Autoshite: "not just Pistonheads for poor people".

The Classics room in PH is mostly OK. Everywhere else is shouty and a bit rubbish. Many of the twerbs reportedly go into apoplexies if their cars get a drop of rain on them. I try to give sensible legal advice in the speedy ploddy law bit, but waste my breath, as it is full of Bloke in Pub dickweeds.

That part is funny!!!

Esp when they start with openers like 'a friend of mine has just been caught.......' yeah right, or I have just got a summons etc for doing 134536744mph what will happen to me?????? WTF do you think prick!!!!!!

Well I'm happy here, which takes some doing. I've had Ups and Downs and somebody has been there each time to pass me a cup of coffee and a cushion. Where else could I display some of the photos I show, and cheerfully admit to having owned several Ladas?

I once started a POH thread about the amazing "friend" and all his zany antics.

The general attitude of whinging, obsessive legalism, trying to get off, and looking for compensation for trivial incidents displayed by many PH posters, is pretty dispririting.

i must say guys this is one of the friendliest internet forum i lurk in the background on, its not just ph that is full of bottom feeding scene kids unfortunately the internet is full of them, i love underdog motors and always have, i only found this site because a guy i know spotted my capri on someones shite spoting thread and told me about it so i had to investigate and have been enjoying the shite since

I was directed here to look for some parts for one of my shitemobiles, and felt the tractor* beam of lerrve, so I stayed.

Compare and contrast, for example, the Lotus Excel Forum. There are only a few hundred of these heaps left, so it's a small world, inhabited by Mr Rude, his cousin Rude Jack McRude, his brother in law, Rudy Von Rude, and their even ruder mates.

Pistonheads I have no time for at all. I must say I'm very happy here in this forum. I've only posted a couple of times but have been made to feel really welcome which is a feeling quite rare in the forums I used to frequent. I'd pretty much given up on internet forums as I couldn't stand the abuse, the pettiness etc. It's also nice to find people who have a similarly tragic taste in cars. Where else could I admit in public to liking Citroen Visas, Talbots Solaras, Yugos and, er, Renault 14s? :D

I do go on there from time to time, mainly the classics section and mainly the period photos of classics which is great. Elsewhere it does sometime seen a bit gladiatorial, with the newbies left to put a foot wrong and then the lions are sent in

Bugger, that's the only reason I joined :(

The main thing I admire about this forum is the length that some people go to save some un-popular rusted out putrid car that's had its front end submerged in a pond for 14 years would probably snap in two if it were jacked up and if you sat in it you'd be likely to catch cholera. The person who spots it comes on here asking "is it worth saving?" to which everyone else types "yes of course" or "go for it" type responses so the person goes ahead gets the car delivered to their middle class semi on a Monday morning this causes an emergency Neighbourhood Watch meeting on Monday evening and a trip to the divorce court on Friday morning, on Saturday evening the car catches fire and burns the house down. The person posts on here what's happened to which people respond with sympathetic posts like "such a shame, you won't find another car like that" then someone else offers a free Austin Montego that’s been buried in a quarry for 8 years and the process starts all over again...welcome to Autoshite.

^ That sums up Autoshite for me too! Never before have there been so many people to encourage others to do things they probably shouldn't in such a friendly manner.

This is by far the most laid back and friendly forum I've ever come across, and when there are arguements it's usually over as soon as it's begun and we've gone back to reading about the latest epic shite save or ogling pristine Marinas in the tat thread.

That sums its up for me too. The strongly developed senses of humour, irony and the absurd shown by posters here put other Net Fora to shame. There's also the small matter of the number of fabulously cack cars to be seen, and the non precious attitude to all cars, cacky or not. Actually, screw that, it's the realisation that all cars are cack, when you really think about it, and the rejoicing in this fact.

This place is great for firing up the Mojo when you're sitting there looking at bills versus cash you'd get if you flogged it. There are some heroic saves - and some incredibly quick restorations (I'm thinking multiple Reliant savior Coalnotdole here, as well as Monsieur Bollox and his marvellous collection of hopeless, rusty tat that always benefits from his welder's torch). One reason I am so in love with shite motoring is this place. It's like having your eyes opened to a whole new world!

I am very happy here in the Land of Chod and never want to leave... 8)

I like PH. Yes you get a lot of knobs, but rather a forum with actual discussion as opposed to "if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything" mentality. There's also some good discussions to be had in the various sub forums about films, games, planes etc. As long as you avoid the raving Tory Boys (someone once actually tried to claim the BBC uses red backgrounds to subliminally convince people to vote Labour) you'll be fine

Autoshite is the only place on the net where you could enter with a minor perversion to BL chod and end up fascinated by Ex-Communist, French, Italian, American, Japanese etc medium saloons of the 1970s-80s. For that it is great.

As for PH, it is huge and consequently has it's highs and lows. Personally I like the motorsport section as it has a lot of good information on there as well as people directly involved in the sports. (At least one BTCC driver, a couple of race mechanics etc).

