1974 DATSUN 120Y FOR SALE - LEICESTER

A friend of mine is clearing a private collection of cars (keeping 41 selling 96) due to life changing health issues. He now knows he will never do them all up so its culling time. So before its on R.R I am advertising this here. 1974 Datsun 120y sunny 41.000 miles and 3 owners. This is a car I found - the history is that a local to me old boy bought it at 1 year old and it was transferred to his wife in 1992 on his death. It was used until 1996 then garaged until her death in 2009. Bought from the family to be restored - but its not going to happen. Will need welding / brakes / service etc as expected. His old boy touches like a horrible blue carpet fitted.

That's lovely, and I hope it goes to someone who will appreciate it.  The price will probably preclude most, if not all, of us here, but GLWTS.

Mine was 50 notes... but then it was 1986!

It is, and rightly so.  It was sooooooooooo much nicer to drive than any equivalent Escort or Viva, which in turn were streets ahead of the Marina.  It was also very well made, although look at mine: they hadn't "got" rustproofing yet.  In that pic the car is only 12 years old.  As for Rootes, they didn't even have a direct competitor for it!  The lookalike Avenger was huge in comparison.

I love these things- when I were a kid, one sister had an orange coop, on 12" wheels, the other a brown 4 door, fatha had a 100A F11 and bruvva had a Laurel. Brown 4 door was traded for a 810 Bluey, Orange coop was traded for a 120Y New Sunny and 100A for a Polo..

I like Datsuns,me..I grew up with spangly blue carpet and square dials.

Anyone got an orange coop?

Ludicrous though it may seem, but that carpet is factory-fitted!

:D

Often causes arguements at family gatherings. I also reckon that if your alternator died, you could make it home by just connecting a wire to the battery from your shoes and just create 40 amps from tapping your feet to Radio 2.

Four door, standing car (brakes, fuel system, engine), rust/welding - One owner, etc doesn't mean anything if the last owner was mother nature (see what I did there?).

Definitely overpriced, seeing as you can get them cheaper on ebay for OTR versions (yes I have seen them, no I don't have proof).
