What force of nature dictates that "some medical training" equates to an innate higher power when it comes to tarting up old BMWs?

Well, that was the point I tried to make initially perhaps Im getting too sardonic in my old age.

That and it doesnt matter what you spend on a car there will be a ceiling level for that particular type of car, same with houses. I can spends hundreds of thousands on my house, but it wouldnt make it worth hundreds of thousands more than what it currently is worth now.

Finally we agree on something! Because that's what I said too! And if they'd just said "Mr" (or even no title at all!) then no one would be the wiser. I wasn't pleased by the way they'd quoted me as "Dr" ( a term or title I NEVER use in daily life anyway!) to somehow enhance the sale of their car.

Depends on the house and where it is, doesn't it? That might apply to your house...but think about it....that won't apply to all houses?

There is another 'doctor' on ebay about whom I've previously said I would buy a lot of his cars if I was a wealthy man. I am not though, so I don't.

Thank you! A succinct and accurate summary!

FFS, piss off and troll away on some other site, will you? This one clearly isn't for you. We're not going to change. Accept it and move on.

I'd prefer it if you played 'click the little red X at the top right of your screen'.

Maybe with an average of 8.5 posts per day, every day for 4 years (on this forum alone!) you ought to try clicking the little red button a little more often... hmmm?

Oh...I just noticed the "tarting up" bit!

You obviously missed the links to the "tarting up" of the black M535i that I posted earlier?

But medical training doesn't equate to an innate higher power when it comes to "tarting up" old Mercs either!

But, in truth, I've realised (and should have done so much earlier from the title of the website) that this website is nothing to do with anybody actually interested in nice cars. And so the Pagoda may be way not just "off topic" but also actually way "off website". A shame really because the three cars in the logo bar at the top actually appear to be quite nice and interesting cars and thus give a misleading impression.

Anyway....Happy Shiting! ( I'm guessing that's how you spell it?)

Wow, this escalated quickly!

I must say, although they are lovely BMW's, if not overpriced, I'm not sure of the finish of them...

Pic 20 - There seems to be alot of orange peel on that paintwork, a common BMW issue, rectified by some wet sanding and an afternoon with a good rotary and compound, followed by hours of refining.

Has the car been cleaned at all? There's no depth to the paintwork, no sharp reflections. I;d go as far to say that it's had some filler rich, silicone heavy shit slapped all over it, so it passes the 5 yard test. How come there's no macro'd close up pics of the paintwork? For 8k I'd expect zero defects at all.

Pic 23 - the bumper doesn't look completely level to me...

Pic 34 - is that a hologram I see on the rear pillar? Surely you spent 10 minutes with a soft pad and a finishing compound to whip those off? Turtle wax is shit at these sort of things...

8/10 for effort, but no cigar today!

REPRESENTATIVE EXAMPLE: REPRESENTATIVE 59.8%APR. Flat rate fixed interest of 30% per annum. 156 equal weekly repayments of £69.37. The total amount payable on loan is £11121.47. The cash cost of the car is £5995.

To put this in perspective, I took an IDENTICAL car in PX about 2 hours ago- same year, same spec, same colour, even the same mileage (40k). I gave £1200 for it (book money). It's an absoulte peach with full history so we may chance our arm at £3495 on the front, nearly half what these twunts are asking.

Posted

I suppose they've got it all really, Alex. Polish up some old shitter and by inflating the asking price this bumps up the finance charges and profit-double whammy. I would venture to assume that some people really are so stupid as to be keeping the fella in business too, that's the really worrying bit.

Posted

A 4k margin also gives them the ability to offer the sorry div who saunters through the door £1000 for their snotty old P-Plate Vectra and still retain a nice bunse. The customer will think they are doing them a right favour, the dealer is laughing their bollocks off.

I know where that dealers is, if it would make you guys feel any better I'll go and post a steaming bag of horse shit through their letterbox.

But make sure you tell them they have to take the finance on, then pull out a receipt for £12,000 a month written on some bog roll.

I'd like to say I wouldn't think anyone could be stupid enough to buy a car on those terms, but they actually have two branches, the other one is at 957 London Road. Looks like a pretty big operation.

'This vehicle was custom upgraded specifically for an expedition from Cheshire to South Africa. We took a standard Land Rover 300 TDI and fitted it with a front roll cage, orange and black leather bucket seats for a lot of extra comfort and a Pioneer CD sound system with four speakers and a sub-woofer...'

