Hello from the west of Scotland

Greetings all. Have been floating around here on and off for a couple of years but thought it was high time I introduced myself and showed you some of my shite.

The pic was taken at the start of the year and is of my 1992 200Tdi disco (still have) and my morris van (now sold). The van was sold because I just didn't have the time to look after two old cars (plus the bike(s) in the garage) and still have a social life/hold down gainfull employment.

I've had the disco for nearly 2 years now and used 15kg of welding wire (plus some metal as well) in the first 8 months of ownership welding up the chassis (round the fuel tank), rear body cross member, boot floor, rear wheel arches, inner sills, outer sills, footwells, inner wings, light boxes and front body mounts. This was after buying it sight unseen off the bay of plenty and optomistically thinking "how bad can it be its got 9 months MOT".

I've also rebuilt all the brakes, had a friend (with a garage) replace the clutch and timing belt, replaced bashed wing and bonnet and crumbling drivers door, cleaned out the allotment that was the interior, replaced the springs and shocks, headlights, heater blower, battery, alternator and had the starter rebuilt.

This car like other cars/bikes I've had in the past just goes to show that I'm really shit at buying motors but can normally manage to do a fair job of fixing them up. Never happier than when I've spent 4 times the value of a mint example turning a complete shitter into an avaerage condition example (then normally selling it on at a huge loss).

Neither the mental or physical scars of doing all that welding in the street outside the house have healed yet so I intend to hold onto the car for a while yet. Unless that is I get to cash in on OMG Snow Chaos later this winter and sell it for three times it's real value :) .

Hopefully make it along to the next Scottish meet later in the month shifts allowing.

cheers for now

Stewart

An old Disco needing a touch of welding, well I never!

Welcome aboard.

Cul de sac at the top of Hamilton. Typical 2 bed semi. Wimpey kit built shite from the mid eighties so probably looks like half of central Scotland.

Welcome! Those houses look familiar.

replaced the heater blower

what a hero, mine stopped working two years ago and I resorted to wearing thick warm gloves when driving in winter.

Welcome, come in and close the door quickly so the spam doesn't follow you in.

That's true - and welcome along - even if some of us are posting from overseas!

It looks like a Scottish summer day here in California - it's grey and pishing down outside....
