This is the wife's "new" daily shite. I'd love to say it was an epic journey to pick it up, and indeed it was a strenuous walk to the end of my road to collect it. The wife's Corsa had been declared a write off thanks to some twat who couldn't park. All just before we were due to go away on holiday. We were supposed to go away on the Thursday, and thanks to the lack of communication from the third party's insurance company we didn't know when the car would be picked up. Finally, they contacted 'Er Indoors on the Monday to say that they were going to collect the Corsa on Tuesday. Great, were supposed to be away Thursday.

So, not really wanting to hire some miserable brand new Korean thing, me and the wife spotted this Rover 25 1.6 at the end of our road on Tuesday evening. She liked the look of it but has heard me prattling on about the K Series many times and she asked "Are these the things that blow up every day?" I told her yes. She then said if we knock the asking price down, it won't be much dearer than hiring the aforementioned Korean misery and if it drives alright and if it lasts the journey up there then fine, if we don't like it we can sell when we get back or if it breaks we can bin it and get something else. So Wednesday after work we went around to have a look, it was being sold by a trader who I've sold a few cars to in the past. We found a packed lever arch file of service history, the OMGHGF already repaired with modified gaskets and bits, timing belt , 8 months MOT and drove nicely, no clonks, rattles, strange noises. So for not much more than it would have cost to hire a car for a week and a half, we bought a K Series Rover! WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG?!

As it happens, we covered just over 1200 fault free, comfortable miles in just over a week. It got me, the wife and our son and a load of toddler related stuff to our destination and back. The engine performs well, the interior is in good nick, it drives and handles well and is comfortable. It does have a few issues, the clutch bite is a bit high, the rear washer doesn't work, one of the heater sliders is broken and the central locking is a bit temperamental. My biggest gripe though is one of the three previous owners has decided to fit these hideous well phit az fuck rear lites innit. On the plus side, one of the three previous owners has fitted a centrally mounted, single electrics parking sensor.

My son honestly thought those back lights were standard fitment on these and the MG versions!

It looks a nice, straight car and I bet it'll be great, despite what any INTERNET WAR MONGERS OF DOOM will tell you.

Haha! I hate the lights but SWMBO likes them so they're staying put :|

There's not much wrong with these if kept maintained. Most of the HGF on the K Series I've seen is due to lack of maintenance.

I think one of those back lights should have an "accident".

I like those wheels, would like a set for my van. When the head gasket goes maybe give me a shout? etc etc.

Sweet as, I've driven a few of these and they really are nice, I wouldn't kick one out of bed and so on... those rear lights need to be binned though, quickly.funnily enough I have a set of those somewhere, but the Silvery bits on yours are a sort of dark Green on mine.

There are loads of these still around the Midlands.

Will be funny if/when it does go pop....

I ran mine trouble free for years...then the head gasket went. What a great little car with plenty of zip. :D

Funnily enough I've just done exactly the same!

My Astra died a week or two ago - injector pump issues...

According to the recovery drivers and new cars threads, these have about the same chance of HGF as a new Golf has of losing the clutch pedal or a Vauxhall alternator going. But cost a fiftieth of the price. Cannot see how you could fail now it's done the holiday!

Seems like a Roverdose on here lately. I count 4 since Friday :)

Haha, she's quite handy with a set of spanners too. She at least knows where the correct fluids go and how to change the wheel, as well as how to change oil, spark plugs and other serviceable items. She's also said if those lights have an accident, I'll have a permanent accident. Bless her...

If it goes pop, we'll bin it. Or, because in Cornwall it's largely retired giffer land, there's so many of these about as these were the car of choice for coffin dodgers that there's plenty of spares. For the moment, though, it's just a pleasant likeable piece of shite :D

They only go pop if you pootle along - thrash the bollocks off them, no bother. I did 70k in three years with no worries.
