Then and Now

Visiting the parents this Christmas and decided that, despite the rain, we should do our best to recreate a photo found of three decades prior.

Same house, same car, same people, same red coat my old man's wearing. I couldn't find a red bobble hat or a black coat to wear, in spite of trying to find a red hat anywhere (all hats, like the new cars here are black, grey, green or blue)

Funny to see. I've grown a bit since then.

I love stuff like this !!!

BTW, it's good to see he's got round to getting that front hedge into shape :)

That's excellent! I love it! Has your dad got smaller?!

Looks like it from the picture, doesn't it? I just noticed that. Trick of the lens, I think!

That's brilliant! I did a similar thing with my cousin years ago, though I can't find the original photo.

thats just brilliant! Wish I could do that but lots of my pics have dogs in em that are long gone.

No, the original one bit the dust a few years ago now, but the one I used is of the same vintage- it's been in the kitchen used for mopping since then :D

Thats a great thing to even think of doing in this day and age of something that's 37 minutes old being 'vintage'/ old / past it.

Wish my Dad was about still.

Excellent. How many of us get to do that? I only know of one car that has survived from my childhood - a Morris Minor 1000 Convertible that my aunt used to own. It was pure Autoshite back in the 1980s, finished in grey primer and rust. Sadly it's all shiny now.

^^^ I do like that and for a while I have been meaning to do something similar with this:-

School Lane Freckleton 1974 by Micrashed, on Flickr

I very nearly set off today to try and recreate this scene from June 1974, but dont own a blue Parka, or white socks or sandals any more. Oh and Im not blond either these days - sort of grey to balding....

I might yet still have crack this summer, though christ only knows where Im going to source the Ford from, the bloke who lives there is pushing 90 and drives a Focus now....

My stepson lives in the house I grew up in, and I certainly have photos of cars parked in the driveway in the early 80s. The driveway's changed a bit!

I'd like to do something similar, take a few random 80/90s shite cars and try and recreate 90s photos in random places..

Brilliant!

Not many folk wil be in the same house with the same car and, here's the killer, have the same red coat three decades on.

What year was the old pic from?

1982, the clue is in the bottom right corner. ;)

I've done a few then/now shots but mine are mostly based on older archive shots rather than personal ones. I was going to try and recreate this effort but the phone box has gone and I can't quite work out where it stood.

There is a website for this sort of shizzle. This one is pretty much better than anything on there that I remember though. I want to do some but don't have any old photos.

Great idea, I have a load of old pics that I'd like to try and re-create, i'm only 17 though and so most of my 'vintage' shots were taken mid to late 90s :(

Excellent stuff...we used to have a bucket just like that..the handle fell off! :(

Blimey, that's a "push button A" phone box! 1950's? EPIC! There ought to be a site called "Phoneshite" for this picture!

It's 1972, I'm not that old! The picture was taken specifically because it was the last Button A/ Button B phone in the area, though I believe some survived into the 80s in remote areas. Here's a bigger version of the picture http://www.flickr.com/photos/30854514@N08/5454002479/ . The original wasn't quite so "Instagram" but I need to either get a better scanner or get better at using the one I have.
