The car in front is a Toyota. Notice how quickly they dropped that slogan when they realised it was true.

I'm always reminded of a classic piece of Murray Walker commentary during a BTCC a few years ago; following a prang when an Avensis overturned "The car upside down is a Toyota!" Cav, it was during Raiders Of The Lost Ark, some arab is gearing up for an epic fight with Indy, performing dazzling swinging movements with his samurai sword, when Indy pauses for a second, whips out his pistol & shoots him dead! It's a classic moment! :D

Dreamed up at a time when the car in front was invariably a Volvo 340 :)

I'm surprised certain other manufacturers, namely German, didn't take up a variation on that theme...."The car behind is a BMW", "The car behind is a Mercedes"......

A 340 could be driven quite quickly if you were brave/deaf/profligate enough - the fuel economy suffered terribly if they were caned. The handling would never cause alarm either if you put some 360 GLT alloys and sticky tyres on as well :D

Very often the car in front is a Toyota with catatonic driver and the car behind is an Audi with apoplectic driver.

More like "the car that has just cut you up and even now is anchoring on without indicating to turn right into that side street is a BMW"

Not as snappy though.

Hey, I've never really had problems with BMW drivers. However driving an E36 316i turned me into a w - anchor - probably because it was so woefully gutless I had to drive aggressively to get anything out of it.Drivers of TDi Volkswagens and Audis seem to be the worst for tailgaiting and twattery on the motorway.

It was actually a Corolla, driven by Will Hoy(RIP).The worst thing was,it was his team-mate who hit him & turned him over

Correct, twas Julian Bailey piloting the other one.Agree that most repwankers on the road these days are in soot-belching Passat and A4 2.0TDIs. I'd like to ram their TomToms where the sun don't shine.

Or maybe even a Carina E I think you'll find..... :)I couldn't find a clip on youtube but did find this one of Mark Blundell at Silverstone in 1993.....lucky man.

1993 saw much change at Toyota. TOMs (GB) took over the running of the team from ARE. Gone too was the old shape Carina, replaced by the new UK built Carina E Gti. Ex-Grand Prix driver Julian Bailey who had finished '92 with the team took the number two driver slot. Both drivers scored consistently, achieving regular top five slots, but the podium visits were something of a rarity. The pair were looking to secure a 1 - 2 finish in the Grand Prix support race at Silverstone when Bailey attacked Hoy for the lead, resulting in Hoy's car ending up on it's roof.

I actually did not know Will Hoy had died... RIP.

Why is it people change the way they drive when they change what they drive? Surely it's down to your own personality / mentality (and competence helps) as to whether you choose to drive well or badly, so why should that change when you pilot something different? Do all the knob heads out there suddenly drive considerately if they got out of their Audi & into a Kia?

The only cars that have ever undertaken me to my knowledge have all been German, coincidence? Why is it they're all driven so aggressively? They give you 2 seconds to move out of their way & if you don't they just go round you like you're not even there, it's very infuriating & quite humiliating because they just do what they like & they always get away with it because they rule the road.....

Dont ask me why - but thats the way it is - put me in a car and I drive all sensible, squeeze me into a set of leathers and I go a bit weird.

That's quite a confession from a priest! I wouldn't say you drove your Cortina particularly sensibly!I quoted you but it was a general question to / about society really

i've gone from driving my Aunts old Seicento, to a Volvo XC90. I think i still drive the same, although other drivers seem very surprised when i'm courteous!

People tend to seem quite shocked it I let them out of sideroads, etc when I'm driving my manky old Transit...

The big SUV thing? Wow that's quite a step up (in more ways than one!).

I used to drive my Honda CRX and the Fiat 127 on near as dammit alternate days. The Honda being little, fast , low slung and high revving almost goaded you to drive it with a glint in the eye, whereas the 127 was painfully slow in comparison. It just wanted to bowl along steadily, although it could be entertaining when pushed on those 135 profile tyres  . Likewise, the GS and CX just wafted along, and I rarely felt the urge to BURN TARMAC. The Alfasud was a different proposition, as Vin on these pages can testify :oops::oops:

does that line still apply....where is he these days? :?:

Its only a temporary measure for a couple of months whilst i move house 26 times (long story). However, despite my initial reservations about it, I really like it. Its a D5 Diesel Auto, and its fast, capable and comfortable. Can fit 3 kids and 3 adults in comfort, along with enough boot space for buggies/baby crapShame they cost £35k really...

I know, anybody would think they were German! Have Volvos always been so pricey?

Volvo's were always more expensive than say - a Ford, but you get what you pay for.Funnily enough I priced up an Audi Q7, and for the same spec as the volvo, you were looking at well over £45k

no sorry mate the car owns me more then that i might just put a mot on it at the end of the month but i am looking for a 125cc bike

I'd put a test on it mucker, it's not going to be worth a great deal without one. Full MOT, stick it in Auto Trader (eBay complete waste of time now) and have it a fair price and it should sell very quickly. You might strike lucky on http://www.swapz.co.uk/ (free to join) as someone will probably have a bike and want to do a swap with you. You'll need the patience of a saint to wade through the text typing morons (and people who'll offer you a siezed up incomplete Chinese scooter as a swap for something worth ten times as much) but it's usually worth the effort on there.
