my uncle has owned the car since it was three years old. its a 2.0 auto estate in silver. he has bought a new car and wants shut. he has offered it me for scrap value. im unsure if to buy it to sell on or keep it for myself or just walk away. he owned it for over ten years. its got a wheel trim missing and a leaky rocker cover and that's about it. traction control and air con too. all this for the grand sum of 180 quid which is what the local breakers offered him. it has ticket till February. over to you knowledgable guys for an opinion please

Yep, it'll be worth it if it drives  ok. Look at this way, if you run it round until the test expires and it wanted a shit load of work for the next one it wouldn't owe you a penny. The estate ones are fairly desirable* and quite a useful tool. If you don't take it offer it up on here!

*Vectra B and desirable=madness. I just meant compared to Vectra saloons and hatches which aren't desirable.

If it's lasted this long then I would say go for it, what have you got to lose for £180 and the cost of a rocker gasket.

I know what my uncle is like and if it had been problematic for him it would have been sold by now. he has just come in to a little bit of cash so not interested in fannying around with buyers and the dealer he bought is new car from offered him 50 quid! been regularly serviced even though its not got samps in book,my uncle never bothered getting it stamped

I ran a 2.0 V plate Vectra for 4 years and it served me very well. Pulled like a train and was great on the motorway.

The rocker cover gaskets are difficult to get sealed properly and even a good one will only last for so long. "They all do that Sir".

If it starts, goes and stops, has a few months ticket and doesn't look like something that'll get you the jail, all for £180, bite his hand off.

Any car with an MOT for scrap money is worth it, even s V****all ... As Wat says drive it until something breaks or the test runs out then get your money back over the bridge.

Sell it to that knobhead on here who likes them. But a bit cheaper as he's a right brass hinge.

im trying to convince the mrs we need two large cars at the moment! we already have a Vectra c 1.8 hatch back. my argument is the estate be better for the dog 8)  .

what knobhead here? im still not up on the in jokes as it where. blue allegro got me confused too!

It's tested for eight months, its £180 which is exactly what you'd get if you scrapped it and you're asking advice!!!!

FFS buy it and use it till it fails an mot big time and then scrap it for the price you paid for it.

It really is a no brainer. I despair at the youth of today.

I think Mr. Cavette may have been referring to himself, as he is a renown serial Vau***ll fetishist.

I don't know why you are even thinking twice about it. £180 is bugger all for a car with eight months ticket. Buy it, stick some for sale signs in the window @ £495 and run around in it. As said if it implodes you'll get your £180 back over the bridge, or some painter and decorator may snap your hand off for £495.....

Win win!

It's an estate so just park it outside the local Dulux Decorators Centre with a for sale advert in.

He's not alone.

I like Vectras. I have owned Vectras. I drove them. In public.

The same with Fronterrors. My daily is a Fronterror.

Help me.

Is there anyone near me (North or West of London) who owns a Vectra B ?

Its worth having at that money - although they're not great in my experience. I've had 2 and one blew its gearbox and the other needed an expensive head gasket job then ended its days in a sea of flames after the air con unit started a fire the very next day.

I did actually quite like them when I owned them and they worked but with that experience behind me I wouldnt buy another.

THAT SAID at £180 you're under scrap money. if it starts, stops and drives then take it. You cant lose. Plod about in it until it fails in some way or the test runs out then weigh in for profit. Result.
