Anglevan Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Oh bugger. Is it defo in bin ? Is everyone ok ? If it is and you can keep salvage let me know as would be good for spares for my lancer. If you need any assistance with the insurance let me know as I may be able to assist. Junkman 1
loserone Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 This is sad. Now I won't be able to convince the Junkwoman of the necessity to acquire an R16 for another year. Silver lining. Junkman 1
Junkman Posted September 2, 2014 Author Posted September 2, 2014 Oh bugger. Is it defo in bin ? Is everyone ok ? If it is and you can keep salvage let me know as would be good for spares for my lancer. If you need any assistance with the insurance let me know as I may be able to assist. I wasn't in the car, so I'm fine (so is everyone else). It'll be in bin insofar, as it will definitely be written off.I will keep it as salvage, of course, because it will yield many good parts for you.Any assistance in dealing with the insurance is utmost appreciated, because I have no idea how that works.
Pillock Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 On no, that's shitty news.... Any assistance in dealing with the insurance is utmost appreciated, because I have no idea how that works.Quick primer: you phone them up, they immediately start to screw you over until you admit defeat. Questions? Junkman 1
dugong Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 1. Don't let them take the car away for assessment. Insist they do it at your house and at your convenience. 2. GOTO 10. 3. Their first offer will be insulting. Reject it until a mutually acceptable amount appears. chaseracer and Junkman 2
saucedoctor Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Bummer. That was a wee cracker. Junkman 1
eddyramrod Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Oh no, that's bad news. Thankfully you're still able to tell us about it... +1 on keeping the salvage, if you have somewhere suitable; also on not accepting their first offer. Good luck! Junkman and dugong 2
Magnificent Rustbucket Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 I'm sorry to see this. I liked that little Colt and they're so rare now. Still, no one was injured and that's more important than any car. Junkman 1
Junkman Posted September 2, 2014 Author Posted September 2, 2014 It's a crying shame.I just had located a company in Belgium that sells repair panels for the rear arches, and found a brand new front wing in Germany.I had plans with the car.
Junkman Posted September 2, 2014 Author Posted September 2, 2014 Quick primer: you phone them up, they immediately start to screw you over until you admit defeat. Questions? Yes, what if I'm the bigger crook? Luckythirteen 1
Partridge Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Bollocks. Junkman, I was rear ended this March and thus am up to speed with how they deal with these things. Car was not a write off though (just).PM me if you want to ask anything, or give me a bell on 0797 904 1136. Call, don't text, as I don't have any credit. If any of you lot prank call me I'll draw a cock on your avatar. cms206, Sigmund Fraud, Conrad D. Conelrad and 6 others 9
Pillock Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Yes, what if I'm the bigger crook?A bigger crook than an insurance company? My head hurts just thinking about that. eddyramrod and Junkman 2
trigger Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 What a shame. At least no one's hurt. I've just spotted the new plates too, they did look excellent... Junkman 1
Lord Sterling Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Damn! I am very sorry to hear about this Junkman. Just when you had plans for this great little thing, some arse comes and wrecks it for you Junkman 1
Ghosty Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Don't forget the arbitrary whiplash claim - the mother rear-ended a stationary Jazz at about 5-10mph last month when her ABS went all funny in the wet. Only damage was a 5cm hole in the Jazz bumper and a crack in the mother's numberplate. Two of the three people in the other car claimed for whiplash On the bright side - good thing everyone's okay. I think there's at least one more Colt knocking about Manchester - spotted a blue/gray one the other day. Might have been B-reg, don't remember.
Luckythirteen Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Noooooo!!! How can people be so inconsiderate, as to rear end such a fine car? Couldn't they have aimed for a financed shitbox that nobody gives a second thought about?AS Retribution Squad time... dugong 1
Angrydicky Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Ah man that sucks, especially after all the effort you went to to improve the car. The plates did look great. Any photos of the damage?

Anglevan Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 If you need any assistance just pm me. Glad everyone was ok.
skattrd Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 I feel sorry for you Junkman, is a replacement in the pipeline?
Owain71 Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 +1 to all of the above... this really sucks. Probably some fool looking down at his/her lap & texting while driving (it's worrying just how many people I see doing that).
Owain71 Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Oreganol Stealer sticker: New rear plate: New front plate: Whole car: Note glimpse of new Neighbourshite in background. I think it's a Hyundai of some sort. Plates are courtesy of Dugong. Many, many thanks again! Can I ask who made up the new plates? Both of my old Subarus need new front plates (both still have their original rears, so I'd like to have the dealer logos duplicated for the fronts) p.s. Aren't manufacturers' ad "strap lines" the best? "Designed to be driven" - I'd f***ing hope so, too! Junkman 1
Junkman Posted September 3, 2014 Author Posted September 3, 2014 Right. So far I can't complain about the way the insurance is handling this, in fact, it's rather civilised.I spoke to a chap this morning, who obviously owns an Ovlov Estate and pays with money that has pictures of grim looking knights on it.Yes, they send an engineer to my house to inspect the car, and yes, the Junkwoman and Junkdaughter #1will be contacted by their legal department for their personal injury claims. Our NCB won't be affected, since it's not our fault. This is all pretty much like our last shunt was dealt with by the Germans.Still, all the hassle is a veritable pain in the arse, of course, but that's hardly the insurance company's fault. I will deal with the question regarding what is going to happen with the car when I arrive at that bridge. The car is still drivable, and there are cars out there that can be bought, so I declined the offer for a hire car.No, don't say anything. They don't have pre-1986 hire cars, so I'm not having one! End of! Vince70, Partridge, Angrydicky and 4 others 7
dollywobbler Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Good on you. Spurious injury claims and ridiculous charges for hire cars (like three times the high street rate) are why premiums keep rocketing up. Insurance companies are bent as hell. Very sad news about the car though. Bloody idiots, ruining our heritage.
Junkman Posted September 3, 2014 Author Posted September 3, 2014 I feel sorry for you Junkman, is a replacement in the pipeline? Well, every car can be replaced, unless it's a possessed brown Rover P6 with an orange interior, no?Whatever replaces it will not be another old J-tin, though. The horrible spares unavailability is too much of a liability for a car that's used as a daily driver. Besides: Buy British, etc etc. Does anyone out there have a bovine-free Bader-spec 416, he wants to get rid of? Lord Sterling and Vince70 2
skattrd Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 .... Does anyone out there have a bovine-free Bader-spec 416, he wants to get rid of? http://retrorides.proboards.com/thread/169524/1992-rover-auto-south-oxfordshire If you're interested you may need to be quick though as he reckons it's going banger racing this weekend.
dollywobbler Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Be warned though, it's a Japanese engine. Mine is still burning oil. Bulletproof! Ha!
