Any interest for an Autoshite 'Good garage guide'?

Just wondered if there is room on here for a 'Good garage guide'.

As in garages local to us that we have used and that understand our choice of cars* and give good service. Got a garage near me that will work on old shite without even blinking/ sucking teeth etc. Presume other good folks have similar garages...

Should we share this? May be handy etc.

Just a thought!

Edit. I also seem to be a thread killer for some reason! Why?

I think it is a brilliant idea.

The guys from the garage I use almost exclusively have restored an MG Metro Turbo, so I knew they will understand...

They also have an old Alpina B10, an Ariel Leader, and their shop hauler is an old Fiat Uno van, so they do know a thing or two about shite.

My vote goes to Curzon Road Garage in St Anne's. No connection etc, they do what is asked without any hassle.

Nice! They also don't mind working on our* cars.

Bad B.O. Sorry, I'm just the messenger.

J Long Engineering in Silchester, Hants - very helpful and honest. Not afraid to take on a challenge.

County Fleet Maintenance in Coleshill, Warks - council run garage services for cheap MOTs and servicing.

If this catches on, how about one of the more IT-savvy ones here making a Google map of our recommendations?

Top lad, really knows his stuff - just book early, he's always very busy!

My BX is in with Elders in Kirkintilloch just now for some welding work. I'll report back when they are done, but if the manage to get the rear subframe in & hydraulics working without my intervention, I'll eat my hat!

From what I have heard locally, he is a dab hand with old classics, but he admitted not done much work on old cits. Always tasty tin around though.

I reccomend me. :)

I work as a tech/mot tester right near j3 of the m6 in exhall and I run my own business (http://www.davidaspleymotors.co.uk) in my spare time. Can't do every job due to lack of ramp at home (yet.. Just sold our gaff and currently on the lookout for somewhere with work space) but I've got a lock up, full set of tools and 15 years experience.

I'd recommend VRS on Seven Stars Industrial Estate, Coventry

Surprisingly I'm going to recommend a VAG specialists:

Peter and his brother are brilliant with VAG stuff and are also very honest.

This has become my regular in Coventry,

http://www.arenacoventry.co.uk/

Owner is fantastic, i normally get a pass certificate, a few advisories and a verbal list of stuff that needs looking at before next time! Can't say fairer than that. I also try to take the company car there when i can because they never mess me about, and if they need to do extra work (bulbs, tyres etc) they sort it out directly with the lease company, unlike the idiots at North Street Garage!

Tunbridge Wells based Pete Melville of Oscillotech is a mate, but i can recommend his work too: http://www.oscillotech.co.uk

Specialising in proper electrical diagnosis for cars, commercials and agricultural vehicles, not just a "plug in a laptop and replace all the sensors" type of service, he does individual jobs as well as holding contracts with large dealers and a commercial manufacturer for warranty work. He also offers a regular mobile mechanic service.

All this and he's still in his early twenties!

Shite credentials: Converted a series 1 Metro VdP from automatic to manual for his first car. Also has converted a Sherpa campervan to L series turbo power, with an enormous turbo and a Transit intercooler: http://pimpmysherpa.co.uk

Also runs the Hydragas register: http://www.hydragas.co.uk.

Interesting, as this is within walking distance of my gaff. Used them regularly/recently?

I run H.G.F Motors in Wellington Somerset. Before you ask I bought the business with the name so have no idea what it meant !. I do my fair share of old tat most of it owned by me and Renault shite is a bit of a specialty. I even have a 94 Renault 5 as a loan car. I do tackle most things so if anyone is in need of any assistance in the Wellington / Taunton area give me a call or drop in there is normally a few bits of my own tat kicking around. Free local collection and delivery or if you can show me valid insurance why not borrow the 5 !

I'll probably only ever use this but.......

Tony's Hire,

121 Rockingham Road

Spearwood

Western Australia.

The guys main business is a small garden centre and equipment hire business, He's got a workshop to keep the couple of tippers and Ute serviced, but does car repairs for the general public - only by referral though. He says he's busy enough with the garden centre without being up to his knees in knackered cars.

Took my Falcon in for a couple of new tyres, the bits on a service I couldn't do, and for the dodgy electrics to be looked at. Price came to half of what other places quoted me.

OK I'll put a shout in for B.D. Motors of Talewater, near Ottery St Mary, Devon.

Usually an excellent collection of Chod outside.

I recently took our 'other' car, a Vauxhall Insignia there for a couple of tyres.

You know a garage caters for our sort of vehicle when they said the tyre man thought they had stolen it :)
