Nige's newest nonsense

No, in the background of the R17 picture... I know what the Nissan looks like, I've seen it at the pub!

Oh yes! Old pic -sorry. It was indeed a Viceroy. Quickly sold on as useless for towing. Found it tough enough to move its own weight!

You just keep delivering! :D

Looks like a fairly early one? Early 70s?

These must be fairly structurally strong, they seem to be a top choice as chicken residencies by Czech farmers.

MOAR PIC PLZ.

Yup RS, tis indeed an early one. its going to be registed as a 69.

Scooters- sure. It may be a while though.....

Loving the Warty. I had a go in Ed Weeks off RetroRides' saloon when he first bought it and found it a thoroughly enjoyable thing to drive - and the best-sounding engine of any Eastern European car this side of a Tatra.

Aye, its a good fit with Barkas (same engine etc) & the Trab's. Hope its roadlegal this summer- lots of two strokiness!

I''ve been a little quiet of late -compounded by my wife being taken seriously ill -now hopefully on the mend.

Anyway, my stepson kindly popped down to Plympton last week and rescued this, recently acquired from Mr N Creep ,of this very forum:

2 blow outs on the way home (-unsuprising given the dire state of the tyres) and a minor wrestle with the brakes (h/brake left on) saw it safely delivered to West Sussex.

Because I'm still a bit poorly, the kids decided to investigate what needs doing -and quickly surmised everything mechanical! & a little welding (less than expected).

So -the entire braking system is currently stripped off (they saved one rear cylinder & 1 short metal brake pipe - everything else is rusted solid/out & consigned for scrap. Even the pads had gone crumbly -not seen anything like it previously!

The 40k(ish)0 mileage feels genuine, and the interior will clean up OK -we think. The backs of the sills are both toast (inc the one already 'welded') but that aside -its solid. Paints borked -but thats for later.

All in all -I'm happily confident it'll see the road before winter.

I think a brief update on some of the others recently mentioned might be a good idea, too.

In no particular order:-

Regata is in regular use. Its absolutely splendid. I love it.

The new 127 is in the queue for MOT. Bunch of fettling and reconditioning was needed, and the interior needed replacing. Once roadlegal I'll prob sell as its not really me.

The 850 is used sparingly, locally. Its awful seats were replaced with X1/9 highbacks which are much more comfortable. Sadly I've got the height wrong, so that'll need adjustment. A fuel pickup issue in the tank is vexing me, meaning thats its not completely reliable -and only seems to putter out when I'm call cleaned up. T

The Wartie is coming on nicely. Scrubbed up well -together with a lashover paint job on the rusty bonnet (it rained before it had fully gone off -doah!). I'm awaiting new balljoints from Germany & need to fabricate a small bracket missing from the wiper linkage. Apart from that its as sound as a pound and will be out later this year.

My Mk1 Strada has temporarily stalled as its been pushed to the back by my repatriated others -but those will be sorted this Autumn. The blue 1100 is returning to the road & the green one will shortly be scrapped, (no interest in it).

Peugeot van has been collected by my french mate & is currently sitting outside his barn. i've rejected all offers from him,so far. Apparently the brakes on 3 wheels are locked on.... happy days!

The Bellel starter motor is back for its 2nd rebuild after the first singularily failed. (Barely able to turn itself over). The wheel cylinders are back & the shoes have been relined. I have the new longer replacement wheel studs (for alloy wheels) so work will start shortly on that. Seats are with a 2nd trimmer after the first welshed.

Loads more going on (even without me most of the time!).

Sorry to hear about your wife, hope she really is on the mend.

Other than that, nice update, always good to hear about the Bellel, even if the news is a bit mixed...

+1 on everyone's health.

Meanwhile, your stepson deserves some sort of Autoshite award for A-framing that Yugo from Plympton to Sussex :D8)

It was his first long journey towing, but its fairly light & caused the Nissan (2,4 litre) no issues. He'd had plenty of training, and practised with all manners of chod. He was well prepared & was expecting tyre & brake issues, so wasnt fussed. Judging by the state of them -i'm suprised all 4 didnt fail.

Anyway 4 hours, each way (9 in total ). He can go long haul now.

No asterisk required.

I was pleased to notice that appeared in your sig a while back Nigel. I am jealous of your acquisition and fettleing skills, not jealous of the health problems. Well done for keeping at it though all that. Best wishes to you, and thanks for the update!

Nice work on saving that Yugo. Didn't some Yugo owners club say that it's the only RHD 313 left in existence?

Hope Mrs. B is on the mend Nige.

I'm eagerly awaiting the Bellel hitting the road. Am I allowed to have a go in it when it's legal? :)

Please don't scrap the 1100.... have you ebay'd it? I'm sure somebody will want it. If all else fails.... I suppose I can take it off your hands. If you're gonna be at the pub next week we can have a chat about it then....

Always mind-boggling to read about people like yourself going on mental tat-missions and buying up the last example of something in this galaxy whilst dodging health issues and whatnot.... given that I struggle to get my healthy ass out of bed and make breakfast most mornings.

Not really up on my Yugos but I know friends of my grandparents had a similar looking one, in bright red. I think it was on a Y plate? Replaced with a last-of-the-line Mk3 Escort on a C, cheap dealer stock. That seemed a million miles into the future compared to the Yugo.

Well -here's the latest -kinda.

I was pointed at this by an occasional member here, and went to see it/ buy it/pay for it nearly 2 years ago!  I've kept in touch with the vendor ,and circs dictated that we finally collected today. Finally.

A Phase 1 V6, it hadnt moved since mid 94, when driven in with ''minor issues''. I'd viewed it in the dark & had little/ no idea what to expect- but have, so far been pleasantly suprised. Once I'd inflated the tyres it cranked out, slowly, on the starter (Jump lead aided). Fuel down the venturi had it coughing/spluttering but it wouldnt catch. I cant hear the fuel pump so I'm guessing relay or pump issues- although 20 year old petrol cant have helped. Loathe to top up if I'm going to throw it all away when I take the pump off!

It A framed home without issue, and a quick wash/clean/ polish to get it looking reasonably presentable is about all I can muster to date.

I reckon it'll run fairly easily, but I think it'll need an exhaust (call it a hunch), brakes (darent touch them after the clutch pedal stayed down!) & then it'll be on to the ''minor issues'' that laid it up. Already found a cracked screen , rad leak and blocked drains on the sunroof.

Happy days..

Best of luck to you both, Nigel!

That looks pretty good considering, the phase 1s look much more interesting than the later ones. I don't recall seeing a phase 1 V6 before.

Let me know if you still wanna sell the 127 at some point, we're still interested as a potential 126 replacement. It'd be my friend that uses it and he's happy to spend a bit on it to get any small issues sorted. We've already been doing this on the 126 which now runs and looks a lot better, so it'd be going to a good home. He likes the look of the 127, and fancies something a bit more useable. Shortlist so far is that or a small convertible like a Samba or similar. There's no rush though as the 126 is OK for the short commute he has at the moment, and he's got access to a '90s Polo for any longer journeys.

Hope Mrs B is on the mend, and that you're keeping well too. Best wishes to all concerned.

Nice!  A lot of V6s seem to have been engine raped for kitcars and Alpines so its nice to see one thats survived and I'd agree that the earlier ones look better.

All the best on the health front, hope things pick up soon.

Gary- its out the front, kinda ready to go; slowly vanishing under leaf & tree detritus. I'll MOT it shortly -when I can be arsed/find time.

Welcome to look/play/fiddle anytime. You know where I am  -you'll not miss it.
