whitevanman Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 Dave............I have a Sapphire doing nothing you know I love old diesels
DodgyBastard Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 If he changes his mind he could bring it to Fife...
aldo135 Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 Dave............I have a Sapphire doing nothing you know I love old diesels Got pictures of that sapphire mate?
whitevanman Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 I haven't, but I'll get some next time I am over at the garage. Are you intending keeping it on. The road?
CortinaDave Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 It's a mate of mine that's bought it. He plans just to use it to knock about in for a few months then see what it's like for an MOT. Had a good plod around in it yesterday - surprisingly quite perky out on the open road and decent to drive. HEAVY at parking speeds though... Popeye arms for him. He's chuffed with it.
CortinaDave Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Here's the obligatory pic of him when he picked it up from the costa del kinkersaab on Sat. A man happy in his shite He drove it the 110 miles back down to fife yesterday with no issues at all... looks to have had a fairly recent battery, exhaust, filters etc - Only thing that needs doing really is a coolant flush as its like lentil soup and the heater is crap as a result. Not entirely sure why its come up as a massive pic and chopped the front end off... it looks fine on photobucket! but I've no idea how you resize.
CortinaDave Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Right, this is back for sale again... My mate bought it as a temporary runner while he was waiting on an insurance cheque which has come through sooner than expected so he doesn't need it anymore. I've been using it for the last ten days or so and its a bloody good running old motor. Easy 50 plus MPG and I've had it up and down to aberdeen three times from fife, and into edinburgh daily. Clutch is high but hasnt got any worse - Its knocked up 2000 miles since kinkersaab sold it in October so its a decent old motor. MoT is til the 13th Jan and tax to the end of the month. I'm in a bit of a spot with this car as I don't need it nor is it particularly up my street but I'd hate to see such a rare old barge that does monster mpg go over the bridge. Someone kindly buy it so I dont have to. He wants £250.. the car is in Fife and I'm pretty sure would drive anywhere in all its tatty burgundy glory with the radio blaring out medium wave in its one speaker tinny greatness.
nigel bickle Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 If you can find a cost effective way of getting it to Sussex, I'd be v interested. Not that I need another 18...
Cheggers Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Autoshite relay!! I can do Berkshire to Bickle, we just need to get it south from Scottishland. Jifflemon 1
willswitchengage Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Without trying to make you sound dumb, have you tried checking it's not just simply a poorly adjusted clutch cable?
CortinaDave Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Nope... Not my car to faff about with so I've just driven it! Might well be but to be honest I've done no more than put diesel in it. I've no doubt it would drive down to Sussex quite happily, its mechanicly spot on but it is tatty as hell with giffer repairs all over it... its a ten feet car... looks good from ten feet away Would be good if it could become the new Autoshite bike
gtd2000 Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Hadn't realised how "similar if you squint" these Renaults were with the Volvo 360 before...
Largactil Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Autoshite relay!! I can do Berkshire to Bickle, we just need to get it south from Scottishland. I'm flying up to Edinburgh tomorrow, and returning to London on Thursday...
willswitchengage Posted December 3, 2012 Posted December 3, 2012 Again, if anybody knows of a classic insurer who will sell a policy to a 22 year old without insulting them down the phone...
nigel bickle Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 I'm def interested- but will defer to anyone much closer- as the cost of shifting it all the way down here will be more than the car! PM me if you want this to go forward -and I'll do some 'investigating'.
CortinaDave Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Cheers Nigel. It has literally just sold! Off to another local shiter so should still be on here...
sierraman Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 My god! I imagined such a shite car would have been extinct by now! Now im thinking about it i'd only fritter £250 on the gas and electric...
DodgyBastard Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Looks like I'll be going with the new owner to pick this up on Monday.
skattrd Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 It's nice to see old chod stay within the fold.
CortinaDave Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 There's a bit of extra news on it too. Grabbed the MoT and the spare keys off my mate the other day and he told me out of interest he'd done an MoT history check. Turns out the giffer has tried to MoT it in October before selling it. It failed, but not on much at all. Some minor welding and a couple of odds and ends so it should test again with minimal hassle. Result I think.
cort16 Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 That overspray on the bumper is an epic giffer repair. I presume the wings are filled in with badly rubbed down polyfilla?I hope it rolls on in it's current state for a few years yet. rasher 1
Split_Pin Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 That's a splendid looking motor, I didn't know they had a north south engine config a la 12. Is this yours now?
DodgyBastard Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Not mine though I did have a go earlier on the way up to waxwing autobreakers today. the seats are so comfy and it pulls really well and still has a load of power.
CortinaDave Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 I really dont think you can lose on that car. it was super-reliable over the many miles i put on it in a short time and uses absolutely sod all fuel. Plus it upsets the neighbours. all this for a couple of hundred quid... glad you're pleased with it. Its an incredible survivor being such low miles on a diesel, and although it is a bit frilly - its a mid 80's renault so it should be a pile of iron filings by now
