Pillock's Photo Pickings

LOL'd at the Focus full of hay. I wonder if it was a practical joke?

This week I saw a filthy, knackered Xsara with two nearly flat tyres at Morrisons, Skipton, piled high with straw and sheep pellets. I'd have papped it, but someone in another car was watching me take too much interest.

Is that a bonus Paseo in the background here?

That Princess is ludicrously rare, they only made a handful of them and this is the third I've ever seen photographic evidence of. I believe there is still one on the road somewhere, but the other isn't. Probably far beyond being savable looking at the picture there, but if you could it would be well worth it. If I could, I most definitely would even with it in that condition.

This was quite well done and had a rather sweet tale it being owned by a family and them restoring it over a number of years.....

But Slotmags will always win the day.

Hey, just caught up on this thread.

These two are owned by the same couple. They bought my old CF after I crashed it with the idea of putting the interior in the green one, but in the end they decided it was too good to break and repaired it. Yay! Happy ending!

Yes, naturally I aimed to get both cars in the same shot and it definitely* wasn't* an accident :)

The Focus I think was just being used as a pickup-with-roof, we're on the edge of quite a lot of countrysidey stuff here so perhaps driving to the Co-Op with a Focus full of hay is normal.

The Princess.... it's perhaps still there, it's hard to tell as the storage isn't accessible unless you know the people down there, it's not like you could just stumble across it (and two sides of it are protected by military police so you're not going to get away with tramping across fields!)

EDIT: Just done a Google Maps fly-by and the images are dated 2013 (I was there over a year ago), and there's still cars on the site although it's all been moved around. Maybe it's still waiting to be restored.....

Nice to hear about the CFs Ceri, does that mean one of them is your old one or is that still hidden away somewhere?

Posted

No, my old one was (and still is) blue. The green one is apparently super unusual, being a slidey-doored pop-top.

Posted

Thanks for the picture of the silver one, that one's also new to me. As far as I'm aware, 3 of the hearses survive (one even appeared in these pages and is being restored), some of the hearses definitely went around the oval of death and there's photographic evidence, though I have no inclination to dig them up (unintentional pun). I'd be totally impressed if a funeral director had the balls to operate a brace of Princesses these days but that's never going to happen. Heh, that's an addition for my dream garage then I guess, would be an impressive brace to turn up to car shows with.

Mrs_Pillock is really getting into the swing of things, by the time I've sussed out there's something worth photographing when I'm driving, she's got the cameraphone out ready :)

IMG_0336.JPG

I was up in Edinburgh and this sweet little mofo was zig-zagging across the city, kept popping up in front of me and then turning off only to reappear somewhere else.

IMG_0339.JPG

Random multistorey surprise, I'll let the LR pervs pick over how clean/original it is but looked mighty fine to me.

IMG_0341.JPG

I completely missed this photo whilst alongside, so you get this pointlessly small picture of a steam traction engine thingie coming across the A42.

IMG_0377.JPG

Go on, guess the owner. Guess. To help you, it had an AA road atlas and a tartan blanket on the rear shelf, the interior was bog stock 100% standard down to the original casette player. Papped it, went off to wander around Jodrell Bank, came back as a 20-something youth and his rather tasty lady friend were getting in.

IMG_0394.JPG

Shite Hotel Room Spot #1. The more you look, the more this Saab rewards you with shiteness - check the pop-rivited tear in the bumper, the yards of gaffer tape on the mirror and lights, and the general "don't give a flying one" appearance.

IMG_0395.JPG

Shite Hotel Room Spot #2. I just love the name of these, if it wasn't that they look so utterly miserable I'd have one on that strength alone. Bongo Friendee. Brilliant.

IMG_0396.JPG

Again, pointed out by Mrs_P and I snapped just as the lights changed, so apologies for lack of zoomage. Yes, it's the Rover that I was aiming for and the MGF is just a sort of bonus.

IMG_0402.JPG

Tiny. I've got shoes bigger than this.

Right, Lord Sterling you might want to cover your keyboard with clingfilm before proceeding.

IMG_0408.JPG

There we go. I loved this colour and it was in great nick, interior looked immaculate. Brummy possible-factory reg?

