An epic 113 mile (round trip) collection thread will follow.

Anyone have any experience of these steeds. I cant seem to find any mention of any drawbacks to them while smurfing the interwebs.

Indeed.

Previously alias was VND.

Now deeper undercover.

Toot if you spot me pootling around.

From what I recall of my dad's company car example, and the few I dealt with in my trade days...they are (imo) the blandest car ever made.

That's not as much of a criticism as you'd think; if you just want a car, they're fantastic for that. Reliable, fairly economical, easy to live with...yep. Never going to set your pants aflame, right enough, but for pootling about, they're just...acceptable.

From memory, the front wings, rear arches, back end of the sills, and the boot floor on the saloon, are the rot spots, but if it's survived this long it shouldn't hold too many nasties.

Top purchase, sir. Enjoy, although that's not the name of the game...

Bland.

I'll try not to get too exited then.

Maybe cancel that nurse I had booked in case of critical exitement overload.

People say Bland about lots of cars. I've never thought of it as a critisism.

Exiting usually = steam, oil on the ground and hard shoulder swearing lolathons.

bland car from a bland place

since the hellfire club ceased in the 1780s skelton has become a very bland place, apart from the drift mine I built just up the road

Great cars, reliable - if a little* boring.

Fwd is not good for drifting mine.

They're not going to set the world alight but they do have a certain charm to them, it's sort of hard to put your finger on it really. If you give them some welly they can shift a bit too.

This is good news. I do have one welly.

Used to see tons of the hatchback versions around here (darn sarf). Saloon has always bit a bit of a relative novelty as far as I can recall though.

Enjoy it.

Im sure I will. I too have seen a load of hatches, but seldom a 'loon.

Rare value!

I learnt to drive in one of these. IIRC it was the 'sporty' model though.

It does actually look quite nice doesn't it.

Golden Sunny Delight. Nice buy! :)

Sunny delight.

How did I miss that pun?

Well played man. I'm gonna use that.

Jeremy Clarkson likes them. Honest.

Still dropping in on me, after collection?*

I need to see this machine in the metal** DATs sweet, SON.

I can pull mine out of the garage, for added 'are those two fucking peniless or what?' passer-by musings.

*Kettle on/cold alcohol avilable

Probs not man.

SWINO has decided that we will be stopping at the mother in laws for a cooked meal, gossip, cups of tea, and possibly suicide on the way back.

If not, I'll roll down during the week for a sit in the Escort. Holidays all week. Bring on the torrential rain!

Actually, she'll have her own car with her, so I can eff off whenever I want.

These days I am accused of being a Ford boy, but Nissan is still my marque of choice, and always will be.

Me dad had an N13 GTi, complete with roo-bars, in Oz. I loved that car.

I once burned my finger tip, intentionally, with the cigarette lighter. I then claimed I had put my hand down the side of the seat and it just happened.

I think he bought it.

That's rather nice, they did used to be boring but I think they're old enough to be developing some character now, it'll certainly stand out among a car park full of moderns.  Ok, so not the most exciting set of cars in the world but the late eighties Nissan range (think Micra, Sunny, Bluebird) seems like the ideal set of choices for older cars in many ways; cheap as chips, pretty reliable, not massively prone to rust.  What's not to like?

Posted

I thought you had bought my old one - the white three door hatchback on RR! GR∞ car!

Posted

I stared at that one for a long time when RR fella David had it for sale? (If its the same one)

Was never drunk enough to commit though.

Yes, that's me! Carb gave me trouble, but think I sorted it in the end. Dashboard illumination is excellent, and interior is proper comfy, well-built Japanese spec. I would have another one, but not at the moment. It took 6 months to sell that one.

Posted

I'm glad there is another dashboard illumination perv here - always an important factor for me in car choosing!

Posted

I was baffled at the low amount of interest that car generated man. It was solid, clean (bar the tip-ex), taxed and tested and being virtually given away.

It took great restraint to continually not buy it.

Posted

Love it. Strangely I used to hate these cars, along with Bluebirds because they seemed so bland - but these days they actually look different to the euro boxes and have a quirky appeal.

Funny how time can change your view on things

Posted

They're great, the ride is superb. I never liked them either, especially Bluebirds, but would love to have a Bluebird soon.

Think LankTim has a spare one?

I passed a two tone G-reg saloon only yesterday. Always thought them quite handsome things and surprisingly brisk.
