End to John O Groats but I guess that would be an extremely short episode as all 3 would be extremely lucky to make it to Truro.

Interesting about the Shed of the Week thing; I always thought/think that the actual article is quite well written but the sentiment behind it is awful, seeming to appeal to types who "look at all those funny poor people and their silly little old cars. Not like us are they? AND they're all on benefits. Read it on Facebook..."

In my mind, there is nothing better than getting one over on idiots and it is SO easy to do when it comes down to things like cars, guitars...anything really. It's just so nice to see that the overwhelming majority of this site can see through the bollocks, are a bit more realistic and also, aren't all about showing off unless it's something we'd all appreciate (which, to be fair, is a rare thing...).

Piston Heads is a very big site and is quite diverse. I've been a member of the site for a few years and have found that most of the bad behaviour and unpleasantness is confined to certain sections and that staying in the car parts of the site is definitely to be recommended. I do find myself to be quite out of step with the collective reasoning of Piston Heads, though maybe that is as much a reflection of modern life in the UK as it is the PH site?

I find PH to be quite a lot less pretentious than Retro Rides (I also find RR's faux-positive 'ethos' profoundly irritating) - though PH more than makes up for it with the number of angry yuppies and strangely heartless people who seem unable to see beyond themselves and their own lives.

Realistically, every site has its less than edifying moments - even this one.

Interesting what you say about the collective conciousness of a site. When I found this place, I found it very refreshing - it's got a really nice feel to it, everyone seems to want to get along - and if they think another person is utterly wrong, they'll take the piss or give a solid reason why they don't agree - there's rarely any malice to it and so much of it seems good humoured. Also, new people (myself included) are welcomed. With PH, I've found that it's very exclusive and very quick to judge, at least on the website portion (I can't speak for the meet-ups, they might be a friendly affair). Also, unless you own/have owned/are about to own something 'a bit special', then don't bother talking.

I do find it very interesting though, that Audi sees fit to place sponsored content on there. I think that pretty much sums it up.

may have owned a PH-stickered Pooma. I also live in St Albans.

The two only overlapped briefly, so the chances of it being me are slim. But possible.

Back on topic:

I'm not a fan of the PH forums... you can almost guarantee every thread turns against the original poster. I've been to a few of their Sunday Service events though, which are pretty good, and went to the Nurburgring with a number of their members earlier in the year. As humans the ones I've met seem to be half-decent.

Well, this wasn't so long back, so I wouldn't have thought it was you! Anyway, technically, it was just by the Galleria, so Hatfield...!

I like Pistonheads! I love the way that everyone has a go at the OP (that's original poster) just because. I have never seen so many people in one place who are all spoiling for a fight! Quite often you read an original post and it's quite obviously done tongue in cheek and then everyone takes it dead seriously and they all fall out.

They are all company directors and powerfully built and anything older than 2 years is fit only for the scrapyard. Of course, if it's French, they are quite correct :)

There are some good people on there though: when I was looking at Bentleys one guy went and looked at a couple for me without me even asking! Wouldn't take any money and gave me lots of good advice. Nice people in the pets forums who are again, willing to give friendly and helpful advice. Then there's that chap 'Flemke'. I really want to be his best friend as he seems to be a really sound geezer and the fact that he's got a couple of McLarens is neither here nor there!

All in all, it's a  bit hit and miss but I quite enjoy some of it.
