Shitefest Cymru - 16th-18th May 2014

I can provide details of a very pretty route that avoids Newtown. It does go through Kidderminster instead though...

Just noticed that there were TWO Vale Royal OMG NOT CHUMLEY meets this year, with a later one in August. Might be an option to head en masse to the later one if Welshitefest ends up being earlier in the year?

There has been discussion about the possibility of a Welsh Shitefest. Possibly to take place conveniently close to my house.

Now, I know it's a bloody long way for many people, so I'd be looking to make it at least a two-nighter - it's a lovely place for a holiday if you fancied making a proper holiday out of it.

But is it a stretch too far?

Is it common knowledge where exactly your digs are?

If yes I have to admit edookashiun phale.

Not as I thought when we moved here! Aber-ust-wuth seems about right, not Aber-ist-with as must people say. If you're lucky, I'll organise a drive through Ysbyty Ystwyth, Ysbyty Cynfyn and Pontrhydfendigaid.

What's this?  A shite meetup that isn't a 12 hour round trip?  I'm in.  I have family in Swansea too so can be even closer.  Plus by then I'll have rovershite to show off.

Datewise, need a couple of things to be confirmed. One is when non-Chumley is (not announced yet) and the other is when the venue is happy to host us. I'm looking at April or May and possibly not a bank holiday. While the extra day might be useful, it'll be mega-busy here being a bit of a touristy spot. That time of year will hopefully mean we'll be midge-free (not that they seemed very hungry in Yorkshire) though I make absolutely no promises at all about weather.

If you want to start considering just how many miles you've let yourselves in for, the postcode SY23 3JL may be useful.

Yeah. He can go and whinge about Vienna elsewhere. I have midge-repellent just in case he turns up.

332miles, 6hrs 2mins according to the satnav. According to geography that is two countries away. According to fact that is 664 miles, a full 116 miles less than Shitefest 2012.

What were people saying about too far away... ?

Correct.

I know time is money, and fuel is as dear here as anywhere, but we really do live in a small country. Honestly, SY23 isn't too far from anyone here.

5 hours from me, it's literally coast to coast on the widest part of the country but having spent a week in the same part of Wales in the spring of this year I'd happily go back again, it's a stunning area and well worth visiting, if I still have it I can't why the Acclaim wouldn't make it either.

Venue confirmed! Not fixed a date yet, but the venue is on board. It's the Hafod Hotel, where Six-Cylinder and his chums often stay. They've a field out back which should be suitable for our needs, and a huge rear car park that no-one uses. Currently has a Series 3 Landy and a Daewoo Leganza sitting neglected upon it. Perfect!

Also pleased to confirm that the facilities will be far superior to Shitefest '13. We'll have running water and, er, ok, that's it. No sheep poo though! We may be able to have a bonfire. No Xsara Picassos allowed. Sorry, only wood to be burned.

Could do with some feedback on dates. April or May are the months I'm considering. Not bank holidays.

I'm sorry, as much as I'd like to come to one of these the distance is just too great for the type of cars I drive and would just cost too much in fuel and food. I came to the Stondon meet, but Wales, Wiltshire and North Yorkshire are just too far. When, and if, one of these meets comes to the South East I will certainly hope to be there.

Anyway I digress. Plans look good, and I hope those of you who go enjoy yourselves.

No toilet?

I get very grumpy without a proper dump in the morning.

I can't do May 23/24/25

I've travelled from Yorkshire to Canterbury, and vice versa, using the following vehicles over the years:

1982 Cortina 2.0 Ghia

1989 Ford Fiesta 1.1

1984 Suzuki GS650 Katana

1984 Suzuki DR500 (actually started the journey in Bavaria but passed through Canterbury on the way for a sheesh at the Westgate Kebab House)

1979 Honda CB 250N "Superdream"

1990 Yamaha XJ900F

1983 VW LT 28 minibus / camper

So quit your jibber-jabber about the type of cars you drive, fool, and git yo' ass to Shitefest '14.

Is that the massive car park off the B4574, Ian? Up the hill slightly & off to one side of the hotel? If so, it looks ideal.

We can bring some sheep poo from Yorks if required, although I find it hard to believe that there's a shortage in Wales...

Posted

Yeah, I can't really sympathise about the 'mileage' card. Having driven a 602cc 2CV to events as far flung as the Scottish borders, Cornwall, Belgium, Switzerland and many parts of France. I even once did a drive in the 2CV from Cambs to North Yorkshire and back in a day.

I can sympathise with the cost though, but these things can be saved for.

That's the one John. No shortage of sheep poo in the area, but this field isn't used for sheep. Does get occasional horse use mind...

I'm going to suggest May 17-19th and see how many think that works.

You mean 16th - 18th May?

I've stuck that in my diary*

(* = scrawled it on a pice of paper that I'll have lost by the end of the day)

*Checks calendar again

Yes, I do mean 16th-18th May! Hope this much notice means folks haven't already made holiday plans or whatever.

What cms206 says. SY23 3JL is not far away. A mere 300 odd miles. It will be the 960 that attends the Welsh shitefest seeing as I got it from Cardiffshire boy-o!

In Other News...
May could be better for me

Posted

I should be able to wangle at least part of that weekend, it avoids the very busiest time for tourists.

What did we decide about the Chumley thing? Is Billy hoping to get us together for that again?

It's usually about the second Sunday in May.

Posted

Done.  I'm in.  Nice one.

Any weekend in April or May is as good as any other for me at the mo, for what it's worth.

Have we got dates for Chumley next year or is it a bit early for that?
