Wouldn't surprise me that the "£1k to scare away undesirables" is actually what they think it's worth and are expecting to get.

Excellent seized engine,

Fully rewired (as proven by the loom sitting on top of the chest of drawers inside the car)

Lot's of spare parts [anything from windows to spare lights to a Four Cheese pasta sauce tub brimming with yellowing water],

3 rows of seats [this is a 8 seater car] which are obviously going to be in excellent condition aren't they

3 rows of bed frames

This car has got lot's of space, some of these models had been used as an ambulance [could also get used as a camper, as it has plenty of space in the back for a bed/old radiators/cardboard boxes full of old shit we can't bring ourselves to throw out, but can't stand the sight of anymore, much like our beloved Citroen].

The only reason she wasn't used on the road was due to her needing welding done.

Around 1/2 of it got done, but then my husband got a very demanding job, which means he doesn't spend much time here and therefore the time to do her up just hasn't been there. Husband also lost the plot and half unbolted everything for no reason and never put it back on.

As said, that engine is brilliant (in 2001) and had been any time it gone through an MOT (11 years ago) below the required emissions , unlike some newer cars, who only just scrape through, which is what this car will do as the hydropneumatic suspension is seized.

It's really just bodywork needing done on this car, then putting back together. SIMPLE!

Anyone with a big magical book of car restoring spells could make a wonderful car out of this.

This is a special classic car, which needs some TLC. And by 'special', I mean it's been subjected to a spanner happy husband and 10 years of cruel English winters on someone's driveway.

I used to take stuff apart when I was younger, I think that's what he did with this.

Even if this was free I'd still advise you to give it a miss. A phone call to the "specialist" that maintained it might be good for a laugh though.

It's easy to get misty eyed over cars because you believe that it deserves saving due to it being "the last *** with a *** manufactured in 19** but if you look at it realistically every surviving example of even relatively common cars like the mk4 Cortina is unique in some way, for example if you found a rusty mk4 Cortina 2.3 GL automatic in Roman Bronze with a tobacco vinyl roof rotting in a field somewhere it would probably be the last surviving mk4 Cortina 2.3 GL automatic in Roman Bronze with a tobacco vinyl roof in the country. Does that mean it has to be saved? :?

I have a simple rule with the shit I buy to do up.

If you can't drive it, don't buy it.

If there are faults that mean a car cannot be driven, but it's complete and unmolested otherwise it could be worth your time. If it was a mint Rover P5B Coupé with a seized engine for a couple of grand I'd take a chance and chuck and engine in, but the Citroen is fucked unless you've got a good few grand and a few Citroen specialist friends.

Run away.

However, if you have a couple of weeks and a load of storage space it could be worth stripping etc.

I come from a serial citroen family and I wouldn't touch a cx that isn't in running order.

That's way too much work for no return.

The welding is doable. It would be a challenge, but it's only metal, so it can be repaired.

However, it would take a massive amount of time, effort, and expense - and sadly there are much better examples out there for a fraction of the price this one would cost to rebuild. I'm not saying you shouldn't go for it - you'd be my hero if you did manage to resurrect it - but you'd have to be seriously dedicated. I'm also wondering to what kind of standard the welding that has already been carried out has been done. It looks pretty rough from what I can see and if it is crap then that will all have to come out as well.

To be honest, the wiring would scare me more than the welding, I mean, where do you start with that?

I'd agree with A Dicky, it's certainly doable, but you'd probably end up re-doing the welding. And putting together something that you didn't take apart is long drawn out process.

It isn't the state of the car that is the deciding factor in this. The deciding factors are time, space, cash and an understanding family. So, from what you say of your circumstances, I'd be inclined not to bother. It is not worth it. :(:(:(

Fortunately for myself, wives and children (and thus time) are not a hindrance on my free time, so I can do what I want.

Space and cash, on the other hand....

You'd need another one as benchmark to see how it all goes back together. Oh, there aren't any others.

I cant really add more to what has already been said, but I'm gonna try...

Whilst this might seem like a good idea at the time, it'll most certainly turn into a massive headache and may possibly even take more toll on your health where rebuilding this is concerened. Its not something you need to be honest.

I agree thats its not something that absolutely cannot be done, this car can be put back on the road with plenty of money/time/knowledge/help/tools and loads of patience.

Concentrate on the shite (Particularly that lovely 800 you've got) you've already got. Another CX in a much better condition for possibly the same money may come up one day. Sods law usually says its just after you've bought this shit heap and have no more time/space/money.