Yag! An 800! Comes up as an 820i Auto, so basically a fairly miserable spec 800 with an autobox, an old persons choice of spec surely. That is one fine colour and the fact it has placca trims instead of alloys is a bonus.

The Golf with the tartan blanket/map combo is something I really want to do with my cars, next time I see a tartan blanket, its mine.

I'm sure this wasn't a tediously slow journey at all....

IMAG0006.jpg

Insanely dull paint, I fought the urge to go and buy a poundland mopping kit. This was in Market Harbrough where it seems OK to drive round in shonky old tat, it looks like you get to a certain poshness and then it no longer matters what you drive.

Dumped bus. This is at Twycross Zoo and never seems to move.... weird looking thing, the windscreen has a droopy bit on one side.

20130519_130510.jpg

Parking like this isn't exactly helping the image of "dubbers" but at least it's shiny.

Awful picture of a Jaaaaaag even the banger boys wouldn't touch.

Good condition to say it's been dumped at the back of a compound

I thought I'd only managed to get an awful picture of this pink Onion, but then, same day....

IMAG0062.jpg

IMAG0074.jpg

There's usually a Mini Clubman here too, I feel cheated.

IMAG0073.jpg

Local Ford dealer had a few goodies in the showroom, there was a Model T and a Cortina but this was the HONEY for me. Even had original plates from that dealer.

IMAG0040.jpg

Get your coat love, you'll need it - the roof leaks.

IMAG0024.jpg

Excuse the jaunty angle, I was being all secretive as the bloke sat in this looked exactly like you'd expect him to.

What this needs is more moss.

IMG_20130503_135024.jpg

I really wanted this photo to come out OK - it was a cleft-hook, froggy-plated TT with Audi wheeltrims. Did they get a poverty edition?

More Escort Cab. Just like buses.

OK, so hopefully I'm getting these in the right chronological order so no repeats.....

Scene-whore but I don't care. This was lovely, had a good old chat to the owner too

IMAG0149.jpg

This appears to have been dumped as an advertising board further up the river from where the Trekker was. Looked tidy enough, perhaps it moves every now and again but rusty brakes and cobwebs over it suggest it sits here for much of the time.

Didn't think you could get an R6, van, so aftermarket/custom?

The Edinburgh police smart car from the previous page has subsequently been replaced/augmented by one of those electric Mitsubishi things.

So creamy, I just wanted to lick it all over.

IMG_20131024_140001.jpg

This is not some weird mirror-based illusion, some firm of (I think) groundwork contractors were washing a pair of these. Perhaps they started out as an L200 WARRIORANIMALGRR but the water was too cold.

IMG_20131101_132142.jpg

I didn't notice the numberplate, I took the photo as it was a very nice example, and not very pink. I've since seen the plate and it's probably worth megabucks, so all the nicer that the owner is bombing around in a car "worth" a fraction of that.

Went to the re-opening of Mallory Park, they had a bit of a thang going off with more of interest in the carpark than lined up for display:

IMG_20140301_123827.jpg

Right colour, wrong plates.

IMG_20140301_124755.jpg

This was RHD but I thought the 205 Rallye was France-only, with the 106 and 206 being UK models?

Sweet.

Ace spottage!

The Metro Van / mossy R5 pic also features a pre-facelift Fiat Uno and a Bedford TL, I think - which must entitle you to some sort of valuable* prize.

I've looked up the Chinese thing on mycarcheck but that's cheating so I'll keep schtum. I'd never heard of it.

Posted

I'm almost tempted to knock on the door of the Coalville Daily Rag and ask for a closer look - there was no way I could tell what the car behind the Metro was, let alone the truck.

Oh yeah - never thought of looking up the Egg Fried Rice on a car checking site. Ooops. I now know (but am no wiser).

Do it! There's all kind of stuff back there by the looks of it.

Thing is, I looked it up exactly an hour ago, and have already forgotten what it is.

Loving those metro Vans. I didnt think you could get an R6 van either but maybe these lot managed to wangle it somehow with their small 'fleet'? I guess Rover could have built one if they'd wanted, doesn't need any parts that weren't already tooled up.

It was available with the XU9. British buyers probably preferred the XIDL and XUD9, though, so maybe not many XU9s were sold in .co.uk.

Yep, that cream Benz estate is like the Werther's original of cars.
