Classic Motor Show, NEC, this weekend

I'll probably be there on Sunday. I'll probably go in the 604.

Anyone else in London area going on Sunday?  I'll have room in the car if you want a lift

Posted

How about a meeting up place. Anyone game to try to meet others?

What about the BX club stand at 11am and 2pm on each day?

I have no idea if this is practical, or does anyone else have an idea?

I will be there on the Saturday, on a tool buying misson. Got the tickets slightly discounted with a promo code. Ã‚£18 all-in is not bad at all for a vast, all-day event like this. Just have to watch the obscene food and drinks costs, which is where your money really disappears.

For food I go outside the halls and get a subway for lunch. I think it involves a stroll back towards the station but is worth it obv to save money and avoid queues.

Well, in theory I should be there both times on the Sunday. Unless I've forgotten and wandered off...

Sounds like a plan. For those of us that won't recognise anyone we could have a secret phrase so we know who's a shiter and who's not.

Given the venue, I suggest "take me to your Leader"

I did think that we could gather there and attach a label " Autoshite " to somewhere to identify ourselves.

I don't fancy walking up to every weird person at the BX club stand and asking them to take me anywhere !!

Does anyone know what time the doors are open for exhibitors to get in? 7am?

Seems like you've known us for years already.

We have a nice large stand this year and have restricted ourselves to few enough cars to allow for milling around room. As noted above, I'm the blonde one in the minority gender group and today I have decided to wear my close-enough to Triton Green BX Club 30th anniversary T-shirt, which may or may not be visible under an International Citroen Car Club Rally hoodie, depending how cold I am. I can then introduce you to some less weird Autoshite people who may have wandered over at the same time.

Posted

I will wander up to the BX stand at 11am and 2 pm and attempt to speak to any blonde about, do not call the police as it will be just an innocent mistake.

Seeing all the stuff travelling there yesterday, and everyone's comments today makes me wish I was going. If it's worth spending £300 on for our Scottish members, it's worth me driving 35 minutes down the road, right? And I've got a day off today too.

Sadly I need to be back at 3pm for the school run, Mrs_Pillock booked me ages ago for that as she's got a conference on today, so I've gotta be going by 2ish. And Friday is a tenner more expensive than Saturday, I've just noticed that it's nearly £30 entrance today, £18.50 tomorrow. Bastards. That makes it less great value.

Posted

Been planning on going to this show for a couple of years but always missed it due to one thing and another.

Not this year. Pleased to say I will be there on Sunday.

Posted

If you think that the tickets are expensive, you should see how much they carge for the electricity supply to the "free" stand.  Plus public liability insurance etc.

I've just got home from excellent day there, RobT found me too which was nice! I'll upload some utterly shit photos shortly...

I was there too, just got home. Met up with Watagong and also met Mr Lobster and his tasty selection of model cars. Myself and Jon were dribbling tryi g to stop ourselves parti g with cash for more models. I did buy a 1/18 XM off Dugong which I'm well happy with. We were looking for you too Trigger. Great day, if a little expensive.

On the way back after a fairly cost effective day.

Saved a packet by taking my own chunner sarnies.

Caught up with LS too, much conflab occurred. Took some shots on my phone. I'm selfish, I only take pictures of things that interest me. The lighting also makes shooting difficult, even with a DSLR and a powerful flash.

At least I got to have a go of a KV6 800 Sterling. I revelled in the mid-nineties Rover smell and ticked off a box on the Autoshite VIC 20 spreadsheet.

I've just been chatting Jon on FB about it, I'm sorry I missed you all, I didn't even realise you was there! Or Mr Lobz!

I spent too much time over at the Autojumble, there was some lovely stuff there and i could have spent a fortune! I did spend £10 on this little haul though.

As for show photos, well, mine are shit, a cross between poor lighting and the fact i couldn't be arsed to carry my DSLR around all day so optted for my S2 camera phone meant shite piccys, still they give you an idea, I also seemed to miss a load of stands which I'm gutted about but i ran out of time.

This was sad, the owner of the Cortina died on Monday, it would have been his 29th NEC show.

Wasn't that old Shove-anne the one for sale in Suffolk a while back? seems to look familiar. Also the silver mk1 XR2 is the one they did as a Vanguards model. Nice photos there Triggs

Yeah that's the one, It's a bit of a heap though, apparently it belonged to Jack Mulley who founded Mulleys Motorways, the coach company in Ixworth.

My sister who came along with us had a great day too, she ended up on the live stage to play some card game and won a DVD player and book, she also got her photo taken with Andy Sugden from Emmerdale Farm who was wondering around, Fuzz Townshend, Quentin Willson and the Wheeler Dealer chaps.

If I was not so drunk I would be ruining your sisters reputation with Photoshop right now.

I reckon I could probably do Brewer in the same style too.

There is a small chance I be going Sunday with my brother and dad. So I try and keep a eye out. If I don't make it I'll settle for some of Triggers excellent pictures instead.

That orange Scirocco is MEGA, I'd love to chat to the owner about that. It looks absolutely great!

The lighting is sinful in that place. Otherwise fantastic photos

Had a decent day up there today and managed not to spend a fortune. Thank you D_W for the station car parking tip - just a fiver for the whole day. My biggest expense was petrol for the thirsty V8, but the good long run will have done her good. Met Barry 'Whizzo' Williams and saw a few familiar faces. Favourite stands/cars of the day for me were the immaculate Rover 800's (I don't think they even looked that decent when they were in the showroom) and there was a nice selection of very tidy Capris too.
