1975 Citroen 2cv

Thought I should properly introduce myself. Over the last ten years I have been driving various potentially shite cars. Currently, I am just finishing off my drum brake 1975 2CV, which I have resprayed in the original beige .

interior wise, it's got brown vinyl seats and chocolate brown plastic everywhere.

Previous shite cars include a dyane and a Citroen c5 (as opposed to a Sinclair!). Currently trying to flog a Peugeot 407, whose replacement could be an über cheap Merc s320 (t reg, does that make it shite worthy?)

Hi Ben

lovely and from another 2CV owner welcome, Im sure Dollywobbler will say hello too.

A T reg S320 - that's bound to have plenty of rust! Definitely shite I'd say :D

Posted

Welcome, your 2CV looks very smart, has it always looked that good or has a lot of time been spent?

Welcome aboard. Your Escargot look the business.

Ah, it looks good in the photos, but close up it's not that good. I spraed it myself in my single garage. Here's how it looked about 7 years ago:

I've moved house and added two children to the family since then!

It's amazing what a lick of paint and a new hood can do.

..and added two children to the family since then!

Surprised you had the energy for that after rubbing all that paintwork down.

Posted

I wish it was just a lick of paint! The kids came along first, with the third on the way it was get it done now or never! However, the "you know you're a shiter when..." thread is bringing some amazing similarities. I've told the misses to shoot me if I ever buy another wreck, but it'll happen I'm sure!

Welcome to the site. Nice looking escargot 2CV you've got there, there is love for the 2CV around here which I'm sure you'll find.

A T-reg S320? To be honest I found the S320 a little miserable to drive, nice a smooth but thats about it. The interior, if its Grey leather sort of looks a bit cheap. Apart from rust, other problems like the sensor key can cause a headache, I'm sure these have those horrible sensor keys which go tend to go wrong just for a laugh.

I think you'll soon want to go back to your 2CV just for the simplicity

Welcome along. Liking the Deuche.

You'll get extra shite points if you respray the S320 beige to match it.

Hello and welcome. 2CVs are WIN.

...and so are old Mercs.

Very pleasing example of a little 2CV :)

Buy a Mercedes S320 if you love electrical gremlins and potential rusty arches !

Painted beige would look like a German Taxi - quite nice !

Lovely car. I appear to be in a minority of people who prefer the rectangular headlamps on 2CVs.

Hi Ben. Good to see you here. Great to see the 2CV is almost finished! Still remember when you scooped it up. It's come a long way!

For all the non-2CV-anoraks, they only started selling 2CVs in the UK again in 1975 so N-plate ones make us 2CV fans go wibble. Especially in beige.

I like the squared off lamps myself. So,thats a pretty desirable aged one to have then ( me having no understanding of 2CV's at all )

Posted

Welcome!

I like the square lamps too.

I had a beige LHD one on a N plate, for a short time. Wish I'd have kept it :(

Ian and the other 2CVGBers, didn't an M-reg one turn up in Evesham, years ago? Think it had been painted black or something. It was featured in the mag and then put in an appearance at Registers... any idea?

Posted

That was another N-reg Louise. Will owned it many moons ago, when it was black. It's now red and looks ace. Don't think any M-reg RHD 2CVs exist but I could be wrong.

Posted

Are you sure? :P

I'm convinced it was an "M" and I won't be told otherwise!

Where is it now then? Back on the road?

Posted

Sounds pretty early , that'd be aug 73 I guess? I think my one is third or fifth since the restart of importation, if that matters to anyone?

There's a M reg 2CV or Dyane here in Ipswich, It's cream and black, I've seen it a few times recently, It might be a Dyane though thinking about it as i think it has squire lights.

Time for an update, this 2cv has taken a back seat for a while, but that's changing.

Having settled into our new home and completed the required amount of diy, I've cleared some space in the garage. 2cv in and tonight this happened :

I've always been keen on clean engine bays, but this car is really messy. Assorted patches were acquired as I tried to get the car back on the road and I've now finally got some space to work when the nights draw in.

Here is what I'm facing. Ideally I will be able to these repairs flush with the bulkhead, but time will tell if I can get the thin metal to play the game.

Bugger. I see where I'm starting then.

Missed this last time round but she looks like a lovely car,  best of luck with the refresh.

Welcome to the world of shite.

What an ace Tin Snail. This is one type of car that I have never actually driven.

Maybe one day.

Well worth giving this attention.  I prefer the rectangular lights, single spoke steering wheel and chocolate dash of the '75 2cv6, but then I would 'cos I bought one brand new in September 1975 (LGS15P : sadly, long gone).  Mine was blue and cost £1068.

Having got as far as taking panels off and poking with a screwdriver, I can't find my dremel. The garage needs new lights wiring, all in place just waiting for the sparky to call. Will have to wait until the weekend for natural light to go hunting.

The more I see these threads the more I realise how stupid it is to buy crusty old Citroens.

I've got one, by the way, I'm not pretending to be clever or owt.

It's definitely stupid. Here's more stupidity - whilst doing this:

I managed to give myself a good dose of welders flu. Lovely. New metal, which must have a much thicker zintec coating. Time for an air mask, or just give up welding.

Well if you fancy writing something with a few photos I'll put it in the Citroen car club magazine. Email 2cv at citroencarclub.org.uk
