So the story goes like this........

Local chap died last week and left this car behind, a mate of mine bought it over the phone after being told it was a bmw 330. When he got there it obviously wasn't a 330 but a 528. Not wanting to upset the family anymore than they already are he took it even though he didn't want it.

So here it is.

2000 BMW 528i manual. 104k Taxed till the end of Jan, Mot'ed till middle of March. Has some scab on the outside of the cill and around one wheel arch. It needs a bloody good clean as it looks like an ashtray inside but smells alright. Drives lovely and goes like stink if you tell it to, reckon it would be wicked fun in the omgsnokaos 8) . cruise control/ac all the usual stuff and a bit of wood on the dash.

£500 ovno takes it. Located in Wells next the Sea.

piccies.....

Owning a car with the word "twat" scratched into it must be worth some good Autoshite points...

Looks fun though, as you say

^ Yes, but is it not a bit scene? That looks alright for the money actually and would make a good winter motor for someone who isn't as skint as me. GLWTS and that.

Are these particularly bad for rot? I don't see many with rust on.

Not sure what they are like for rot,  it would clean up nicely if someone can be bothered and it drives great. I was half tempted but the V8 is taking up a lot of my spare time and the merc still needs mot'ing so that's why I'm ooot.

Just had to edit the ad, it's actually a 2000 not a '99 doh.

That looks fab for the money.

Sadly not mate, and if it was I would book a couple of days down there at the same time, because Wells is  a lovely place. I don't know how active Gumtree is in that area but I'd suggest and advert on there but put the price at about £595/£650 ono and see what happens.

I was only joking about the offer mate :) Yeah I have put it on Gumtree funnily enough with an asking price of £650..great minds and all that.

Don't know much about their rust resistance or reliability, but I can confirm that E39s are lovely to drive and the 2.8l six-cylinder is smooth and very torquey ! And this comes from a confirmed BMW H8R.

if it's by the sea that might be a factor, joking aside.

If that was cleaned up and de-twatted it would be a nice motor.

Unlike a lot of big barges, there's bit of demand for these with the manual box too, since the auto likes to om-nom-nom its innards at distressingly low mileages and they're ideal OMGRWD drift fodder.

Posted

Didn't know that about the autobox. Oodles of car for not that much pound. GLWSI.

Few stories about them on the BMW forums, I think the cause was BMW's (or ZFs) insistence that the boxes were filled for life. A condition that may well have been met on something French but given BMWs tendencies to last into their second decade it proved too much for them.

A lot of BMW people suggest a fluid & filter change every 100k miles or so.

Posted

Yes defo TR1FT TRACK WEPON this thing. I've never seen wheel arch rot that bad on one of these but the fronts of the sills rot on all of them because they take a pounding from shite being thrown up from the road.

Posted

I've heard about the "filled for life" boxes too. I think it just translates as "pig to re-fill" from what I've heard.

Posted

They're not sealed for life infact BMW sell the filters for them The oil is really expensive though and can only get it from BMW. It was going to be something like 100 quid just for the oil on my shitey old 740i.

TBH I would be a bit wary of this one simply because it is looks the scabbiest one I have seen - they are'nt normally this bad. Has it spent considerable time by the sea? I would be looking to give it a prod and get underneath first.

My mate had a T reg example, the only corrosion was surface stuff down the edge of the drivers door that he had flashed in - nothing on the sills or arches - the body on these is generally better than the 3 series.

Posted

I've seen them far scabbier than that.

They can rust like fuck and the interiors aren't that hard-wearing compared to the older BMWs either, but mechanically that one should be OK at that mileage. It IS only a monkey after all, there's probably close to that in parts on it.

Posted

Rot info is interesting as I'd genuinely not seen many scabby ones about. Living by the sea won't help of course... My dad had a Rover 800 back in the mid 90s that was pretty scabby as it had come from Benbecula in the Outer Hebrides. At £500 it doesn't matter right enough, it's loads of car for the money.

Posted

Cheers guys, I agree it's got to be worth a monkey. The scabby rot does appear to be surface only, I know it went through it's last mot with no advisories so it can't have deteriorated that much in the last 7 months.

Benbecula is a different kettle of fish though, cars just crumble in the Hebrides. I used to work there back in the 90's.

I reckon if you put it on driftworks or something like that for 750 it would sell mega easy.

not a member on there I'm afraid.

I think you need 50 posts or something to sell something, so I am out in being able to post it up for you, sorry chap.

I would've been disappointed not seeing a 330 for sale as well, but would've done the same I think ...

It's sad seeing once used cars with all the artefacts of the now deceased person in it, you'd think they'd take the walking stick out.
