I don't see the problem with it if it doesn't cost anything.

It could be a good way for new-ish posters to test the water for new thread ideas, as oppose to people starting threads only for them getting told, four or five posts in, a nigh on identical thread already exists.

I know the 'stupid question amnesty' thread could fulfil this remit but it would be quicker to use chat and would lessen the effect of the more popular threads being knocked off the front page by duplicates.

What's the point of helping someone by typing some chat comment to a question that will be lost forever, so the same advice can't help someone else in the future?
