Would anyone be interested in a Maestro VDP project??

There's an oldish chap that comes in my shop now and again, today he came in and we got talking about old motors and he mentioned that he has an A reg metallic red? (burgundy maybe?) Maestro Vanden Plas in his garage.

The car belonged to his father who died 10 years ago, and its been in the garage laid up since then.

Its a one owner car, not sure of the mileage but he tells me the bodywork is in good condition and it was running when parked up.

He doesnt want to see it scrapped and wants someone to buy it who can restore it. He doesnt know how much he wants for it, probably better for anyone interested to go and have a look and make him an offer. Ill try and go down myself sometime if I get a chance and get some pics.

Let me know if this is your kind of thing and I can put you in touch with him.

Hey it might even have the R-series engine which I am a big fan of.

Go for it, Mr B! 8) And don't come back without it, neither. We like photos, remember....... Seriously, if that's survived storage it'll be a great find, let's have it in the AS family, please!

When I see him next Ill see if I can go around and grab a few pics.

This would be a pretty neat save.... not that I'm the person to do it, but fingers crossed it just needs a bit of recommissioning and it'll make a nice daily classic for someone. So this would have the ROBODASH right? An old mate had one of them, his last memory was it bleating something about oil pressure as the front end lay in the middle of a demolished dry stone wall.

A reg metallic red

That'll be Oporto Red. Skizzer Senior bought a 1.3L that colour and vintage from new: loads of miserable brown plastic inside. Magical.

I'm not the person to restore this one, but I'll admire it when someone else does. G'wan Mr B, you know you want to.

The world definitely needs more talking BL tat, someone please do the right thing and save this one!

A reg would a be a 'miracle' Maestro too. They went from the R to the S series in July '84 so just before the B plate. Both R and S motors are 1598cc annoyingly so DVLA would be triple useless. Whilst the S Series is GR8 4 pissing oil out and random Leylanditis, the R Series Maxi style unit is added points.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the talking computer was dropped with the advent of the S Series.

Incorrect. Dropped midway through 85MY.

Would that the damn thing was like Norman Collier...

"Motorüberhitzung" after driving two tenth of a mile from a cold start on a freezing day, plus "les freins exigent le service" on a regular basis, gets rather wearing - especially as both are definitely erroneous (I have checked!)...

Winding the window down and listening to the Webers soon restores respect for the driving experience though (as does pressing the 'restrict' button *ahem*) 8) !
