MK1 Fiesta XR2 query

Hi folks - havenae been on here fer yonks (spare ye the details, but life has become heinous once again....), but my mate at work has managed to bag himself a nearly mint MK1 XR2 for a nice price.

Some twunt has of course fitted a stupid dvd head unit jobby in the dash, but neither of us could remember which Ford head unit would have come standard with it?

Also obviously if someone has one knocking around for sale - that would be great too, but just a photo would be good fer now!

Also on his want list is a standard parcel shelf for the same (6x9 cut-outs = ruination!).

Hellos to y'all anyway.

PS, have managed to completely fix the 405's heater problems now, by simply harnessing the power of the sun. Best bodge ever.

Over and out.

What year is the XR2?

I think it had a twiddly knob radio and I can't remember if it had a cassette player or not, but I don't think it did. It may not even have had a radio at all, come to think of it, unless you specified one as an option. I seem to remember there was a grey plastic blanking plate that went over the head unit slot if it didn't have a radio.

It's got to be easier to find a period head unit like an old Blaupunkt or something, surely? You want a fixed one that pre-dates the pull-outs or anything where the fascia comes off imo, and it should fit straight in the original hole.

6x9 cut-outs in an acoustic shelf came as standard on early 80's XR2's in the 90's. Empty holes, of course, because the speakers had been stolen.

It's a 1982 Mr Volks. I believe he's in the market for a lime green shellsuit and a fat bird too. Sorry havenae been in touch fer a while btw, will amend soon...

Mine had that bottom sterio in it but did not have cut outs in the parcel shelf, it had dash speaker and rear panel speakers

That's great Trig, cheers. How's the blue love machine going?

Yep, P21 radio should be standard fit and RST21P as an extra cost option.

Neither will now fit as they will have cut out a big rectangle in the centre console to fit a DIN type radio. :)
