Top drawer Sierra shite £ COLLECTED AND RE-HOMED!

Cons:

No MOT,

Screen needs replacing before MOT,

Previous MOT advisory mentions corrosion and ball joints (the darlings of the MOt tester)

Radiator leaks within half an hour.

I'd suggest taking a radiator with you if anyone wants it - 100 is very cheap though!

Pic from happier times.

Ive just re read the thread, found myself missing having it around, but I'm not able to entertain taking it back with the pug 504 taking my time and money at the mo.

I do hope someone can as its a decent motah, well worth a bit of effort and really relaxing to pootle about in. The alloys are near mint, all the tyres are decent, its a lovely colour, the interior is brimming with the little details that mark it out as the top specced estate you could buy from ford uk at the time. Its even got pneumatic lumbar adjustment!!!! The windscreen issue is a  shame but do it on the insurance and get a spanking new fully functioning heated front screen back. (as wuv said only a few bars were working on the old one) I lobbed a  leather cosworth 4x4 steering wheel on it so take that off, flog it and it should help to offset your costs.

Well said sir, you've summed it up well! Despite the rad issue this car proves that shite can be reliable, I was always confident it wouldn't let me down. I'd have it back but I've got my eye on other things, sorry.

I really, really wish I could save this as..

a) I LOVE Sierra's and B) I've never actually driven one (Yes, that's weird) but I have absolutely no place to store it and I couldn't pick it up from wherever it is at the moment. Properly gutted. I really hope someone does save it though.

I'd take it and promise it a waxoyl loving home but I've got no way of getting it back, any one with trade plates fancy a trip from daarn saarf up to cv10??

Posted

I really wish I could save this... Anyone wants a scruffy 740 estate with plenty of T&T ?

Thought not :-(

Experience suggests that if anywhere is a good place to sell an old Volvo estate, this is that where!  GLWTS; both you and Gary.

cortinadave check your pms on sierra owners club if you havnt already, someone has replied pm sent to the sierra estate

Posted

Yep there's been a couple of PMs about it on there.. I've just passed my login on to Gary so he can get back to them :)

Posted

PMs replied to, 2 on the Sierra forum and one on here. Fingers crossed! With only 1 day's tax left this is firmly on the endangered species list now... hope it pulls through...

I know its "just another" old sierra but it is so damn tidy and despite having owned 30 odd sierras I've never seen one with the rare optional 2008 stereo etc and the funky graphic equaliser.

Does it have air con too? That was a HUGE £ option back in the day and again ive never actually seen a car with it fitted.

I'd absolutely give it a home, and theres space on the drive.. but how the hell do you get a car from brighton to Fife with no ticket/ a broken screen and a dodgy radiator without it costing an absolute fortune?

So frustrating.

Posted

I'm pretty sure it has the air con hence the radiator problems, I really hope it doesn't end up getting bangered.

I was just reading that Sierra forum and my heart sank when i read about a mint F reg 29000 mile Sierra Auto having it's engine and box removed for a kit car project, some people just don't care.

Posted

It does have air con, as far as I know (and according to the brochure) air con was only an official option with a manual box. The air con doesn't work though obviously, but it might not be difficult to fix.

Posted

hopefully this will go to a loving home.

regarding that 29000 miler i hate it when good cars are used to make go carts

Posted

Yes it annoyed me too

Why cant i find them in that condition

Posted

Ive just bought a cvh auto off there because the bloke was going to scrap it friday if nobody else bought it ( out of tax and nowhere to park it )  ,

i fetched it yesterday and it drove the 130 od miles home fine   and its mot'd until October

If it wasnt for the 450 mile round trip with a trailer i would have bought this too

i was thinking about that cvh auto for the mrs when i first saw it pop on there but she wants something thats a bit more economical than my saph, im glad youve had it and not an omg banger racer

Posted

I tried to get the aircon regassed last August but the mechanic said the pipes were so corroded it may not stay in,and it needed different rerefrigerant to what he had. But a minor quibble when you think the rest of the car is so good.

It had half a tank of petrol in it too

thats great, saying that though if i had to get rid of my car, i would rather let it go as a bargain to an enthusiast than for full whack to a knobend id rather keep it, thats how we came to have the saph it was basically a if i dont like you, your not buying it kind of advert and the old boy admitted to us he was chuffed at the type of people we were and wouldnt have sold it to someone who wasnt an enthusiast.

A bump and a few pics from the autumn to give you an idea what a clean, straight old thing H97OWC is.......

FFS will someone buy this?!!!

I tried to get the aircon regassed last August but the mechanic said the pipes were so corroded it may not stay in,and it needed different rerefrigerant to what he had.

Chances are it's an R12 system, which needs different seals and compressor oil to the modern (legal!) R134a. But corroded pipes aside (which could be tested before filling anyway) it should be possible to get it filled with a suitable refrigerant. I'm using R462a (which is basiclly R134a with additives to make it compatible with old seals etc.) in a similar aged system, which has been fine for the last 8 years since regassing

But important things first..someone buy it!

THIS.

After today, I can't leave it on the street. And I have nowhere to put it.
