It's our wedding anniversary on the 11th so I'm probably out. If I say I'm going it'll be "fine" but I won't know whether that's good fine or bad fine until it's too late.

Rubbish! I'm likely to be holidaying in Mexico/Venezuela then. Although my tickets are flexible in theory- I shall see whether there is any possibility of changing them.

I'm in. From memory thats a long weekend for me too so even better. I think Twobricks Fowler could be persuaded down as well...

I probably gatecrash this for a day, it's only 35 miles from me.

Why don't you suggest a nice romantic weekend away, I hear the Yorkshire dales are nice.

What could be more romantic than a scenic drive around the Yorkshire Dales in the back of a classic car?

Well, ok, a battered Land Rover Discovery held together with tin foil and hope.

I might actually be able to make this.  I have the week of 16-20 Sep off work so won't be in any hurry to get home, and I've been meaning to have a drive up north for ages now.

thats goodwood revival weekend

im out

Surely there's no comparison? One event features old beauties gathered in a lovely location, the other is the Goodwood Revival. I bet Shitefest has fewer crowds (that's a good thing!).

Goodwood revival... Wonder if the Bristol and Armstrong Siddeley lots are going to that...

Posted

Alas I will be a long, long way away when this comes round, shame as I ended up missing the last gathering in April too!

The right crowd and no crowding!

Will my Nippa work well in the mud with knobbly ATV 4x110 PCD wheels (the only other wheels that go on these flipping hubs)!

After looking at the photos of Shitefest before I joined, I was hoping to join you all for camping at Shitefest this year. Malham is not too far from me, but unfortunately I have a road run planned for Sunday morning, which rules out me camping on Saturday night, but I may still pop over to the camping field for a couple of hours on Saturday.

I can probably point you in the right direction for a museum trip though. Bradford Industrial Museum has a nice little collection of Jowett and Bradford vehicles on display. Entry into the museum is free, and I’m sure that if there isn’t a planned event on that weekend, that display parking inside the grounds of Autoshite chod could be probably be arranged.

On the Sunday morning I do know that the A65 will be full of old chod for shitters to look out for. The A65 near Malham is part of the 65 mile route of the 25th Bradford to Morecambe classic vehicle run. I think we will be leaving Bradford at 9 am, and will be arriving on the prom next to the Midland Hotel from around 10.30 am onwards.

Morecambe usually has an air display in the afternoon, and the weather on this weekend is traditionally hot and sunny. The air display moves over to do another display over Blackpool Tower and another classic car show at Lytham St Annes, before landing at Blackpool Airport for tea.

If you are interested, I can post the full route details up when I receive them from the event organiser. On street parking next to where we will be parked on the prom is free, as is entry to the show on the prom.

pics of this asap!!!!!!

Agreed - the lanes we'll probably end up doing will NOT be suitable for cars, not even 4x4 ones. There's likely to be rocks and ruts, maybe even a stream or two.

Posted

I accidentally found myself walking part of the "lane" at Grinton from that video of the Ssangyong Musso I posed earlier in this thread...

Was like De Ja Vous but I didn't know why then I remembered the Musso.

Glad to hear ones been pencilled in. Unfortunately it falls on a goodwood revival/ euro trip in the jag which has been on the cards for a few months. I missed out on the Betaboys shitefest 2012 too, as i was picking up a terminal e bay purchase.

Really hope i can make the next one, wherever it is

Come on you South-East lot - get a car-share going, share fuel costs etc, keep each other awake. Take a leaf from the Scotshite book, they know how to do it.

Lack of 4x4 is irrelevant, you may still attend!

Yep... there'll be plenty of spaces in 4x4s for anyone that wants to come along for the drive, or other activities for anyone that thinks a kitten* dies whenever a vehicle's tyre leaves the tarmac :-)

Hey, I could get to this and go off roading in Volksy's 205 CTi? Alternatively I can just get really drunk, dress up in a load of John Deere clothing and roll around on your bonnets? Hows that sound?

If anyone's gonna vomit, they will be better off in JohnF's motor than mine

Shitefest 2013 is ON!

Showers are not available though, perhaps we can sort something out with the Youth Hostel? Any thoughts on that, Joe?

I have spoken to MrsB who is in charge of bookings for the village hall in KIRKBY MALHAM (next village, 20 mins walk or 2 mins in the car). It is free that weekend. There are two electric showers in cubicles upstairs that we can use. If we do that, I've agreed that I'll ask you to drop a pound or two in a jar each visit to cover the leccy/water bill. You'd better not shit it up ya bastards, I'll be the one cleaning it after you!

There's a pub across the road. I thought we could all trek down there, each with towel, soap and fresh keks in LIDL bags, and have a pint while we popped over the road two at a time to shower.

Or we could just head down in a car two or four at a time.

John, there are also facilities available there for cooking/dining. I know you're geared up for doing it in the field, but the option's there, especially if the weather's foul. We'd have to re-negotiate the donation of course.

I've also called MrsS again to let her know our preferred dates. (MrsS is the Chairman of the Malham Show-field Committee.) A small donation for use of the field would be appreciated. A fiver per car would be my suggestion? She's happy with our intentions and will email MrP, the farmer who grazes the field on an informal basis when it's not needed for owt else.

Bring it on!

Posted

I believe the 13th is a Friday which means I'll be doing taxi duty for my aunt's 50th but the Saturday/Sunday I'll be bringing a council estate to the countryside.

GAME ON!
