55bloke Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 Yes, but it's an old Golf plus a LOT of hours of work, and a thing of beauty as the result. It's not just the car you're paying for.
RedSparrow Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 Sorry, but I think that Golf looks fucking shit. But, personal taste etc etc.
Guest Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 Sorry, but I think that Golf looks fucking shit. But, personal taste etc etc.+1. That car pretty much sums up why I don't understand the VW 'scene'.
Cavcraft Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 +2.To be honest if old cars like that really can make that sort of coin it must be piss easy to get an original-ish Mk2 Golf, colour it in with crayons, add some 'whacky' extras and then sell it for about fifty times it's real value.
VWPowered Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 i got the mag today with its feature, not my cup of tea but each to their own etc
CIH Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 i got the mag today with its feature, not my cup of tea but each to their own etcyou mean it looks shit.....?

Its had a total respray inside and out for a start, thats never cheap or easy. And check the chassis legs in the engine bay pic, they have been beautified with great care to get rid of all the spot welds etc. Its the detail innit. No-one has to like this car, but its defo had masses of effort and time gone into it, no-one can call it a pile of shit.

Mash Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 I'm usually one of the first to diss heavily modded stuff but I have to admit, VW scene notwithstanding, I do rather like that Golf
wuvvum Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 I'm with Bo11ox on this one. Whether or not you like what's been done to that Golf (and personally I do quite like most of it), you have to admit it's been done well, compared to some of the shit you see on the VW "scene".
Cavcraft Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 I don't know if I'd called it a pile of shite but I don't like it all the same. It's the price that gets me the most though, as nice as it is it just seems crazy money.
STUNO Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 At 900 pounds this might actually be a bargain http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 455038.htm
Pete-M Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 There was a little bit in one of the Classic car mags recently stating that if you restore a car properly to pretty much 'as new' state then if you do the right car it is actually worth it as prices for the best stuff are so much higher than the price for a crock.Last time this happened was the 80's mental boom. I can't see that happening again, but suspect that there are a lot of 35-55 age blokes out there who would pay £5-10k for a perfect example of a car they've always wanted. They'd happily pay good money for a perfect example of one of their dream cars instead of buying a three year old Audi A6. I'm not in that position, but if I was I'd be more tempted to buy a perfect one than to spend a year trying to get a cheap one right. The Escort is going to be perfect eventually, but it would have been a lot less hassle to buy a mint one than do what I'm doing. If I'd bought a minter last year instead of this one, then bloody volcanoes wouldn't have the slightest effect...
CIH Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 not ebay but any fancy a not-mint FX Rolla GT http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C147765/ £2.5k!!

Mash Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Blimey that P4 is a shed, I'd struggle to find 40 quid's worth of usable bits on it. Looks like he specialises in garden ornaments, previously sold this S-Type for 150 notes:
brammy777 Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 I see that the seller of that horrific chrome disaster is also the seller of that Lowrider Chevy pickup which has been for sale for at least a year and a half now.

I'm with you on that, I can see that loads of effort have gone into it, I just don't think the means justify the result. For one thing, I don't think air cooled styling cues work on a brick shaped car from the 80's. The reason I singled it out as an example of why I don't understand the VW 'scene' is that it's supposed to be the ultimate expression of what they do and what the whole thing is supposed to be about, whilst cliches such as 'unique' abound. I don't actually think that anyone into VWs actually understands what this word means. There was a similar car that appeared at Worthersee before this one - with a similar wicker interior and a similar shade of beige-brown. While I cannot fault the workmanship, you can't help but wonder what would have resulted had he applied such graft to something rare and unusual. He wouldn't have even had to go outside the VAG sphere - what about an NSU Ro80, or a DKW Schnellaster? A car like that is supposed to stretch and challenge the boundaries of what modified cars are about - that Golf just beautifies them.

wuvvum Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 How about this then? Twelve bags for a five-year-old Magentis...
outlaw118 Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Just messaged him, enquiring if he had been taking any medication recently...
Alexg Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 12k for a 5 year old Magentis!?!? Imagine that blokes disapointment when he realises it's worth about a 5th of that....
pogweasel Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Jeezy Chreezy, I bet that Magentis wasn't 12 large new.
GJR 11L Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 It's just as well that everyone on this board is so mature and above childish shenanigans, or the seller of that Kia would be seeing a series of bidders taking the price to around the £100k mark before he realised that he was having the piss taken......... Bought one similar a while ago for a mate, same age, half the mileage, nice shiny black paint and lots of toys; £585 including auction fees.
AXrescuer Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 How about this then? Twelve bags for a five-year-old Magentis... Just told him that he's put the comma in his price too far to the right!
