Cripes! What have I done now?

I think realistically, I'll have to strip the box and check the clutch out; the cable is broken at the clutch end and the kick start is missing, so I wonder if there was an issue there before it's lay up...

Have you tried giving it a quick wipe with an oily rag?

Most barn finds will be as good as new afterwards.

You my friend are a winnar, that is miserably excellent, I like it

Ok so I should probably update this to save getting a big ol' backlog on the go before I even get started...

Day 2; I managed to get the tool box open, sadly no treasure was present...

First up for the strip down is the front end, the forks are fairly solid, but that's about it unfortunately...

After a bit of a wrestle, she's up on the centre stand and the remains of the front wheel can be released...

I decided to remove the wiring loom next, as it all terminates in the headlamp unit:

The bottom of the headlamp bowl has seen better days, I'm hoping to be able to repair it though, as the only replacement ones I have found are for later bikes with the ammeter fitted.

She's starting to look nekkid!

I started freeing off all the levers on the handlebars, but I think the throttle has had it...

The basis of the front suspension is a selection of rubber bands, all of which have perished...

This will need to be freed up and stripped, I'm hoping I can get a new wheel build around it!

The comfy seat:

Today I have finished the bulk of the front end strip down, I'll post up pics of the bare front end tomorrow...

Fab little bike. I got hold of a Mobylette AV89 but never got round to doing anything with it much to my shame. It should be heading over to Dave's place around the end of the month.

Good to see some 2 wheeled threads.

I am no expert but that piston seems to have a little marking on it.

I am no expert but that piston seems to resemble an old oil drum that has been in the sea for twenty years.

EFA.

What's the compression like?

Compression? Hah! rather too good if anything, to remove the piston took pullers, pushers, acetylene torches, sledge hammers, air chisels and lots and lots of swearing.

Proper swearing I bet, ..... like effin & jeffin an all that??

That is simply bloody wonderfully amazingly excellent. If you were nearer I would be over there like a shot helping out. Fabulous!!!!!!

It has taken hours just to remove that knackered piston, way beyond the effin' and jeffin and right along to calling it all the c**ts under the sun.

I have located a replacement barrel which will need a rebore, and I can get a NOS piston, so who knows, perhaps it'll ride again?

Bloody hell, well done! More power to your elbow, old bean.

This not an opportunity to fit a new fangled modern engine to the frame, and have patina with reliability*?

Obvious choice would be an aprillia 125 of some sort-purely for reliability, comfort and quietness of course..

If I did that, it'd be one of those single cylinder diesel engines, then I'd go everywhere in top at 120mpg.