'Ideally I would like £10,000'

And ideally I'd like to teach the world to sing, and put an end to suffering if I could. With the dedicated heart and soul Of Britain's greatest rock 'n' roll Robin Hood. Or at least wake up next to one of Liberty X.

Neither of those is going to happen, just like you getting ten big ones for that.

Also, leave some dubious shit about the car they can 'find' whilst appraising it. A sex toy inside a ketchup bottle, a handwritten list of celebs' with the dead ones crossed out, an over ripe banana with the words 'GOAT PENIS' carved in the side of it - etc

Seriously though it'd be great to do a part-ex deal with theis chap then get a mate with a finance company to stick shit loads of finance on the car you're chopping in right at the last minute. I'd love to see the fella's face when someone turns up to reposess it.

Sir,

I'm sorry to say you are wrong on all counts there. It maybe that you are interpreting what you see in the digital photographs...which is fair enough.

Your comment about BMW paintwork is not at all relevant in this case. Those pictures were taken just after the car had come back from a full repaint (along with brand new sills, front wings, bonnet etc). So the paint isn't BMW's paint anymore. However, the paintshop I use are extremely good. To the extent that comment the mechanic I used to use for the BMWs was the retired ex-Head Technician of 25 years standing at my local BMW dealership (used to come to me to help me do stuff on these cars as he knows them inside out as I'm sure you can imagine) was: "My God! These guys are good...and I've seen a lot of paintwork over the years!"

Even so...I have quite a lot of experience in 'detailing' (as we now call it...and much it gained from American Detailing Forums way before the term was ever used here) and I can tell you for a fact that to do even a very good car takes far, far longer than spending "an afternoon". I'll spend "an afternoon" on one panel alone if I'm doing that. If you were intending spending just "an afternoon" on any of my cars...I'm sorry, I wouldn't let you anywhere near them! Well, I might let you have a go on my wife's scratched and dinted E39 528i Touring! LOL!

It's a long time ago that I did that car so I can't remember anymore what I would have used for the 'final stage' in those days. My guess is at the time it would have either been:

Zaino Z2-Pro with ZFX Accelerator multicoated with Z6 Gloss Enhancer between layers (I don't use it anymore)

Or, I may just have gone for a 'natural' which at the time (and often still is) would have been S-100.

So I think your assessment of pic 20 is wrong...and one should know better than to try to make such suggestion based on a compressed digital photo.

I can't really see what you mean about the bumper in that pic nor any of the other clearer pics of the bumper? It's a good four years ago since I did that car so I can't really remember. What I do remember is that these bumpers are NLA new from BMW (although I did manage to get some of the corners new through the BM Mechanic I mentioned above) and I did a near 400 mile round trip to find the best ones I could get.

Pic 34 - Is that a hologram I see in the rear pillar? Erm...by that I take it you mean the white 'line' running across the C-Pillar? No, that's the reflection of the white soffit board of the building opposite about 50 yards away. I don't use Turtle Wax (which from the above I you now realise?)...and I don't do anything in 10 minutes!

The thing is...this car isn't mine to sell and whether you'd expect zero defects at all for £8K isn't really relevant because your £8K won't buy that car! It's more!

This particular car has had an "in the flesh" (not from compressed digital images with digital noise on them) assessement, report and valuation done by the BMW Car Club GB and signed by Jeff Heywood the Club Chairman. They also valued it above your £8K !

Can't figure out how to do a screen shot but the summary reads:

"Mr XXXXXX's car is a superb example of a 1985 E28 535i with body and paintwork in excellent condition due to a no expense spared restoration. The condition of the car make it pretty unique, therefore I value the car at £*,*** for replacement purposes."

And " £*,*** " wasn't £8K !

Anyway, this wasn't a car I sold...it was a car I restored for someone else so again I have no particular personal vested interest in its monetary value.

Nevertheless, thank you for taking the time to look at the photos in such great depth!

Being a surgeon, don't you have to go and drink yourself to death somewhere?

The Avenger is a tad high I think but lovely nonetheless. If it was presented a bit better I could see it reaching nearly that - after all the Doc got £3100 for his auto Marina and this is much more desirable I reckon.

Check out the reg date though - March 1970. Isn't that the month they went on sale? I'd still love one someday but cheap ones are no longer available I fear.

Yo, derin100, how about throwing up some pictures of repairing the rot on the Pagoda in a different thread for us all to see? Did you do the welding etc. yourself?
