Just trying something

I am trying a different way of registering,As well as Captcha,we have a simple question and answer.

Also new members will no longer have to be validated by staff, but all their posts will need to be validated until they have made 5 posts.

This should hopefully stop spam.

Also Board is now totally backed up every 6 hours to a seperate server,so if ever there are any problems we are can only lose maximum of 6 hours content.

Hopefully will never be needed but.....

I just tried something too.  I tried the 'like' button.

Sounds good Daveb!

Me too. :)

I hope the question is something to do with a Yugo Sana.

up to you mate but that sounds like a lot more work. 5 times more work as you only check the ID once. In 5 or 6 years I had one spammer in my forum.

You've seen how many we get on here, though.

Bear in mind Dave's been testing the PM system so if any of the 10,000+ dormant spammers have received a PM from the forum it might just have sparked them into action.

yeah and at the worst on mine I deleted 60 a day! Thats like deleting 300 accounts....

edits not working. Wouldnt it be better to look back through the old accounts? Looks like its the old members jot the new that are at fault

oh and you hit post, the text dissappears and you think its gone. so you do it again. Then you end up with 2 posts. I am really hating V5 as its causing problems on my own forum. Wanna go back to phpBB3 now...

Posted

I think you must have a problem with your pc Fred.

What browser are you using??

Posted

no problem when l am on the PC but various problems with V5 on the phone. Bit of a git cos l mostly use the phone these days. Particularly annoying as l didnt make any of the changes. I have been 'upgraded' on my own forum and cant even start a new thread cos the phone wont bring up the keyboard to write text. Its fine on phpBB3 on the other forums. I run Opera mini and its a Nokia C3 on O2

There should be one internet for real computers and another for i-things....

I thought you said it was going on V Buletin? All the same, is there some reason the forum skids about all over the place now? seriously its hard to stop theveiw where I want it. Wheel cyl gone?

Oh it seems the edit is OK now...

I've not had any phone issues either. It's true that there's no Edit option, and it's also true that I can't see any hint of a 'skin' on my phone (BlackBerry).

I'm using my tablet thingy on the normal displayed forum, I'm not using 'tapatalk' or whatever its called and have no problems. The 'edit' button seems fine but isn't obvious like 'quote' button.

What's the difference between "members" and "full members", dave?

Simply that all newly registered members are "New Members & all their posts have to be approved by staff before they are visible to everyone.

After 5 approved posts they become "Full Members" with no restrictions.

Any value in sacking off the huge number of registered members with strange usernames and no posts to their name, Dave? Looks like a large amount have signed up in the last few months with names like 0272vy*8cj or whatever, pretty sure they're just going to be spam to be honest.

Posted

Just letting things settle at moment,if they havnt posted in a few weeks they will be toast.

Gives them time to post if they are genuine however unlikely.

If their first post is spam they get deleted anyway,it doesnt appear on forum except to staff who can decide if its spam or not.

Ahh, that explains it. Although I've just seen a "Full Member" with only 2 posts...

It's working fine for me on Opera Mini.

Edit- and I can edit fine. I did have to select 'full version' on the board, Opera Mini doesn't need mobile versions of websites.

The new system to trap spammers is working a treat. I managed to bin one before and hopefully it never made the front page, nice one Dave,
