Dare I mention....Top Gear....?

The tests were unfair and designed to show the cars flaws.

As opposed to unfair tests that dont show any design flaws? Its just typical Top Gear "old cars are toss, new cars are super kewl" telly - take it with a large pint of beer - I do. Theres nowt we can do about it as long as people keep tuning in, they will keep churning out more of the same.
I quite agree. Though if they were going to trash that Marina (a shame in my opinion) they could have at least got some more entertainment value out of it- Would have been better spent in a few rounds of banger racing if all they were going to do was set fire to it!

I was watching that Marina and Lada "race", and thought it was quite tame actually. Although I was still cringing as bits of trim became detached etc etc it could have been a lot worse.Part of me hoped, when they cut to the sideways on shot of the Marina on fire, that they'd dressed up another car for the purpose? But then only the Lada made it back to the studio...Mark.

I'm sure they only trashed the Lada cos they appreciated the relative rarity of the other cars. Although I think it's a shame they didn't use the correspoinding models (early Lada, Mosky 408, and so on), it was all fair enough and raised a few smiles. But pity they didn't mention some of the better Commie stuff, such as the Tatras or the Wartburg 311, a beauty if ever there was one. The ZAZ looked a peach though!

Also, many of the sovit cars were borrowed, partly the case due to the difficulty of getting hold of them! I know the the ZAZ was borrowed off keith adams (well there aren't going to be many people in the UK with identical ones!) and some guy of RR had his skoda used (but not seen!)!m0rris

They borrowed one for filming, didn't make the final cut though

The stuff where they just wreck things is tiresome, however on the other hand the 'challenges' are pure comedy gold. The 'being a van driver' and the 'cheap secondhand police cars' ones in particular - I nearly peed myself when Hammond turned over the Bedford Rascal  !

Anyone else see it tonight?Nice mention for the Marina clubs' website there- surprised one of their researchers hasn't come across this place yet!I was slightly annoyed about dropping a piano on another Marina, they could have at least fired it off a ramp into a burning caravan or something else that was a bit more enterataining. Was quite a funny episode all in all though.

marina with leather wasnt one advertised not long ago..i like hamster he like a stress ball, you get annoyed and just want to squeeze the shit out of it  clarksons always been this way even in his early days of writing there was always talk of classic this and that, but he does like the scirocco and being a scirocco fan i respect him ONLY for this...James May... 'Hello' lmao quality he's still gay though :twisted:but did notice a mk1 Golf, Cortina Mk3 (now flat what a waste and a moggie minor...) i mean if you can get X amount of fiesta's and others why not just use them...where they get the tina from i wonder :?

I would presume that the pile of scrap cars is supplied by a local scrap yard, I wouldn't have thought someone would go to the trouble of handpicking the rarest ones....Enjoyed tonights episode, although spent most of the show trying to spot a friend in the audience.

yeah the btcc stuff was ok liked the old racing clips better

Enjoyed it as always, the V8 rocking chair shows promise.......lets face it [and I'll probably get lynched for this] Marinas were one of the only cars that were worse in every respect to the car they were supposed to replace, and for that reason alone, the less on the planet the better. I know they're the epitome of shite, but proper shite needs a streak of lunacy, and where an Allegro had a daft steering wheel, Marinas just had terminal understeer, and chronic boredom.

I see no-one realised what the jaguar piled into lol! I am pretty sure it was princess, the heap of cars was identical to the maestro one - i,e, same one used same day etc, as it was recognisably athe same beige princess!m0rris

They probably have - but as most of our opinions echo other sites (ie, aint it terrible Top Gear are trashing all these lovely old shitters, they should burn in hell type comments), they probably don't give a shit about Autoshite. You can only hope it was one of Raymanboys pianos that was dropped on the Marina.Me, I spent the entire episode ROFLMAO, as for the badged up Wizards sleeve and pork sword, I nearly choked on my pint. Schoolboy humour - oh yes a top bit of escapism in the week if you ask me.

Have any of you seen Top Gear Australis ? a total clone of ours, but much funnier, I have them all on disk if anybody needs a copyDUNC

One of the better episodes, IMO that clip of Jim Clark round Brands (I think it was) in the Lotus Cortina made it worthwhile all on its own. The fun parts were for once hilarious, the piano/Marina bit could have come straight out of Monty Python. :D In any case it looked as if enough of the engine and brakes would have survived to turn yet another Morris Minor into a driveable car, it's just a shame that that nice little holiday home hung on the back of the Jag met such an untimely death :(

I was at Dunsfold today,& in the Top Gear pound,I noticed a severely rear-ended Allegro.I don't remember seeing that happen,so maybe it's one to come?

If it was biege with a VP grille then it was used in the reverse-jump in the first of the series.

I'd be grateful for a copy of that if it's no bother.....shall I PM my address?RG

You can get some TG Oz clips on YouTube.Pretty sure the pile of old tin (inc. the Princess and Mk3 Tina) were used in the reverse Allegro jump. That XJ40 did look tidy for 400 sheets, but was probably knackered in the important areas as they tend to be.

Aye, the Jag looked like prime pub carpark fodder. If it hadn't been blezzed off the ramp, guaranteed win a few months it's be sitting on some gravel with one broken window and moss growing inside & out round the back of the Dog & Duck....
