Oh and I am surprised by how offended people are by the colour, I wasn't aware metallical green was so bad (apart from the flat "british racist green" on my old mx5 which was 100% unloveable)

Looks a good buy for under £300, Like you I remember people paying well over £10k for these not so long ago.

'Coppers low melting point' when the F is a brake pipe going to get any where near its melting temp??

This.

Cupronickel brake pipes are on thousands upon thousands of vehicles.  They'll pass an MOT, and I've yet to hear of failures not caused by shit installation or twattish routing. (no, don't zip tie the brake pipe to the damper, you twazzock, etc...)

Looks like a bargain and you have a chimney (sunroof) which must of been a rare option..

As previous posters have said I hate the colour but I can't say anything as I've had 4 cars (still have two of them) that have been the same colour and German.

I think there was a job lot of dark metallic green paint knocking about in the back of a cupboard in Germany somewhere that had to be used up during the mid to late 90s. And I think Metallic green could be the new hearing aid beige.

Good luck with the ticket I hope it goes through ok without to much trouble.

I quite like that colour and think it suits the car well. A top buy, that, shouldn't be too difficult to make a decent drink out of.

(Whooping)

She's passed!

IN UR FACE VOSA!! YEAH!!

(Whooping and air punching).

Brakes and emissions spot on, advised on two front flexys so I'll do those as they're only 8 quid each. It has got a noisy rear wheel bearing, not the easiest job. But overall, not bad at all.

2 different sizes of rear bearing on these, 75 and 85mm. I have the BMW WERKSTAT-INFORMATIONSSYSTEM-SCHWEINHUND, if you can tell me what year the car is I'll post the relevant article, if required.

Already sor-ted cheers - it's 1999 built, part number got from BMW and cross referenced, now to get one from Euro Car Farts..

What's this shite with copper/nickel bake pipes?

I think it should be mandatory that car manufacturers should be banned from using that steel shite they have been

fobbing us off with for years.

While replacing the said steel shite, I have often found bits of it that just crumble when disturbed, usually in hidden places like inner wheel arches and under fuel tanks where you just can't see the condition of it.

Even steel pipes will fracture if not supported by fixings and flex ever brake application.

Nope give me the non-corroding stuff anytime.

That green is quite OK. My BMW wears Islandgrün-Metallic, THAT is a greeen! And the car was even ordered in that colour to a dealer as a demonstrator!

I can even hear the salesman: 'Hey, the new 24V is out, let's order one with a real weird spec: Green/beige, 4 headrests, alloys, ABS, sunroof, foglights, cheapo stereo, small interior lights pack and leave out leccy windows, comp and wood!'

I like the colour,i think it suits it.I also think a E46 is a good looking car.

That looks the same colour as my old starship E39. Oxford Green?

I like Green cars. Those Mental cases who believe Green cars are unlucky won't get in. As I don't particularly want to spend time with that kinda weirdo it's a win win.

FAG rear wheelbearing, two front Pagid flexy hoses and a contitech alternator/PAS/water pump belt. With VAT 50 quid from the ECP GODS.

According to the HBOL this lot should take 67 minutes to fit. I will report back in three days.

I wouldn't know where to start doing a rear bearing on one of these. Show us the SPESHIL TOOLZ in action!

Posted

The speshal toulz are basically various spacers and a long threaded rod. Plus circlip pliers, a fucking great hammer and assorted drifts.

Posted

That doesn't sound very German. Can't you call it a FUKENGRÄTBIGHAMAAR instead?

Did the bearing this morning - a portion of piss. Took 2.5 hours.

A short precis:

Undo hubnut. Remove six twatting torx bolts, drift out shaft from hub.

Twat hub with harge hammer from inside till it pops out.

Pull bearing with spacers and long threaded thing.

Reassemble.

Also changed both front flexys, took 30 mins for both. The unions came apart with the flick of an 11mm spanner, bleed nipples moved and bled. Took the beast for a drive, lovely and quiet.

Next: a tax disc.

I've already sorted the scrape on the wing, fitted some legal 16 inch alloyz pending some tyres for the shitty MV's, pending me actually being arsed.

Update WITH NO PICS

interior resurrected with a set of free black cloth seats in really good nick due to a prestige leatherz upgrade elsewhere. The carpets were so grim despite hoovering them to buggery. The answer - big can of matt black aershole in a well vented area . Worked a treat. Rest of the plastics scrubbed up well.

Went to the scrapyard today and picked up a set of 2001 E46 clear indicator tail lights and side front indicators for M SPORT LOOK. Also a mint Oxford green passenger front wing. My repair to the scuffed arch is okay but this wing was £10 and unmarked/easy to swap. Also some spares- nearly new ally wishbone, and at last a drivers door lock mit key. Hopefully this ginger stepchild will be wearing a disc in the screen for Feb.

Generally quieter and moar refined, better ride. A good one is very pleasant. Those amber indicators just had to go - I fitted a new set on my white 93 E36 Coupe, but they look nasty on the E46.

Are the post 01 318 any good?

No, they're shite. Very complex engine with loads of problems.

Top bombing with that one.

I have an '93 E36 325 in Lagungrauen or something, I think green looks class.