PH can be fun, but suffers from people being rude, and from people being strongly opinionated whilst at the same time being crassly ill informed.

The political bits have the depressingly little Englandy, right wing attributes of all net fora apart from Sparts R Us.com (and they know feck all about cars).

The slavering attitude to POS shopping hatches modded and chipped up by Barries is a might troubling. The other lot who get hives if someone even looks at their car in a funny way are depressing.

Here is moar nicest.

I find this a funny place to read but the anti- Retro Rides thing gets me down. I'd have thought that as an older crowd you'd probably understand how younger car folk are impressed by the ways of Retro Rides, but it doesn't seem to be the case.

Also, my car doesn't fit in here, despite it being what Autoshite is about. It doesn't matter that it was shite when I got it, then it was a complete pear and I fixed it up on a small budget and a lot of bleeding knuckles because it's a Ford, it's shiny and it's South London look. But I'm not precious about it. It's for tat hauling, tip runs and getting from A to B. It's just turned into one of those cars that now has a scene and it's changed what it is perceived as, to most people.

Anyway, that's my moan over. I wouldn't think about going on Pistonheads. Definitely not my thing and I agree about the asshats on there.

I can think of no other forum where people would think it "A Good Idea" to travel 420 miles to a sodden field in Wiltshire to camp and become merry with a load of weirdos many of us have never met.

This in itself is "A Good Thing". I like it here. It's beige and everything smells slightly of rotten fablon.

I like Autoshite less than I used to. I have my reasons. I'd rather everyone not way lyrical about 'community spirit' because such jubilation grates on me.

I dip in and out of Retro Rides but don't pretend to understand the obsession with slamming things a quarter of an inch of the deck in order to be cool. I also don't get the continuous dick riding of Mike Burroughs.

For what it's worth, I enjoyed the Gathering bar one major caveat.

I tried Pistonheads a while ago. I came to the conclusion that unless you're a true driving enthusiast or a Golf TDi owner, you're not going to fit in. I will never own either, so PH is not for me.

Here is Jonny's car:

I like it.

I don't know why you'd say your car doesn't fit in here Jonny, it's bloody lovely!

Certain sections of Pistonheads are ok, keep out of the Lounge and General Gassing and there a some knowledgeable, helpful people on there.

And I like the Angular too!

Bizarre thread is bizarre

stuff

A couple of things. Firstly, I fuggin' love your Anglia. Dunno if I've ever said that to you directly like, but it's just a perfect car in my eyes and I'm not sure why. I'm sure I have previously had a long conversation with Seth about how much I love that car even though it sort of conforms to a lot of the things I find boring about modified old Fords (does that sound rude? sorry. I LOVE it). Maybe next time I'll have a long conversation with you about it, that'll probably be better. Not that I've ever met you or owt.

Secondly, I did a bit of a lulzz at the 'older crowd' thing, are most AS members really 'older'? I think people here just come across like bitter old bastards, actually from those of you I know it's a pretty wide age demographic from 17 year olds to over 60s, which I think is probably true of most car fora tbh

thirdly, RR bashing gets pretty boring but I am as guilty of it as anyone. There is a lot to dislike about the place but for the most part the cars and (most of) the owners aren't amongst them, rather the sycophantic hero-worship (as Wat mentioned, and it extends beyond Mr. Burroughs) and holier-than-thou attitude of some prominent members (as well as a few lol-worthy fuggin' shit-tips people try to pass off as cool). I think those things are genuinely deserving of a bashing. What rubs me up the wrong way about AS is the bizarre ALL MODDED CARS R SHIT attitude of a lot of the members which just turns into a general anti-RR thing as that's the most visible target. Modded cars are fuggin' GREAT when done properly - PHACT. Extreme views about anything basically just prove you to be a bit of an idiot, I consider the people who say "I H8 all modified cars, they are all shit" to be about as smart as those who say "All cars are shit unless they are modded, I would mod any car don't car how rare it is" etc (the 'takes a man to cut one up' brigade, basically).

Sorry, I sort of lost what point I was trying to make there. Basically I think all people are dicks, that about sums it up. BYE!

You are Hirst and I claim my combi boiler with a picture on it of Elizabeth Taylor selling 432 cars a month.

I think he's been spending to much time getting groomed by Hirst on that other site.

This site is interesting, you can find threads you want to read very quickly and spend hours before you know it. The other sites mentioned, you will spend your time looking for something worthwhile. Not sure what it is, maybe because it's a bit minority here, and anything good that has the masses all over it turns into shit. Whatever it is that's keeping the great unwashed at bay, keep it up,

I wonder if it's the lack of TXT-SPAKery, thinking about it, it hurts my brain to attempt to read bad grammer an spellin an dicshion an that like. Maybe semi-literates find it similarly painful to read good grammar like wots on here.

That, and the way arseholes are promptly verbally fucked off out of it.
