...and in the final of the 'shittiest plastic grille on a 50 year old design', Volkswagen's watercooled type 2 has been beaten into second place by whatever the hell that thing is.

Am I going to get in trouble by saying the flatback (or whatever you call the one on the left) would look cool lowered on some Slotmags?

Unusual for a vehicle to look better in snapshots than publicity material, but it does look pretty good IRL:

The front end treatment is reminiscent of a Morris Oxford biting into a habanero chili pepper, having mistaken it for a cherry tomato.

That's almost reached a point where it could get away with being 'retro' and become fashionable.

Is there some company still importing the saloons to the UK?

Nah. Was a place in Wales that did it, but it didn't last long. Guess there just wasn't a market for £9000 50 year old cars! They should have slapped a Danbury badge on the side and raised the asking price by several times. It might have worked then... GR8 RETRO CAMPER. BRING A DUVET. KIP ON BACK SEAT!

I do find the idea of a trayback Ambassador quite attractive. Especially as that spec-sheet implies that the diesel version still has a B-Series engine. Isn't the petrol engine an Isuzu these days?

I remember Fullbore Motors were importing them into the UK in the early 1990s, they also had a go at importing some basic spec Tatra 613s, different to the ones Tim Bishop was trying to import at the same time.

When I was in India last year, on my ropey old factories of the world tour, I spoke to a bloke about the Ambassadors. He said that recently they were made of thinner gauge steel so weren't as well thought of as the older ones. I guess that NCAP stars haven't made it as far as India because the general feeling was the Hindustan was safer in a crash than new cars.

I think I'd rather have one of these trucks if you like the English looks but with Japanese reliability presumably :
