Micrashed Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Something small, about K11 size but fast and chuckable. Preferably T reg onwards. Doesnt have to be mentally fast but something that wont get overtaken by AC Invacars or kids on BMX bikes like the K11 1.0 I was thinking Polo GTi - but these are insane prices or dicked about with, the Lupo GTi (slightly better prices but everything other than yellow ones seem to be dicked about with) so then it was Arosa Sport - Ok, but cant seem to find anything decent under the £1600 mark. Then I ran out of ideas. Awaits Billy / Chris to come along and mention that both of the above are VAG shite.

splatthefat Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Thinking outside of the cliche http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2004-SKODA-FABIA-VRS-SILVER-Completely-original-FSH-taxed-MOT-NO-Reserve-/150950192153?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item2325552419 CJ
Cavcraft Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 To be fair, M, the Polo and Lupo seem pretty good. I would imagine the biggest problem would be finding one at a sensible price [compared to similar, non-VAG cars] as I think badge snobbery=over the odds money for them.
Felly Magic Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 The trouble is most 106's & Paxos have fallen into the hands of the Garyboy brigade, and have been chav'd up to within an inch of their lives. Furby vRS' are good if you find one that has been looked after, but there are a lot of them out there that have been ragged to death, or re-mapped to breaking point. They are nice to drive, handling isn't bad, and if you don't drive like the wheels are on fire, decent mpg is easily achievable.
Bobthebeard Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Not in the least helpful, but have always read your user name as mi crashed! Just realised that it is micra shed! Anyway.... Carry on as you were..
Felly Magic Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 I know its a shitter but what about a 306 TurboD. GTi looks, reasonable performance, good on juice???
Spiny Norman Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Are things like a Clio 172 or a 206GTi too extreme/expensive? How about one of the racier Puntos or an Ibiza GTi? Agree that the main thing to look for when dealing with that type of car at that price is signs of previous owners being cockwhisks. I'd check for ICE, RIMZZZ and 'innitmaaaan' before I even bothered to look for a service book....
Partridge Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 I’ll agree most 106’s have been Rogered but most of the Rallye models seem to be un molested
Joseph Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 I probably don't need to say this as it's as well known as the sky is blue. If you look at a Polo/Lupo GTi - make sure that it doesn't do anything silly with it's gearbox. Jumping out of gear, or any problems at all, then walk away... My suggestion: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MG-ZR-1-8-160 ... 25781d2f4f I tried to find a Rover 200 Vi, but to no avail...
skattrd Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 How about a little Daihatsu? There's been a Sirion rally2 & rally4 on ebay/autotrader recently and they go ok - 1.3 engine similar to one used in the Micra allegedly.Theres the YRV, there was a cheap one in Aberdeen recently - 130bhp stock, but stupid electric gearbox that can have issues. If you want to go a bit more jdm theres the Cuore Avanzato. I'm a big fan of these, but they do need aftermarket springs to make them chuckable in the lanes, awesome fun though, I've got 2 Alternately, how about the slightly bigger - Proton Satria GTi - I've been toying with getting one of these for a while, and have heard lots of good things about them.
Doctormop Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Fiat Seciento sporting?Thinking of the fun, chuckable and totally un Nissan side of things;http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fiat-Seicento ... 1c2cc72ccchttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2003-FIAT-SEI ... 416eab0504 Think these 2 are fairly close to you.
HMC Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Does it have to have a roof? mx5/ eunos's arent fast, but are fun, reliable and can be had for well under a grand
cort16 Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Cough, Puma.Say a red one in Scotland that's probably the only one in existance without rusty wheel arches.
trigger Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Bit of a risk finding a unabused one but what about a Fiesta Zetec S? I've never driven one but our friends had one for years and couldn't fault it, It was quick, cheap to run and repair and looked good too, especially in the Imperial Blue like the photo above. Rust might be a issue now though.
Mike D Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 How much have you got to spend? K12 Micra 160SR?
Micrashed Posted November 27, 2012 Author Posted November 27, 2012 How much have you got to spend? K12 Micra 160SR?About £1600. Interesting suggestions, especially the Skoda VRS & the Fiesta. I have had a look at Fiestas on line but again they seem to be either buggered or beyond my budget.
Mr Lobster Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Alfa 145 Cloverleaf or 147 Ti ? Decent ones do exist...
M'coli Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 I quite fancy Skattrd's suggestion, the Daihatsu Sirion? Even the 1.3SL is meant to be reasonably rapid.
garethj Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Alternately, how about the slightly bigger - Proton Satria GTi - I've been toying with getting one of these for a while, and have heard lots of good things about them. This, with handling by Lotus according to the 2 dozen subtle badges on it
Felly Magic Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Check out Briskoda.net and the Fabia section for all you need to know about them. There are loads of owners who you could ask for advice on what goes wrong etc, and what to look for. Good hunting
garycox Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 My brother still hs this for sale, he'd take £1200. Maybe a bit far though! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2005-PEUGEOT- ... 1011980888
Woody Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 One of these would fit the bill - small, nippy, great handling, fairly bulletproof old-tech 1.6 engine. I had one but with the hairies it was just too small for us 04 plate with 20k miles for 2 grand seems pretty good to me! (Edit: Just spotted the £1600 budget, still there are plenty of these that fall into it!)
sporty-shite Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Alfa 145 Cloverleaf or 147 Ti ? Decent ones do exist... This. Or this. Or this. Or this. Or this, looks well weapon! Personally, I really like Lupos and Polos, too, but the halfway quick ones are just too dear for what they are.
Morgan84 Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 MK4 Fiesta Even the little 1.2 zetec is suprisingly spritely, and 1.4 models are plentifull, plus you occasionally find a 1.6 Ghia. They handle really well
sporty-shite Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 MARTY..... http://www.retrorides.proboards.com/ind ... ead=140211 You wanted an early Fez, didn't you?
